Because guns run out of ammo and jam? If you get good with a crossbow you essentially have unlimited ammo.
Was Dwight leaving the compound to start out on his own, never to return?  I may have missed that part.  The arrows can be reused, of course, if you are able to retrieve them.  In a crowd you may not be able to call timeout to go and get your arrows.

I get the feeling Dwight dosent want to be a savior anymore. I can see him team up with Rick and company soon. He will probably help Rosita escape next episode.

Darryl never had a problem retrieving his arrows, plus arrows are easier to make than a bullet.

I see Dwight on the fence struggling with regards to allegiance to Negan, but it seems if he is, indeed, defecting to the other side, he'd leave packed to the hilt with weapons (which he may be in that last scene, actually).  All we see is the silhouette of a person with a crossbow.

that is the name of next week's episode, so I think Dwight is defecting

"I'm so sorry Maggie.  I feel so bad.  I lost my cool and punched Negan and it got Glenn killed.  It's my fault Glenn's dead because I just had to do something stupid.  Oh look, over there, a savior.  Grrrrr that guy deserves a beating.  Hold my beer Maggie, I'm going to go beat the #### out of him even though it will probably get you (and others) killed."

Well, he's smarter than Merl

He was held captive, tortured and starved by the group who now had one of their own isolated in a cellar 5 feet from him.  The same group that had killed people he cared about, including the husband of the woman he just apologized to for feeling "responsible" for his death.

I'm sure you'd be totally in charge of your emotions too.

Dwight has Daryl's crossbow. My first guess was Daryl but now I'm wondering if it was Dwight.
Didn't Richard give Daryl a crossbow at the Kingdom 2-3 episodes ago?  I assumed it was Daryl that Rosita saw, because "guy with a crossbow" automatically means Daryl to 95% of TWD viewers.  Yes, if it was Daryl, that means he made it there pretty fast, but keep in mind that when Sasha and Rosita were in the warehouse hoping to snipe out the window, it was daylight, and when they got to the fence and Sasha entered it was dark.  Enough time could have elapsed that would allow Daryl to get there...

Would be an interesting twist if they open with that scene and we find out it's Dwight next week though.

It was just comical that he was literally doing exactly the same thing he was just crying about having done in the same freaking scene.  A week after complaining about Morgan doing something that he had just done himself two scenes prior, no less.

He is the worst.  I don't know why people still like that guy.  He hasn't been a good character in like 4 seasons.  Good thing we're getting old Carol back.

Yes, it was Dwight that Rosita saw.  Seems pretty obvious.
I think it is obviously Darryl.  The crossbow is clearly visible.

The show takes liberties with timeline all the time.  It could have been hours after Darryl found out they were headed there.

More plausible than Dwight finding the exact same cross bow and dressing up as a ninja on his own compound.

Edit:  unless Daryl doesn't have his crossbow.  Then it is Dwight!

I thought it was an attempt to make it look like Daryl but it won't be. Another awesome walking dead cliffhanger!

Dwight has Daryl's crossbow.  And his motorcycle, and his winged vest/jacket thing.  Daryl has a crossbow that Richard gave him from the Kingdom.  If I remember correctly, when he left the Kingdom to go to the Hilltop he took it with him.

I believe that is correct.

How is it possible that people who are watching this show don't all have this down by now?  Just because Daryl has a replacement crossbow now and a replacement motorcycle (stolen from Saviors when he escaped, Dwight was out with Daryl's chasing down his escaped ex-wife) doesn't mean everyone with a crossbow will be Daryl.  The producers love pre episode misdirection.  You rubes are eating it up.

If it was supposed to be Daryl, wouldn't they (The Walking Dead people) have just shown Daryl and not had him as a shadowy figure?

Pretty easy to figure that it's Dwight.
The writers are catering to the "normal" TWD viewer.  Someone that tunes in every week, watches it for pure entertainment only and doesn't critique it like this thread does.  To those viewers (the masses), a shadowy figure with a crossbow = Daryl.  There's 7 seasons of TWD history and symbolism that has taught the masses that Revolver = Rick, Sword = Michonne, Pocketwatch = Glenn, Crossbow = Daryl, Cowboy Hat = Carl, etc. Theres a reason they use those very items in the opening credits of the show.  I 100% believe that the writers want the viewers to think "Daryl" when they see the shadowy figure that Rosita saw.

Now, they could absolutely flip it and show it to be Dwight next episode.  But showing a shadow of a man with a crossbow IMO means the writers want you to think it's Daryl at this point. And maybe it's Daryl after all.  But it could be Dwight too. But unless the writers are absolutely 100% clueless bumbling idiots (and while I certainly complain about them, they are professional TV writers after all), they should know better than to show a man with a crossbow and expect people to think of Dwight, after engraining it for 7 seasons that Crossbow = Daryl.

You are giving them too much credit

Or too little.. The job of the writers/producers is to make people talk/think about what happened and what is going to happen.

And based on the posts in the thread they have succeeded ;)
Talking , yes.  Most of it is not because it's been good though.

 In this case I think it was "good".. Is it Daryl there to help Rosita and Sasha take out Negan, or is it Dwight looking for a way to get back at Negan for his wife and his face?

I personally believe Dwight has been looking for a way "out", saw what happened with Sasha and Rosita attempting to break out Eugene and is going to try and use it as his way into Rick's group and ultimately get his revenge on Negan.

Everyone saying Dwight will totally agree the writers want everyone to think it's Daryl.

Just because someone wants you to think one way doesn't mean they won't be doing the exact opposite.

It is entirely possible Daryl caught up the girls, they had to scavenge for a car. We are all guessing here.

The last we saw of Dwight him and Eugene were exchanging I am Negans. My guess is that the two of them are hatching a plan that involves Eugene ordering Negan's troops to Custer's Last Stand.

Re: this Daryl-Dwight argument....

A buddy at work told me another possibility I hadn't considered... what if it was that stalker watching the Preacher from the trash people? Would make sense since they've been scoping people out and now have knowledge of the saviours. Misdirection is what the writers like...

that group of women they took all the guns from are going to get slaughtered arent they?
seems like a lot better deal to trust Neegan then Tara, one-eyed Carl, and Rick at this point. Tara stabbed those girls in the back like it was nothing.

ETA: Darryl still is an uncontrollable hot-head and they told the Dwight storyline horrendously

So much of this negan battle preamble is just so obvious that's it's hard to even enjoy it play out. Yeah, the episode moved along better I guess, but Feel like I'm just waiting around for the battle.

Is mullet the "little birdy"? Or is there another mole, like mayor?

Yeah it's playing out as expected but even Game of thrones was fairly obvious last year. Doesn't always mean it's bad. That being said there have been some surprises like Eugene defecting and Sasha being captured. I think the little birdie was mullet.

At the time Mullet was "captured", in his mind, Rick was still Negan's " itch" and is why Mullet feels safer with Negan.

My first guess on who the little birdy was is Gregory.. But he's had times to give up Maggie and even Daryl and didn't. I think he is so wish-washy that even trying to report on deserters is to scary for him. So not really sure on who the Birdie is

I agree with others that this was a pretty good episode. My feelings were mixed when the group was "Attacking" Oceanside... Understood the why, but felt bad for Oceanside.

But the way they handled the "invasion" without killing was very good and, well, "Negan Like"

The scenes with Negan and Sasha were good.  Tara is terrible (Tarable).  Her and Rosita need to end up on Negan's fence.  Compared to recent episodes, this one was much better.

As for the "little birdie", I doubt it's Eugene.  An interesting pick would be Jadis.  She told Rick "deal ends soon."  Maybe she decided to be a crappy allie and bail on Rick.  But I don't think it's her either.  My guess is Gregory.  The chunk of air time he had in this episode showed us that he is more like Eugene than anyone.

He thought about killing Maggie when her back was turned but couldn't stomach it.  He's never killed a walker.  He tried but needed Maggie to save him or he would have been eaten.  They took his doctor, which was one of the better perks of Hilltop.  If people get sick, he won't know what to do now.  And then they will lose trust in him as a leader.  It already showed last night when his people heard Maggie say Gregory had never killed a walker.  They said "that ain't what he told us."  He's losing his community.  He knows Maggie will take over his role.

He's struggling on what to do and remembers Simon's words about coming by anytime if he wants to talk.  He heard Simon tell the doctor about how the Saviors have it made.  They even have fresh home made ice cream.  Simon didn't have to convince the doctor to make a choice to come.  He didn't have a choice.  The comments were for Gregory.  Then they show Gregory in thought with his Tequila bottle (another Simon influence).  He pulls out a map of Virginia and tells his boy that he needs him to drive him somewhere.

Gregory is like Eugene and wants to survive.  Eugene's speech to Sasha through the door was a compelling recruiting testimony about how life with Negan can be much better.  Sasha didn't hear it.  But Gregory did... through his reasoning about how life for him at Hilltop is changing for the worse since Maggie and her friends showed up.  In his mind, Simon gave him an out.

He went to Simon's outpost and told him about Rick's plan with Alexandria and Hilltop.  He's looking for sanctuary in Negan's organization and hopes for a new job somewhere therein.   He won't be mayor, but at least he'll be alive.  That's my guess, at least.

You do know that they meant to have her killed and not let her go, right?  The only one that she stabbed in the back was the girl who saved her from it.

:goodposting:

Gregory reluctantly agreed to trade half of his food to Rick's group in a now failed attempt to take out the Saviors. You so sure Gregory will want to risk all of Hilltop and go all in with them, a second time?

Gregory is the biggest ##### left alive on earth other than cry baby Carl.

Jayrok is dead-on with Gregory being the birdie IMO.  He's becoming Eugene 2.0.  Wants to be somewhere where he's safe and doesn't have to worry about fighting or killing.  But he wants to be a boss of some kind, be in charge of people, like he is now.  He ought to know by now that to climb Negan's ranks though, you have to put in your dues.  I doubt Negan would take him in and automatically promote him to some kind of boss without having a trial period where you do the dirty work and prove your loyalty.  BUT, tipping off Negan to an inevitable uprising might just be the worthy enough move to get him the cushy position at the Sanctuary where he doesnt have to get his hands dirty.

I find myself thinking about how Gregory would tip him off without it backfiring on him.  Does he tell Negan that it's the Hilltop wanting to fight?  Well then how in the hell does the leader of the Hilltop not have control of his own people?  Does he tell him Alexandria is going to revolt?  As far as Negan and crew know, Alexandria and Hilltop don't know each other.  How would Gregory know what Alexandria is going to do?

Why does Negan always look like he's about to fall backwards? Does he have vertigo? Lordosis?
