***OFFICIAL 'The Walking Dead' TV Series Thread*** (5 Viewers)

Wait, how did all of those walkers get up on the roof in S1 (where Merle was handcuffed) if they can't climb? They flooded the stairways.
They can do steps but not ladders/fences (although there was one that climbed a fence in Season 1 --- producers later said that was an error).

I thought this last episode was pretty darn good. Seems the producers/director may have taken note of the desire of the fan base to have the episode less concentrated and to have it about two different sets of people instead of one. Hopefully this continues as the concentrated episodes don't carry my interest as much.

Although its possible that the funeral parlor was a trap, I personally don't find that very plausable. The place seems in the middle of nowhere and if people do show up at the place it is likely that they would be few and far between. Also, training a dog to lead walkers to the house? Not a long shelf life on that idea.
 on the bold part.

The episodes were filmed many months back, so unless they have a time machine. :oldunsure: , I doubt the episodes have changed based on fan feed back.
True. I guess if I was stubborn I could (unsuccessfully) argue re-editing. haha

This season has been pretty crappy overall, but the last episode was much better. I suspect that's largely because they left out Rick and his son. They have completely hosed those two characters.
Agreed all-around.

Sepinwall suggested before the kick-off this half of the season that it was time to kill Rick, and I think that would make some sense.

A brief scene from next week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_e7optvW8uY

This isn't the one shown on Talking Dead.
Can't really tell if that is a walker or a person. Guessing of course they made it look like that on purpose. Who could it be, all alone?
the clothes are a real mess, so nobody in the group of people we know that i can think of. but it is a lot of suspense just to be a zombie.

and i think the idea of the house being a pseudo-trap makes the most sense. If you have seen the preview that was on the Walking Dead, it certainly gave the impression of a person who has lost their marbles. Maybe they kidnap Beth to have a friend for the little girl running around outside to play with?

and for those that are up on the comics, what do you think the tie-ins are here. there are 1 or 2 short story pieces before the story gets to the next bog plot piece, and i am wondering if any of that related to this stuff here. Any thoughts on what terminus might end up being? let me try some random thoughts in spoilers (spoilers will be comic-related, and basically a lot from the storylines from after the prison until next big plot piece):

- What about the priest? i can't remember his name but he plays a bit of a part. i'm guessing that might be the guy walking down the tracks in that clip

- I think the storyline where the guys are going to rape Carl is way too much for the TV show, but what about the cannibals?

- is terminus going to be the gated community? would be weird with all of the advertising they are doing, but they could make it work.
They have so many characters now, I'm not sure if they'll introduce the Priest (Gabriel) They could use him though as a voice of hope. Some have alluded in the thread about the house being a trap and I think there's a chance that the car was the cannibals. Terminus should be Sanctuary but they haven't come across Alexandria (gated community) yet so I'm not sure where they're going with it. They might bypass that whole storyline.
yeah, i agree about so many characters now that introducing more would probably hurt the show. I'm guessing it may be hard to keep up with it being so fragmented for the casual viewer. With only a few episodes left you have to think they end up at this Terminus, so you would have to think most of the 1st half of the next season will be spent mostly there. I'm not sure where they will go with it, my guess is they pick and pull pieces from Alexandria and add in a bunch of new things. The additional pieces have been pretty good up to this point, so i think they can do some good stuff. Alexandria had a lot less zombies, so i do wonder if that will start to become more of the show or not.

My wife suggested that the guy with the ball could be Negin, and i almost threw up. I think no way, the casting of that guy needs to be done with a bigger sized guy, but i worry a little because maybe that is the route they are going. I think it is way too early to introduce another major antagonist, and think they need to give it at least a year, if not a year and a half before they try it with Negin. I am not sure how they will add that without people think they are duplicating the Governor storyline, but they do have plenty of time to figure it out.

The guy playing Eugene I think looks exactly like the comic, so they did great there. I think Negin needs to be cast well and the only other character that i think they really want to want to bring in is Jesus, and he'll need to be cast soon too.

So I wonder what they will do with Morgan and what role he will play going forward. I remember reading that he was a part of the finale last season, but they took out whatever parts he was in. With them heading toward Terminus i wonder what kind of role Morgan may pay going forward, and if we will see him again.

I think a possible storyline could be to have Darrell and his new gang head toward Morgan's town and Darrell and Morgan hook up. That might take Darrell out of the main storyline for a bit, but it seemed they wanted to bring Morgan's character into the sory again, and i wonder if they can find a place that he can make sense.

wasn't the guy with the ball the same guy that had the face to face with Darryl this past episode. I was actually waiting for him to introduce himself as Nagin and was glad when he said a different name. I agree, it's too early for Nagin to be brought in and he does need to be a huge, hulking guy. I wasn't thrilled with the choice for the Gov. Hope they do better with him.

yup, was the same guy

I noticed that the living peeps like to hide on roofs, on tops of trucks, etc. Are zombies physically incapable of climbing, or are they too stupid to know how to climb, on account of being dead and all?
Can't climb, too stupid to know anyone is up there, etc.
I thought they had a pretty great sense of smell.Couldn't they smell sweaty D'Angelo on top of the truck?
Smart enough to use rocks to beat on a window. They seem to get faster at times too.

Too stupid.

It seems an aluminum ladder would be a great resource. With a ladder, you find or fashion all sorts of safe places to rest.

First step in setting up at a house would be ripping out the staircase, and you've got a pretty safe place.
You could build a huge tree house and live there. No walker could ever get you. But you have to come down sometime and once they know you are up there they will mill around at the base of the tree by the hundreds until the end of time.

It points back to lakes and oceans. The last bastion of civilization will be a Navy flotilla. There's no way the Navy would get overrun out at sea. They'd have carriers to launch jets and choppers. Fuel for decades. Science labs to find a cure. Even after all this time, the Navy should still be in operation out there, transmitting radio broadcasts. All survivors should head for the coast with radios to find out what to do. Makes no sense to hunker down on a farm or in a prison.

fresh water and food?

I always thought the island idea would be best. someplace with fresh water ideally (or enough rain to catch), decent climate for growing food and fishing- go in and clear it out of every walker. we've seen that the walkers can exist in water (governor threw a guy into a lake, walker down a well, etc) so worst case scenario is that one washes up every now and then. if the island is in a river or lake (better for fresh water) you have more chance of that happening. in the ocean, less. I designed (in my head) a whole river or lake island community with elevated houses and fencing just to be sure. what a ####### waste of my time :bag:

I am sure Rick will be killed off.

I am very curious which characters do not return for season 5. There is going to be another season right? Or is this it?

I am sure Rick will be killed off.
I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again but I'll be absolutely shocked if Rick is killed. I know some folks here don't like him but he is the main character on the series. I can't see Kirkman icing him at this point.

On pretty much any other show, I'd agree, but not with this one. "Zombie kills" are the main character on this show.

Plus when the show can go 4 episodes where you do nothing, except hide under a bed and jump out a window, it's hard to consider you the main character any more.

I agree to a point, but how many characters being killed off was a surprise? It's usually pretty predictable, especially as of late.

One chance it happens..if Rick wants a pay taise then AMC will kill him off.

Yup. Then Carl will just randomly bump into Rick's brother "Mick" and they'll continue the story as is with a cheaper actor.

If one person is safe, it is Rick. So safe that fan favorites Daryl and Michonne are 100 times more likely to be killed off.

I actually am thinking more and more Rick is a goner. Just a hunch.

I really hope Daryl and Michonne are both alive and well for season 5....as well as Maggie. Those three are clearly the most interesting characters on the show. As well as total zombie killing bad asses.

For me Ricks character has fully run it's course.

Yup or Andrew Lincoln decides he doesn't want to do the show anymore. Things could change but Kirkman insists time and time again Rick is the central character on the show and the story essentially revolves around him. I think that makes him the safest character by far at this point in time.

As far as not giving him much to do it's clear the writers are trying out a new approach in the second half of this season by splitting the group apart and focusing more heavily on them individually or with new pairings. Sometimes it's worked, sometimes it hasn't. But I don't see that as an indication Rick has fallen in their eyes - just that they're trying something new this season and running with it.

Kirkman is basically in charge at this point, regardless of who the showrunner is. And he indicated in an interview he was excited about the spin off because he could tell different stories than the comics. Inferring from that, he's going to follow the comics fairly faithfully for the rest of the run of the show.

As others have said, I'd give Rick being killed a .00001% chance of happening. Basically, no chance. He is, for better or worse, the main character, and although they have deviated from the comics in killing some chars off, Rick is a bit different. And if you are basing it off of the solo story episodes, that's a pretty weak thing to base it on because this is just a story telling device to get them where they want to get them without getting there before next season. Some of the other chars may be killed, in fact, I don't expect everyone to make it to Terminus even though they all seem to be heading that direction now (except Beth and maybe Daryll and his gang), but Rick is more likely than any of the others to make it there.

Date set for Season 5

The Walking Dead season 4 is unfortunately close to the end–there’s three episodes left–and people are wondering about season 5. Who will be in the cast, when does filming begin, and when does the season premiere?

We do know that the episode 1 air date is set for October 2014.

Maggie lying on the street between zombies was just dumb.

More ninja zombies now at the door...everyone can see there's something through the slats...but Daryl just flings the door open. He kills all but maybe 3...why not just finish them off and clear the house? How is that a good trap anyway? "I know...I'll stock the house with food...I'll herd 20 zombies towards the front door and the victim will no doubt open the door...WHAMO...instant young chick in my car."

Someone doesn't open the door...what happens? Just straight up dumb. Bob can lay around and watch a zombie fail at getting past a stick that's been stood up straight as a door to his new found cave...but a well built, solid core door cannot keep zombies at bay? I sit inside and a start belting out, "You keep a knockin' but you can't come in!" Just lame writing to have blond chick separated from Daryl and kidnapped.

Black chick makes no sense to me. Why go to terminus...we're supposed to go in circles looking for Glenn.

Next scene...why go to terminus...Glenn is probably dead. Wait...you just wanted us to make circles and wander aimlessly looking for dead Glenn? Now you want to split up and be by yourself? Just ignorant and insane writing at this point.

Ball bouncer is back...who would've thought that would happen? What next...the mullet having super genius isn't what he seems?

Thankfully though we're moving forward some and not just stuck on one group making endless dumb choices just to move from plot point to plot point.

I don't think the house was a trap. It was mentioned that the car Beth was kidnapped in looked like a hearse, so it's possible she ran into the owners of the house. That's a plausible explanation.

Excellent points.

There are multiple scenarios/decisions in this show that can be questioned in nearly every episode. That is why I think people are getting more and more fed up with this show, but people still watch.

Not really. Just complaining to complain. The sentiment in here was that this week's episode was really good. There isn't a point in there that I agree with at all.

Plenty still watch because they still enjoy the show a lot.

Those of you who still watch and hate it and ##### about it constantly, I have no idea why you're wasting your time every Sunday night.

Agreed. If after seeing Michonne and Rick and Glenn walk through hundreds of walkers you can't handle Maggie "hiding" when there are no walkers even close to her or can't handle Bob on a truck in a completely open stretch of road (i.e. plenty of air movement, hard to smell), then you shouldn't even watch anymore. Oh no, Daryl did something stupid. That is crazy, I mean, he certainly got passed 3rd grade. Seriously, do yourself a favor and turn it off. Call it lazy writing or call it lazy watching. They foreshadowed the hell out of it, Daryl got too comfortable, started thinking of life with Beth and his buddy the dog. Damn, I really did want to watch a show of people sitting in an Ewok village with 100% safe 30 foot zombie killing poles who spend all their time knitting sweaters and playing canasta.

I think this season to date has been the weakest of the four but I still enjoy the show a lot and last week's episode was really good. Three more of that caliber and they'll close out the season on a very high note.

I don't think the house was a trap. It was mentioned that the car Beth was kidnapped in looked like a hearse, so it's possible she ran into the owners of the house. That's a plausible explanation.
If so, I still don't get why she wouldn't be pleading with them to wait for her friend- and why they wouldn't wait... at least until the walkers started getting close to the car.

eta: unless, it's as I mentioned before, that the hearse drivers are new meshugena antagonists sent by the writers to stir the pot.

I watch this show because I have been watching this show since the beginning and I figure those first few seasons were good, you would have to think they would continue the trend and make this season good, hence I continue to watch thinking it has to get better. This weeks episode was probably the best of the season, but is that really saying much? Not to me. Every week this season this show has a couple Why/WTF moments that I'm thinking to myself why they did this or that or that are so far fetched.

Nothing better to do I guess

It would be like me going back and watching season 2 of the following after I hated how bad season one became, just so I could go into the thread to post how horrible a show it is..

I'll use Dexter as an analogy. I loved that show in its first four seasons. I thought the quality declined significantly after that. I still watched because I thought Michael C. Hall was great but the show itself clearly wasn't as good in my eyes and I began to adjust my expectations accordingly. It never reached the point where I thought the show was an epic fail. If it did I would've stopped watching. I just don't see the point of wasting an hour of my life watching something I know I'm gonna hate.

If I knew there was going to be a 9th season of Dexter, I don't think I would have made it through season 8. I only hung on to see how it would end.

i just love anything zombie related. I even have a calf tattoo of several zombies. So this show is right up my ally...good or bad...sometimes this show is a mix of quality and campy which i can live with. One great scene an episode will save the whole episode in my opinion. Sometimes just one great scene during a season will save the season for me(Sophia in the barn for example). I loved the cemetery / funeral parlor angle...just fits the whole zombie genre perfectly, even if it got strange at the end.Visually it does it for me.I loved that brief scene at the beginning when it showed the moon on the skyline and the dark road below just before Darryl and Beth hid in the trunk...that scene was creepy and had horror all over it. I`ll watch this show until its no longer airing and any zombie shows / movies from here on out because its what i love.

I have a hard time not watching shows after I enjoyed the first few seasons because I want to see them through to their conclusions. OCD, I guess. I do, however, have no problem acknowledging a show has entered "Completely Ridiculous Stage" and can adjust my experience accordingly. If I'm bored even then, I'll give up.

My son and I enjoy zombies and horror. We watch this show with more of a Mystery Science Theater slant...sitting on the couch laughing at dumb stuff and imagining the writers' meetings that came up with some of these scenarios.
