To this point at least Carol does seem to be taking the needs of the many into account with her actions whereas Shane was all about himself and what he viewed as important to himself (i.e. Lori and Carl). I think Shane's greatest flaw was he couldn't see beyond his own self-interests. Carol, to this point at least, doesn't seem to have that problem. If anything she's willing to go the extra mile if it means protecting the group she belongs with. I think her willigness to look beyond her own interests make her more like Rick than Shane. She's just more willing to get her hands dirty than Rick has often been.

Rick never would shot Lizzie.. we'd have 3 episodes of him brooding, hemming and hawing, and calling to KKAAAAAAARRRLLL... Carol is the leader now..
And he would be growing Veggies and would use the bodies as fertilizer
This is the same Rick that single-handedly took out that other group at the bar and took out Sophia when everyone else was in shock. He gets his hands dirty, but it's a last resort. Carol uses it as a first resort.
The same Rick that even though he killed that violent gang, he wanted to take Randall and drive him to the middle of nowhere and leave him? This man was part of said violent group that was known for their brutality. Randall gets impaled on a fence and Rick saves him out of kindness and decency. Really? After this group and this Randall tried to kill you, you save him? And then you bring him back to the farm! Lets take him out to the middle of nowhere, after he is healed, and there is a slight chance he might lead the others from his group and track us down at this farm.

The same Rick who knowing that Merle helped Governor almost rape Maggie, tossed a zombie in the room with a tied to a chair Glenn, and tracked Michonne in the woods to kill her, allowed him to come back and live in the prison. What? He didn't want to make Darryl angry? But you Carol, you killed two people infected with the walker virus and that ain't cool and I can't have you coming back with me to the prison.

He picked a farm to live in season two. A farm during a zombie apocalypse? This was all after Carl recovered from being shot and Sophia came out of the barn as a walker. What? He fell in love with the whole Green Acres thing?

He refused to teach Carl gun training early on. "Sorry Carl but I want you to keep this whole childhood innocence thing because you are still a child. Never mind the fact that the dead are reanimating and trying to eat us. Now, go play with a ball or something" #### hits the fan and you don't think it is important for:

1) Teach your kid how to survive?

2) Teach your kid that he just grew up quicker than you would like but he has to learn to pull his weight and that involves defending the camp, farm, mom, etc...

This indirectly leads to Dale's death but that wasn't a huge loss.

It isn't that he get his hands dirty as a last resort. Rick is a #####.

Wow, he killed Shane. A man that banged his slutty wife and tried to kill him, but Rick still had to be saved by his kid.

He was getting smacked around by The Governor

He brings ALL the surviving members of Woodbury into the prison not realizing there might be some who still are loyal to The Governor. Not saying to do a background check but a few questions to some might reveal whom might pose some problems. Why earlier did you leave a hitchhiker on the side of the road?

I know they said they were from Philadelphia... but I didn't think that their depravity was confirmed in the show.

I was ready for Shane to die. I like Carol.
I still think she tops the list of the main cast characters to die this season.
I thought there was a small chance Tyreese might just pick up that gun and pop Carol making this the hugest OMG episode since they offed Lori and T-Dog in the same episode. Would have made for an even awesomer episode, but I hope Carol sticks around for the long haul.
I like how she's evolved as a character but I also wonder where she can go from here. She can't just be the person who kills others to keep the group safe. That'll get old quickly.

Shane wasn't just about being ruthless for his own self interests, he was just willing to go to that level for his own self interests in addition to doing it to help the group, whereas Carol seems to be only about the group.

Shane killing Otis and trying to kill Rick was ruthless for Lori and Carl, IE his own self interests. Shane killing the barn walkers and wanting to kill Randall was being ruthless for the group.
I think Shane was just ruthless.

I thought sacrificing Otis was a pretty shrewd in the moment type of move.

The group needs someone to lead when Rick is acting like a #####. I'd love to see her bang heads with Rick.

I still remember the night T-Dog died. This show just hasn't been the same since, frankly.

They've had to fill lots of silence in since that time.

What a difference it makes to have an episode centered around a kid when the kid can actually act. Note to the producers: Let's not have Carl do any more heavy lifting, K?
It's probably not saying much but Lizzie was one of the best actors on the show. Real glad they didn't bull#### that storyline. I'm shocked they did it, but she had to die. Nice work by that kid, some day we'll be watching a movie and say oh yeah she was the psycho kid in TWD.

And Tyrese is a great baby daddy.

Great episode.

They did that storyline with Shane. I don't see the point in repeating it.

Yeah, I thought Carol walking out of that cabin on her own with the others dead would have been a great ending.

Got to give it to Gimple, he wrote a hell of an episode. This and Pretty Much Dead Already (Sophia in the barn) are probably the two best written episodes of the series.

Bob's gonna be like....

Where's lizzie at....Where's the girl Carol?

Where's lizzie...huh? Where the eff lizzie at huh???

Where's lizzie carol?? Huh?? That's all I wanna know...Where's Lizzie? ??

Who would win in a fight between Carl Grimes and Carl Gallagher?

I can't decide what's better preparation.....growing up in a zombie apocalypse or growing up dirt poor.

This was a decent episode by this season's standards, but it's a far cry from Pretty Much Dead Already.

Sophia coming out of that barn was about as good a moment as you can get from any TV show.

Last night was somewhere between "a stretch, but I'll buy it" and "a cheap trick just for shock value".

Any other episode Carol revealing that she killed Karen and David would have been the big moment but it almost came and went without much notice. I think Tyreese was/is just numb and enough time has passed since it happened that he has come to grips with it. I think his reaction was a bit under-played though.

I think the whole transformation of Carol is one of the best story lines by far. I wanted to slap her myself in the early shows for being so weak. I almost couldn't stand her. Has anyone else come close to such a change in either direction?

I feel dirty looking so deep into this but Carol telling Tyreese about killing the other two was really stupid. If it was just Carol and Tyreese it would be a different story. But they have to look after that stupid baby. If Ty flips out and kills her or himself (or does both) the odds that Judith survives are diminished significantly. Just a dumb move on her part.

Under played, no. I think the point was he was living in the pre zombie world where there are things you don't do because Tyreese is a good guy, wouldn't attack the prison, saved the baby, tried to save his pals even when they went with the gov. Which is why Tyreese was so mad about the "wrong" of murdering Karen and the red shirt.

He knew when he essentially sentenced Lizzie to death that this crazy mixed up world makes good people do bad things.

He could hardly condemn Carol for murdering Karen to save everyone after he just condoned murdering a child and then sending Carol out to do the dirty work.

He was forgiving himself by vindicating Carol.

You think finding out that someone you loved had killed someone else you loved would pass so quickly? Even in the zombie apocalypse I think he flips out a bit more, not saying he wouldn't come to the same conclusion however.

Timing was everything with Carol's reveal. If she would have told him prior to finding Lizzy (like it appeared she was about to), I think Tyrese's response would have been a lot different.

I think it was more than a little manipulative on Carol's part to tell Tyreese the truth when she did. If she tells him at the prison, they pass judgement and expel her. Maybe someone kills her. But they establish in this episode that they absolutely need each other. Tyreese and Judith can't make it on their own. Carol can't make it on her own. They must stay together. Once that is made clear, only then she tells him the truth. That maximized Carol's odds of getting Tyreese to forgive her.

Nothing makes for good TV like brutally murdering a little girl.
Judith is next.
They must have some pretty big plans for Judith to not have killed her off by now. I don't know what it is, but I doubt she will be killed off without greatly impacting Rick and Carl.

Sophia coming out of the barn was about the most telegraphed 'twist' ever.

Seemed to me more like Carol would have welcomed death at that point. She was facing the loss of two more 'daughters', one by her own hand. Tyreese exacting revenge would have been merciful.

I don't think that was the intent, that Carol was trying to be manipulative. She had just shot her surrogate daughter in the back of the head, I think the writers were just saying she was done and she wanted Tyreese to kill her.

I agree with Riversco here.

I don't think she wanted to die. I think it weighed on her, and she knew this was the best time to tell him if she was ever going to.

It wasn't the "twist" that made that scene so powerful.

Was it the BS that Shane couldn't shoot a child walker?
