Peterson charged with reckless or negligent injury to a child? (1 Viewer)

As a person who works with four year olds, I can say unequivocally that they should not hit with a switch or a belt under any circumstances. I am not against a spanking for kids, but a whipping is a different level, especially for a child who probably has no concept or understanding of what they did wrong even after the beating.

Also, this is Texas, a place where hitting is accepted. He must have really messed the kid up for the incident to even reported and then to have been indited.

For what its worth (I am too lazy to link) the article in the Star Tribune quotes Jay Glazer as saying AD is unlikely to play this weekend.

I'll admit, when I read the inital report and saw the photos of the leg, I didn't necessarily think it was child abuse. I wouldn't do it to my daughter, but I know plenty of people who grew up with switches and it's part of the general culture in a lot of areas.

If that new report is true however, I completely change my stance. This is severe child abuse, regardless of whether he believed it was or not.

Are you people serious? I picked many a switch for my parents so they could beat my butt with it.... the key is to pick one that's not to green and not too dead the green ones hurt more ...but if you get a dead one, you have to go back and get another usually means a harder beating ... This is what is wrong with this country I guess none of you ever got a paddling at school either
I'm sorry, but I am just SO SICK of these "tough guy" posts.

You know what? Screw everyone that thinks this sort of thing is OK. It isn't. It was NEVER OK. Just because your dad thought so doesn't make it right. The fact that many of us (hopefully most of us) don't tolerate this sort of behavior is what's RIGHT about America.
I don't agree with what AP did. But pounding your chest about "righteousness" is no better than his "tough guy" stance.

I probably would never do this, but I can't say I think switching is wrong. Just the way we were raised, and I'm AP's age.
The way I see it, those parents who don't have the intellect to use words to communicate properly, resort to this type of punishment.

Instilling fear is an epic fail, in my opinion.
Couldn't agree more...I have two great kids that are now in college and I never had to hit them
I suppose you're one of the legions of new age parents who prefer bribery, extortion, and endless negotiation to corporal punishment.
I prefer behavioral approach that uses reinforcement of good behaviors and extinction of bad ones, and involves nothing that you mentioned.

He's been indicted by a grand jury and it sounds like he has already admitted to doing it.

The NFL is going to have no choice ... this is going the same route as Ray Rice.

He is beating the hell out of a 4 year old.

He has a whipping room for gods sake. A WHIPPING ROOM.

this is torture

end of career, good bye and go to jail please.

Only indicted and I'm sure he'll be give a week to turn in. I'm guessing that the NFL/Vikees will allow the legal system to do its thing before acting.
I don't see the commish going that light on this one, considering how he mishandled the RRice clown show.
Yeah except how should he handle it?

1. He's been indicted, but he hasn't been found guilty of anything.

2. The attorney's statements imply that Peterson will claim it was discipline, but not child abuse.

3. So far as we know, there is no video, no tape. There are photos, and those might be compelling in a court of law, but again we don't know that.

So what is Goodell supposed to do?
Oh, Jesus, kid was four. This guy should be in prison. Immediately.
its still not ok to abuse an 11 year old.
I agree. I think this is almost certainly good reason for prison for doing it to an 11-year-old.

But under any circumstance whatsoever to strike a four year old like that is beyond imagination.
But we haven't seen AP come out and meet the press with the child and he can tell us how it was really his fault and he probably deserved it.

So...Asiata or McKinnon. Who is the add here? Anyone have any idea?

Sorry for the fantasy football question. But that's why I came to this website.

Idk pics didn't bother me that much. I know kids young but there's nothing wrong with setting a strong example of discipline from a young age. Just means you have to do it less as the kid gets older since a statement was made early on.
Yeah...strong example.....lets beat him so he listens next time.....

ool
That's not beating that's discipline. Bruises are going to show up if you use anything hard enough against the skin, be it a belt or a hand.

Bruises do not necessarily = abuse.
lacerations = abuse
He went too far with a 4 year old, but those are scratches not lacerations.

those pictures were a week after the whooping.

The ####ification of America is truly getting ######ed.

I'm not advocating that what he did was right or wrong. I'm only advocating that due process is being ignored because of Fat Lindas and public outcry.

There are amendments which were developed after firing flintlocks at our brothers and sisters. These amendments were meant to protect everyone.

We're all entitled to our opinions, because of these rights. Quit abusing them.

I just added McKinnon. I an see them splitting reps and I think McKinnon has higher upside.I can also see them giving many more rush attempts to Patterson.

I think some of you are building this whooping room up in your into something it's not. At least I hope that's the case.

It was pretty much a coin flip for me. Asiata's shown more and has more experience. But I figured if this is something that could be in play for the long-haul, I'll have the rookie who was drafted in the third, rather than the guy in his upper 20s who showed limited speed and vision. I went with McKinnon, but I could see either one being effective in Peterson's absence.

Things that are wrong with the United States of America:

1. Not enough child abuse.

2. Too much national debt.

3. Kardashians.
4. Overwrought knee jerk reactions to...pretty much everything.

My mom used a switch and the principal of our grade school used a belt. After it happens to you one time you'll never want to go through its again. I believe the many nuns used rulers across the knuckles.

The judge who issued the indictment should be stripped of his law degree.
Did the priest sodomize you, too? Just because it's been done before doesn't make it right.

This may have been asked, I'm just getting my outrage in order on this one, but is this covered under the new domestic abuse policy? Are kids/family a part of that? I feel like that is probably a dumb question, but just wondering.

Wait. So this already went thru the courts and he was found innocent of any wrong doing. So now all a sudden people are making a big #### out of this?

Really ? Who are you ?
I'm a veteran, single father of three and a patriot who believes firmly that media can be just as unfair as life. Who are you?

Edit: Also a Peterson owner who picked up Asiata.

Peterson estimated he “swatted” his son “10 to 15” times, but he’s not sure because he doesn’t “ever count how many pops I give my kids.”
Take a minute or two to act out "10 to 15" swats with a switch. Now imagine it's going down on a four year old's buttocks. For pushing another child.

Sorry, I-toughguys- that's messed up. And part of me mourns for Adrian's childhood...

According to police reports, the child, however, had a slightly different story, telling authorities that Daddy Peterson hit me on my face. The child also expressed worry that Peterson would punch him in the face if the child reported the incident to authorities. He also said that he had been hit by a belt and that there are a lot of belts in Daddys closet. He added that Peterson put leaves in his mouth when he was being hit with the switch while his pants were down. The child told his mother that Peterson likes belts and switches and has a whooping room.

It should be understood that the photographs that some have published & I have possession of were taken at least a week after incident.
Well, this is just getting worse and worse, isn't it?
It always does.

I expect him to be suspended for the rest of the year after seeing the pictures and from I've read he's admitted to doing it.

Also, I called it in Rice's thread months ago and I'm calling it now, AP will be cut. It's a PR nightmare and a team can't afford to have him on the roster. Unlike Rice, he has a decent shot of playing for another team after but I wouldn't guarantee it.
According to his attorney, Peterson has admitted to discipline, NOT to abuse. That's very different.

Times have changed. Nowadays I believe time out is the proper discipline. Might be that we need Congress to pass law that ANYONE who hits ANYONE must serve a mandatory prison term.

The pictures along with the child's sorry screams abuse, it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Yup. Fill up all that empty space in the prisons. Good call.

Wow, I take it back, what happened to that kid is unacceptable to happen to anyone of any age, much much less a four year old.

I miss the good ol days when NFL players could shoot at police helicopters and still suit up on sunday and people put liquid cocaine in their asthma inhalers for inbetween plays and when teams were owned by mob bookies.
