I thought this was a government thing and she was in the government
She's Musk. So maybe?

I took it as those folk being the puppet masters with Pres and vice President being the puppets. In that light, Vice's big quieting shout has meaning.

But Sinatra at least was up in whatever that tower was... Assuming it's security/gov related, so you could be right.

That librarian wax his bald spot every morning? No way we can not see the stubble/follicles on somebody who actually has hair and shaves it.

wandering the earth and looking for adventures just in case he runs into his wife... somewhere.
The notes in the book had coordinates in Atlanta from the confidential iPad. He turned that dial on the plane to put those coordinates in to fly him to that spot. She’s not getting far from that point in a world that’s shut down electronically.

That’s why he needed that book back from the librarian so badly.

OP may want to consider updating thread title to be a more general discussion about the show instead of the more narrow focus to a specific episode.

Then the Johnny Rainclouds might feel more welcome.

Guessing it was the coordinates of the airport she was told to get to earlier in the series. Where else is junior pilot going to land?

The streets will obviously be empty so plenty of barren highways to land a small plane like that.

sure... that was all clear.

her call was from when? didn't it mention heading to CO? I took that part her being mobile... but I'm sure she'll be chilling in the same coordinates in ATL helping set up a new world. probably with a new guy just for the drama.

I suppose Hollywood being what it is, that's what will happen. If its in the sticks makes sense, big city I'll have to suspend some disbelief.

Are you assuming that in a big city the highways will just be filled with abandoned cars when the EMF pulse hit and shut everything down? (so no clear landing strips anywhere really)

Well that and/or the rubble from the direct hit of a nuclear weapon.

It didn't hit Atlanta though, right? Otherwise wife is dead and not talking on phones

You saw the same thing I did. Big red dot expanding over Atlanta.

Wife was told to get to alternate airport so ostensibly, she could have gotten far enough away from the blast and not made it to her destination.

I got a pilot with his plastic wings from when he was 11 landing a Lear jet on a two lane road so I can suspend enough belief to get his wife far enough out of ATL to not get a 5000° sunburn

that was why he thought she was dead... but then I thought there was something about the EMP working just in time (but somehow not affecting Airforce 1).

I didnt think she was able to get far enough away to be safe, regardless of where she got- I thought the ATL bomb didn't detonate. Didn't they show something like that in the book- ATL safe... or soemthing?

I'll readily admit I could have all of that wrong... I'm not exactly paying 110% attention to this thing.

No, you're correct on all points. I guess back to the point that sent us down this rabbit hole, whether a full on nuke or an EMP, there would be a lot of stuff on every road leading into and out of ATL.

I’m assuming ATL was not nuked
Yep, the emp worked just in time (assumed at this point)

I rewatched episode 7 and the opening montage I didn’t understand at first…with the 1960s flashback of the general saying accidental nukes would happen again then leaving the room and turning lights on and off. It then clicked that he was the guy that secretly implemented the blue card emp so the president had more than one option.

Random question…the work site Project Manager/fraud Librarian and that foreign black laborer that got arsenic poisoning…

Were they insinuating that those two had a gay love affair going on? When librarian called him from jail I think that was a little too emotional reaction for just an old friend.

I don't think so.
emotional because he finally got a hold of him, he was dying from the arsenic PM had wanted to warn him about.

I think PM was just a lonely dude who took a shine to the guy.... not a gay shine.

not sure why he wouldn't have just left the dude a message saying: arsenic, end of the world, get out.

I have to go back and watch that phone call. I thought the conversation insinuated that those two were in contact after he got fired. As if it evolved into a romantic relationship.

There was no real warning him of arsenic poisoning. At the point he got fired all the workers likely were going to be affected by it at that point. They’ve all been breathing it in for months? The montage of them all becoming close was to show they’ve been working together for a while now (and breathing the poisons in the whole time)

The vibe I got was, to Floppo's point, lonely PM wanted it to go there but it didn't seem like Adam was reciprocating. Sure seemed like he had next level feelings for him but I never got the impression it was returned in kind.

I think the real world AF1 is protected against EMP/nuclear
To the extent you can, yes. The thing with EMP's is it's kinda hard to test on a large scale. You can harden a vehicle/plane/facility but until an actual event, we really don't know what is going to work and what won't. I'd say chances are good AF1 would be okay but it happens to be flying around someplace when a nuclear bomb goes off, just the turbulence associated with the event stands a good chance of knocking the plane out of the air.

It was a powerful storyline, but the thing is, all those workers in the cave that the government allowed to get sick were going to die in a few months anyway when the meteor hit.
Yep, exactly. Which is why it was an easy call for the Architect guy to fire PM and keep it moving. But also a life altering moment of confusion and mistrust for the PM/Librarian.

When he got in the plane at the end of ep 8 I got the “about to jump the shark moment” feeling
Showrunner/writer said that he's got 3 seasons planned, and that season 2 has a different storyline but the same characters. so Collins goes out and finds survivors, the president's son is a revolutionary, the VP is trying to maintain the status quo, and wii chick has her agenda with Sinatra. seems like enough for a decent second season.

Probably find out his wife was locked in a barn the whole time

As long as he doesn't start a farm.

If you haven't started watching this show yet, get on it. I just finished up Episode 7 "The Day" and wow. Best episode of a series I've seen in a long long time. Probably since Breaking Bad.
OK yeah that was pretty awesome. 45ish minutes of non-stop heart-pounding. Great stuff.

I am also enjoying this series.

I do wonder if it's too convenient that the EMP didn't shut down AF1. Ok, maybe it's constructed to withstand an EMP blast (not really sure about that), but the controls are inside of AF1, not outside of it.

As much as you can harden a plane against an EMP, AF1 is hardened against an EMP.
