Anyone else still holding own to hope that we learn Gruden is canned?
If you listen to the recent comments by Gruden to the press, he is talking like he knows he will be back. He has been talking like that for the past two or three weeks.

At this point, the only way I can see gruden getting fired is if he truly wants rg3 gone while Snyder would still want griffin here. In that case, it would maybe lead to a stare down gruden couldn't win.

Purely speculation on the positions I posed by both of course.

He wouldn't win by keeping his job. He would win by getting $16 million for doing nothing.

Which is why you should NEVER give a rookie HC a fully guaranteed 5yr contract.

Until they say he's back, yes, that's my hope.

The radio announcers today have been a pretty constant stream of "this team needs to let Griffin go". :lmao:

Just shows how much they've abandoned reporting on the team and fed into Gruden's microscopic criticisms of Griffin, as though that's the main problem on the team.

Gruden just gave a presser and said he'd keep Haslett, that Griffin needs to improved (and went into some detail, again), and when asked about firings, overall team bad performance, etc. only answered that he'd go back and look at all the films, make careful decisions, and they'd stick to what they've been doing. He's learned nothing this year.

Doc Walker is going ape #### today calling out Bruce Allen and the coaching staff. It's pretty bad when the local guy making the most sense is Doc, but hey, here we are.

I guess I missed the part where Griffin gave up the 3rd most points in the league this season. Or there part where Griffin was blowing coverage assignments. Or when Griffin was missing tackles. Or when Griffin was getting blown off the LOS. Or when Griffin was dropping passes that hit him in the hands (cough cough Andre Roberts).

No Griffin didn't play all that great this season. There's a lot of stuff he needs to improve on in the offseason. But he's far from the problem here. It woud be different if any of the other 2 QBs really out played the other, but none of them did. They all had their moments where they looked good and all had some pretty ugly ones too. For anyone to think that changing the QB here is going to do anything, they're nuts IMO. Fix the OL. Fix the secondary. Add some DL and LB depth. Get Roberts out of here since he can't catch and adds nothing on returns. Get a new DC and defensive coaching staff. Those things will go a long way making this team better. We saw what other QBs looked like this year when they have subpar OL play (Brees and Ryan).

Dhock, yes gruden would make out by getting paid on the contract, but in the camp that would like to see gruden go and rg3 get another shot. I dont think rg3 will get that chance with gruden here. So selfishly, id get what I want if Gruden and Snyder didn't see eye to eye on rg3.

Jay Gruden says major decisions will be made as a group, including Allen and Snyder. Need one decision maker. Group decisions are a mess
Gruden said he'd recommend bringing Haslett back. When asked, he declined to say he'd recommend bringing Griffin back.

What about the part where the third year QB still needed to be coached on the pocket and throwing the ball away. Maybe by year four he can learn how to slide.

I'm far from a Griffin detractor and find myself defending him regularly at work and among friends. I still think he deserves a shot with a good offensive line, but he is way too inconsistent in both his decision-making and execution.

My position on Griffin: He has played terribly this season. Gruden was brought in to develop the young QBs. Griffin has clearly regressed. Cousins has not developed either. A lot of that has to go on Gruden.

I always thought have coaching instability and poor coaching is a QB killer. Griffin's feud with Mike Shanahan and his difficulties working with Gruden will probably kill his career. I don't see him becoming a star QB if he fails with two different head coaches. Fair or not, he would have lost 4 years of development in a NFL career that does not last that long for most. The ship has probably sailed on Griffin, but part of me can't believe the incredible QB I saw in 2012 has become such a bad QB in 2014.

To a lesser degree, Gruden's career is tied to Griffin, McCoy, and Cousins. If none of these QBs develop, Gruden's credentials as a QB guru will take a huge hit.

I hate our coach so much. If he brings back Haslett how many of you guys will be watching the games next year? I honestly may not? Sunday was the first time I didn't watch every snap of a Redskins game in...well, in decades. Getting harder and harder to justify wasting the time to see the same old crappy team. What did we do to deserve this hell? Did Dexter Manley spit in everyone's face and now we're getting it back in spades? I wanted to believe him, he just sneezed. That's all. ;)

Listening to Ravens fans complain about how they got into the playoffs made me sick today. Bunch of unappreciative, spoiled dooshes. Such a fragile fan base that could not endure a fraction of what we are going through.

If Haslett comes back, I don't believe the team is really trying to win. Would love to see Gruden gone too. Why did they give him such a lucrative, guaranteed contract when he's not yet proven? Just a terrible team from top to bottom.

I don't mind them waiting right now. If they're waiting because they want the new GM to make some decisions. Or maybe that's just what I'm telling myself.

Washington Redskins Coach Jay Gruden has two meetings set up with his bosses this week, and then he will come to a conclusion regarding the future of his assistant coaches and other key areas of the franchise.

Gruden will meet with General Manager Bruce Allen on Tuesday. Then on Sunday, the two will sit down with owner Daniel Snyder to assess the damage of this 4-12 season and discuss the direction of the franchise. After meeting with Snyder and Allen, Gruden said he and his assistants would report to Redskins Park on Monday and begin the player-evaluation process.
“There’s a million things swirling in your brain right now,” he said. “That’s why it’s important to take a deep breath, take a few days off, let everything sink in, make the notes you need to make. And that way when you talk to the owner and the general manager and the rest of the staff, then you move forward with some of your thoughts and your beliefs and make sure that some of the key points are addressed, some of the key issues are addressed as quickly as possible.”
Gruden said a conclusion on Haslett, like every other aspect of the team, would be reached collectively.

“Every decision we make, it’s not going to be Dan’s, it’s not going to be Bruce’s, it’s not going to be my decision,” Gruden said. “It’s going to be something that we’re going to live with and do together, and I’m going to live with and be on board with whatever decisions we decide to make.”
Wow. After one 4-12 season Gruden talks like he's an equal decision-maker with Allen and Snyder.

Cousins said in a conversation with reporters Monday morning that it would be tough to return without a chance to compete. But he stopped short of demanding a trade. It’s only when a tweet went viral suggesting Cousins wanted to be traded if Robert Griffin III returned as a starter did Cousins feel the need to clarify his comments.
“Perception is different than what reality is,” Cousins said. “I want to come out and say I have loved Washington. I’m happy here. If I’m the backup for my fourth year in Washington, then so be it.”

If Haslett stays, I am DONE. To me it will be a sad end of a love relationship that I cannot endure any longer. The reasoning is simple, means this organization is not about winning and holding those responsible accountable. Plain and simple, not trying to sugar coat it or over sell it...just the bare bones heart and soul of the matter and unfortunately the breaking point. Not meant to be a ultimatum, but probably comes across that way.

I think Gruden is afraid to fire Haslett. Doesn't want to anger his friend and is going to put it on Bruce/Dan to fire him. Gruden is gutless.

If he had total decision-making authority, I think Gruden would keep Haslett. I also think he'd run things next year exactly like he ran them this year.

Several things:

1. If you are going to play and coach at the highest level, you have to be ready for the highest level of scrutiny and smarminess from the media. Man up.

2. That said, the Washington, DC media really does love to write about negative things and tries to gin up controversy and trap players saying controversial things. Many times they are TMZ with a "legitimate cover." While I think Jay needs to stop crying about it, many in the media truly annoy me.

3. The only way to shut the media up is to WIN. Try WINNING, Jay. You will be surprised if you win, the stories will magically become more positive!

If you notice, Gruden is one of the decision makers on items the head coach is frequently the only decision maker. Certainly the composition of his coaching staff and usually who starts at QB.

There has been a look/feel all year that Gruden is desperately trying to show everyone that his offense is great and he is awesome. I agree that next year will most likely be a lot like this year with Gruden trying to show everyone his offense is great.

I also think the defense is bound to stink, whether Haslett stays or goes. Part of me thinks they will flounder for one more year and then another house cleaning that will include all the coaches and may include Bruce Allen.

If there ways more positives, it would be much harder for the media to focus on the negative. The Redskins are making way too easy to focus on the negative.

On the lighter side of things, John Keim is absolutely rippping his son today for not being "elite" at vacuuming, and the other media guys are joining in. It's hilarious.

I told my son he's not the elite vacuumer I signed him to be.

I can tell you this much after visitors noticed dirt in our house: There will be changes in how we clean.

Free agents, and guesses as to whether they'll be signed or not.

http://espn.go.com/blog/washington-redskins/post/_/id/14361/redskins-face-free-agent-decisions?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed

I look at that list, and I wonder how many of them other teams would keep.
There's not many on that list I'd say are high priorty guys to re-sign. I'm sure McCoy will be back, maybe Paul, maybe one of Jenkins or Neild just for depth and that's really about it for the UFA. I don't see how Orakpo comes back unless it's a bargain for the team. Don't see the point of Clark or Merriweather coming back.

Michael Phillips

The Redskins schedule for 2015 is complete. The team will play road games at the New York Jets, New England, Chicago, Carolina, Atlanta and the three divisional opponents, and home games against New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Buffalo, Miami, St. Louis and the three divisional opponents.
Redskins general manager Bruce Allen, in May: “We feel there are no gaping holes on the roster.”
hopefully the schedule works out well for ATL and Carolina road trips for me. The Carolina game a couple years back had us taking over the stadium. Huge tailgate at parking lot next to Westin and Stonewall Station. And maybe i'll actually see a game at the GA Dome before the close it 20 years too early

4-12 team and for some reason seems content to just sit and wait things out. Waiting for anger to subside and then tell us, no new GM and Haz stays. F'n Snyder!!!!

I guess the big story tomorrow is the Bruce Allen press conference and whether he will actually talk about the important things like football. All these people on ESPN 980 acting like they will ask the tough questions when you know it is going to like a Larry Michael interview.

Here's some questions I have after watching this debacle of a season:

What was the purporse going into the season of keeping Moss, Hankerson and Robinson on the roster? Why not use those roster spots for OL, DL, CB, S, etc? Moss did play more as the season went on and we ended up cutting Robinson late, but those just seemed like wasted spots to me. Why keep 3 WRs you barely used over positions that were clearly bigger needs going into the season and became bigger needs as the season went on?
I have absolutely no problem with Moss being on the team last year. He is a leader and we needed leaders.

Whatever the question, the answer always comes back to who owns the team. Unless that changes, poor decisions will continue to be made from the top down.

There is no hope for this team in the next 3 years minimum.
Why bother mentioning ownership? He's not selling the team.

If Snyder is the reason for this mess, then I'd say it's 30+ years of no hope.

Do we have the 5th or 6th pick?
5th. If Oakland wins, it's a 4th.
Why not mention ownership ? What else is there to mention? Tampa. Oakland. Cincy. Jets. Browns. Redskins. Same crap year after year except the occasional decent season. 3 years because even bad owners get lucky sometimes.

After 43 years of attending games and watching from home since I was a 5 year old, I'm done. I will not watch or support this team. I will not switch allegiances to another nfl team. Im dc born and raised and could never root for another team But Until snyder sells or hires real football people to do the job Im done. He cares about money. Nothing else. He has screwed the people of this city and the only thing in my power to do is not support his team or any of his businesses. I hope everyone boycotts everything he does and maybe it will make a dent in his pockets.

Best of luck to all of you that can handle the more than the 20 years of futility I've watched under his reign. I can handle no more.
:bye:

Was this a Buster alias?

Or they have realized a football guy needs to be here and make the calls. If that's the presser tomorrow I'll be a little less pessimistic.

Anyone have a prediction for today's press conference?

It's Bruce Allen, so likely he will be dropping some bombshell such as the Redskins will have new uniforms next year (and you can buy your replica jerseys in the Redskins store for only $79.99! -- or $59.99 for any QB jersey!)

In all seriousness, do you see any big news coming out of this?

My sense is that Haslett is safe but that they may announce promotion of AJ Smith to take on more personnel matters. Anyways, that's my prediction...

I don't see much coming from this. If it was going to be an impactful presser, you wouldn't hold it on New Year's Eve. The best time to get washed up in the news cycle is on Friday afternoons and Holidays. I have zero expectations for anything good today.

Yeah, maybe he'll just wish everyone a Happy New Year and announce that you can get season tickets for a 2% discount if you act within a week -- that is, if there are not too many people on the "waiting list."

Where do the Redskins go at # 5 in the draft. Just to do a quick sanity check of the "experts" I googled 2015 NFL Mock Draft and clicked on the first three. Got three different takes (below). Where do you see them going?

One of the nice things about being #5 is that it's disincentive to go QB. 2 of the top 5 will go QB possibly, leaving the Redskins with a top 3 non-QB selection...

Washington Redskins: Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame
NotreDame_logo.gif

The Redskins are passing on Shane Ray for a slightly inferior prospect, but they're set at outside linebacker. Also, they haven't been able to protect very well. It's highly disconcerting that third-round rookie Morgan Moses hasn't been able to find his way into the starting lineup despite the team's issues at right tackle. Moses finally started at San Francisco, and he was abysmal.

There's talk that Andrus Peat will return to school, whereas Ronnie Stanley, who has been incredible this year, asked the draft advisory committee for his projected grade. Check out my 2015 NFL Draft Underclassmen Tracker, where I have grades and rumors posted.

BLEACHER REPORT

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2312440-2015-nfl-mock-draft-matt-millers-post-nfl-season-projections/page/6

The Pick: SS Landon Collins, Alabama

It is incredibly rare in the NFL draft to see a safety—especially a strong safety—drafted in the top five. But when you get down to it, Washington doesn't have many needs that can be filled by this spot.

Quarterback may seem the biggest need, but it's highly doubtful ownership would spend another early pick on the position after trading so much to get Robert Griffin III. The other top players available here—Shane Ray, Bud Dupree, Brandon Scherff—are all playing positions filled by last year's selections of Morgan Moses and Trent Murphy.

Strong safety—and, frankly, the entire secondary—is a huge need for Washington. While Landon Collins isn't Sean Taylor, he'll be the best safety the team has had since No. 21 was roaming the secondary.

5. Washington Redskins
2014 record: 4-12 (.496)
Top three needs: Pass rusher, DB, OT
Analysis: The Redskins have a lot of issues on defense, starting with a pass rusher and ending with a safety -- positions that were never addressed adequately last offseason. Jason Hatcher hasn't worked out and Brian Orakpo can't stay healthy. Their offensive skill positions are set, but can Robert Griffin IIIstay healthy, and if so, can he be a longterm solution? If the answer to those questions is no, add quarterback to the list.
Top-rated seniors at positional needs: Pass rusher: Vic Beasley (Clemson), Alvin Dupree (Kentucky), Owamagbe Odighizuwa (UCLA); CB: Ifo Ekpre-Olomu (Oregon), Kevin Johnson (Wake Forest), Byron Jones (UConn); S: Derron Smith (Fresno State), Kurtis Drummond (Michigan State), Durell Eskridge (Michigan State); OT: Brandon Scherff (Iowa), Cedric Ogbuehi (Texas A&M), La'el Collins (LSU)

I think he'll announce that tonight is the team's first Annual New Year's Fest. Fans can come out to FedEx and check out the teams gold pants and hang out with alumni. That's all Allen is good for anyway.
