The armor looks silly now since the show has transitioned away from the dead being the primary threat.

Liked last night's episode.  Sue me
The people inside the kingdom view the walkers as their only threat though.

Ok, so let's say that Gabe knew about the boat.  How would Rick know that Gabe knew about the boat, even after seeing the word boat.

Also, how would Gabe know that writing the word "Boat" at the back of his journal would even be seen, and even if it was seen, how would he know that they would know that he knew about the boat, and that he was going there?

Bottles the mind

but doesn't answer how he knows about the boat. or about that group of edm goth losers (if he's with that group that has conveniently convened to circle up on rick and pals)
When I saw the ominous note in the goods they took from the boat (can't recall the wording) my thought was it was either booby trapped or had a tracking device. It is plausible there was a tracker for them to know the movement of the stash, and sent someone to check it out. Possibly they saw the Neegan interaction, or made contact with Gabriel that was not shown (yet).

Shane and Dale are the leaders. They may be lovers too but nobody is 100% sure because Andrea keeps trying to bang Shane
Their obvious attraction aside they are clearly not a committed monogamous pair. That is evidenced by Dale's constant cultivation of both Glenn and Andrea.  he is going for some intergenerational, interracial MMF ménage.  Leave it to Dale to #### up something as good as a ménage a trios.

Probably tried to talk everyone through it and Glenn and Andrea just gave up and f'd each other instead.

Did they ever explain why negan let's the kingdom keep all their weapons?
Beginning of this season, Negan insinuated at Alexandria, when he was taking Rick's weapons, that he didn't trust them because they attacked the outpost and killed his group. Therefore he is taking their weapons until they can be trusted or earn his trust.

Reading between the lines, The Kingdom doesn't pose a threat to Negan since they didn't attack him, that we know of.

Jack Bauer did too and Jack Bauer was GOAT.

That's how things are done. It's fiction.
If its used to introduce Elisha Cuttbert as she runs from peril to peril in a vest and no bra that's all well and good, but when some southern hick deputy who has lead his group from disaster to disaster continues to show no learning curve and doesn't ever seem to get the women in his group out in the rain in t-shirts only, well that is where I draw the line.

No fights with the Saviors yet. That's why Zeke doesn't want to start one now. They've had peace with their arrangement. Also, he clearly feels guilt about his last big mission that ended up costing a lot of lives and limbs.

I agree this is Rick's biggest flaw as leader.

I think Gabe only knew about the boat because the boots guy told him he saw Rick and Aaron there and followed them back to Alexandria.  He approached Gabe while he was on watch (after all, Gabe does wear the priest collar) to see if the group was hostile or not.  When Gabe told him what was going on, he offered to bring Gabe back to his camp/group (if Gabe would give them supplies).

Gabe wasn't completely sure about the new group, so he left Rick the clue ("boat") in the Bible that he left there on the pantry floor, on purpose for Rick to find.  Rick wondered how Gabe knew about the boat, but that clue was a good enough "lead" for them to think Gabe took the pantry stuff back there or near there... maybe under duress, they didn't know.  So their only clue was the boat, so they decided to go back there.

From there they followed the foot prints to the open parking lot where the group (and Gabe, imo) were there waiting for them.  That's why we see Rick smiling, imo.

I will have to watch again obviously, but I am a bit confused by the walker horde.  Didn't they say they put the cars there to block the horde to keep it on the freeway, and didn't Rick even say they might possibly want them there at a later date?

So then they put the cars back, but still had to kill a ton of walker, then drove away.  Which way did they go after that?  Back the way they came or did they keep  moving forward.

Going off recollection here..

They came up the ramp behind the Cars at which time they thought the cars were put there to slow down anyone trying to get to the Saviors hideout ( Jesus points out the Saviors place while on the Ramp).
Then as they are moving the cars, Michonne sees the "Trap" so they go to investigate.. They figure out the Cars were on the ramp to "direct" the horde towards the Explosive trap.
So they decide to take the explosives, but in the process see the Horde coming, The group gets split up trying to get the cars back in place..
After the slice & dice by Rick and Michonne of most of the Horde, Rick and Michonne get back in the car and head forward down the Highway, watching behind them as the rest of the horde walks into what is left of the explosives.

That's what I recall.. Then again I missed Boots sitting up in the car with Gabriel so..

I also got the impression the explosives were put there by Negan to prevent any humans from getting closer to the compound. I didn't think it was done solely to protect themselves from walkers.

For folks who think of themselves as bad asses they certainly walk right into traps.

side note/observation... post cheese slicer wire thing: diamond-teeth killer zombies appear to be a thing of the past. you know- when the random zombie, let alone mass of them surrounding a character, posed a threat. rick and michone were surrounding by grabbing zombies that seem to have forgotten their original M.O.- bite instantly through flesh, sinew bone.

I think it is part of the "redirect" the saviors had talked about several episodes ago.

I did not get the impression they wanted to kill the walkers with the redirect.

But Morgan's thoughts are best... Find a way to kidnap Negan, not outright kill him, and see how the Saviors react before starting the war...
I disagree with this part. If something happens to Negan someone like Simon, probably Simon, will take over and be just as bad or worse. Did you see how that guy was acting when they were back at Alexandria looking for Daryl? Guy is a total ########.

I think you're correct regarding the redirection towards the explosives.  The herd walked on the explosives that Rosita didn't trust to take along because it didn't look right.

No doubt but I also thought Morgan's suggestion had some merit. The group doesn't know how the Saviors will respond if Negan is removed. Maybe they buckle? Maybe they grow stronger to get him back? Or maybe someone like Simon steps in and is just as bad or worse like you said.

I don't agree with Morgan's suggestion. I think too much has happened for Rick to think anything other than removing Negan is the answer. But I don't think it was a terrible idea.

 that is the question.. we have no idea how the Saviors would react to Negan disappearing and/or get killed.. If he is still alive, then they might hold back on attacking the Groups, but if he is dead, then yea Simon probably rally's the Saviors behind him.

Good question is how many of the Saviors are like Fat Joey and how many truly believe in Negan? Fat Joey was gonna let Daryl escape without a second thought which showed he wasn't truly behind Negan. That was just the best way he had to survive. Not a reach to think there are more like him.

I just re-watched the episode during my work out and my initial thoughts were correct.. They come up the On ramp, while moving the cars Michonne see's the trap.. while they are looking over the trap Carl ( or Coral depending on your punctuation ;) ) mentions that while hiding in the truck he overheard people talking about a "herd Trap".
After the Slice & Dice, they continue on the way they had been heading before they saw the trap.

Also, Re-watched closely the beginning when they went back and showed the clip at the end of the Mid-season break..
Boots watched Gab, and then walks towards Alexandria.. When this episode starts, Gab is up on the lookout now, keeps looking down, looks at his bible and shakes his head "yes" at which time he starts loading the car.

I am assuming that between the end of Mid-season and the start of this episode Gab talks with Boots and comes to the conclusion that they need the help and need to help others.

And yea, sure enough, as he is driving away you do see a head pop up in the Passengers seat ( back seat was full of supplies).

So father Gabriel was getting some road head?

Right on. We don't know how they would react if something were to happen to Negan. They all could turn into a bunch of little girls for all we know. If I were Rick I would take the hope for the best but prepare for the worst attitude.

I've been reflecting on how incredibly stupid the zombie hoard clotheslining scene was. Terribly flawed logic behind the whole thing

given the time spent on the character in the first part of the season, I still think Dwight will be pivotal in overcoming Negan.

Seems likely. They've played up the Dwight/Negan/Ex-wife thing several times so it stands to reason he could be someone who defects.

Or dies trying. I'm totally OK with that. Not a big fan of that character.

This was when the show was good
