Per ESPN, RGIII to be shutdown for the season (1 Viewer)

So a benching and inactive for a week wasn't enough?

Shutting down a "franchise QB" without injury? Has this been done before?

Seems to indicate that there is an injury which we don't know about, or at least confirm the chatter that he hasn't fully healed and shouldn't be playing.

I hate to be that guy, but do we really need a separate thread for this? The first page of the Shark Pool is literally littered with RGIII threads.

This ain't your father's NFL. Gone are the days on Ronnie Lott chopping off his finger, Brett Favre playing 300 consecutive games, or Jack Lambert playing with enough painkillers to kill a small horse. No, today you have Darren McFadden, Aaron Rodgers, and now RGIII - and people not playing because they might get hurt.

Do people really think that this is about RGIII being hurt, or not palying well, or anything other than Shanahan putting a ##### slap on the kid who he probably feels has been sabotaging him?

He hasn't been playing well and hasn't all year. Seems overwhelmed. Last year he seemed to do everything right and was a step ahead. This year he's doing everything wrong and is a step behind.

So? Do you really think he's not the 3rd best QB on the team?

Shanahan knows he is the franchise qb. Why let rg3 continue to struggle? In baseball, you send a flailing starting pitcher to the minors. In football, you bench your starting QB.
The guy needs to have a little confidence left to come back strong next year. Let him sit and watch, be humbled if he hasn't been already, then get an entire offseason of work. Seems like Shanahan is genuine in thinking it's the best move for the franchise to me.

More like shelved instead of benched. Nothing to play for. Coach him up and give him a go next year. If things don't improve, move on.

It's also about Shanahan giving the finger to the owner. Shanahan wants out; he won't be in Washington next year. This is just his big exit drama, trying to make himself look like less than a failure.

Why do you think he was fired?
Have you not seen the croissant picture?
No, what is that about?
It’s a type of French pastry. Flaky and delicious.
What did he do regarding that French pastry, which is flaky and delicious?

Never mind, I saw it. Why would he get fired for that?
it was a joke.

Edit Looked for myself why he got fired. Sorry if already posted.

ESPN has reportedly fired analyst Robert Griffin III (RGIII) just days after he publicly defended the Seminoles, who faced criticism for expressing their feelings about being left out of the 2023 College Football Playoff, according to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic.

“Anyone who is throwing shade at or trying to take cheap shots at Florida State for being left out of the College Football Playoff last year must be out of touch with reality. FSU wasn’t a team that was kept out because they lost a game down the stretch," Griffin wrote on Twitter. "They are a team that were kept out because their starting quarterback fractured his ankle. THAT’S NOT SOMETHING TO MAKE LIGHT OF,”
…..
……
……
The report states that his "stock had fallen," which makes you wonder if his outcries about the unfairness of the playoff selection process weighed in on the decision. Griffin was let go with two years remaining on his contract although ESPN still intends to honor his seven-figure salary.

RGIII’s wife, Grete Griffin, ran track and field at Florida State and graduated from the university. He has been a staunch supporter of the Seminoles, but it appears that the controversy surrounding the CFP has ruffled feathers within the broadcast company.

I remember watching the first ever Sportscenter back in 1979. I was 20. Used to not miss very often. Sure has gone to crap. Shows what woke will do to your popularity. I quit watching ESPN years ago.
They started going downhill way before woke was a thing. Their non-game programming has been pretty unwatchable since the late 90s or early 00s.

I used to like Roy Firestone. He seemed to disappear off the map. Pardon the Interruption wasn’t bad at one time. You know it’s bad when they hang their hat on Stephen A Smith yelling and screaming at you. Seen a few of his YouTube videos. Talk about a guy who has an inflated view of himself. He’s hard to listen to.

Amen.

A lot of other issues and overall changing landscape to get peoples attention with so many other options.

Blaming it on being woke just shows what political party you are allowing to brainwash your thinking.

No brainwashing, just fact. You have to know that their agenda hasn’t helped their viewership and bringing “P” into a sports channel was never a good idea. . They simply aren’t watched as much anymore. Yes, more than just wokeness, I agree. It’s a collection of several things.

No, it's not a fact.

Ok, I won’t argue about it. It’s a no win for everyone involved.

Yep. And it's a quick way to get this thread shut down.

Also, I think we already have a "ESPN sucks and nobody watches it anymore" thread.

I agree. Best not go any further with that. It strikes too many nerves. Sorry I mentioned the “W” word.
