Player Spotlight: C.J. Spiller, RB, Buffalo Bills (1 Viewer)

What happened to Spiller breaking more tackles than any other back other than Peterson? I don't get to watch him much but I can't believe I keep hearing that all he does is dance. If he's such an elite talent, no way should he have had 10 sinking yards on 9 carries.

Is it psychological?

I think it is, his grand father went postal on a killing spree right before the season.

I'm sure that screwed with his head

 
maybe he is NUTTY right now and he isn't himself... I dumped him while he still had some value... his whopping 8.7 points were getting me bullrushed every week.

Tell me about it. I just posted in the Chris Johnson thread essentially the same thing. You can't keep rolling a guy out there that's getting you on,y 8-9 points. I have each in seperate leagues. Granted, I still think Spiller's best days are hopefully ahead of him but when these players don't catch the ball or get GL looks, how long can you roll them out there?

 
In case anyone was interested in what the split between Spiller/FJax actually looked like..

Snap/Snap Percentage

Spiller - 37 (59%) - 44 (59%) - 19 (22%)

Jackson - 26 (41%) - 30 (40%) - 62 (72%)

Utilization (includes rushes and targets)

Spiller - 23 - 20 - 11 (43 rushing attempts, 11 targets - 54 total)

Jackson - 18 - 19 - 12 (32 rushing attempts, 17 targets - 49 total)

Production

Spiller - (17/41/0 - 5/14/0) - (16/103/0 - 3/14) - (10/9/0 - 1/1/0) (43/153/0 - 9/29/0 on season)

Jackson - (13/67/0 - 4/41/0) - (12/30/1 - 5/35/0) - (7/720 - 4/37/0) (32/169/1 - 13/131/0 on season)

I'm also aware Spiller exited the game last week and that the snap distribution should emulate weeks 1 and 2 going forward.

I don't think that's a risk. McFadden is injury prone and he hasn't been all that great either ninus the game vs jax which is a joke of an opponent.

Spiller is far more talented (or at least was and still should be). I think you hosed the spiller owner.

If his QB and offensive line was even middling I'd put him as RB1 in PPR leagues but as is he'll have to settle for 4 or 5.

Yeah, I'm surprised someone actually valued DMC that high. Maybe he's licking his chops at the thought of this weeks match up vs. WAS and needs a win asap? I wouldn't say he hosed the Spiller owner but based on DMC's injury history I don't think either side of the trade is inherently riskier than the other at this juncture.

Debating benching him and going with a WR who has a decent matchup although I probably won't pull the trigger.

I'm rolling with him over Hartline/Lamar Miller/David Wilson. FWIW.

 
But still not getting in space, F Jax gets the TD, and now just got bent back leading to a leg or ankle injury.

Frustration remains.

 
Good news... He got 7 more carries than Fred Jackson.

Bad news... He's only ave. 3.3 ypc and still no TDs.

Might trade this clown straight up for Fred Jackson.

 
I'm done with him. Yeah, he's talented, yeah, he's capable of so much more, but the fact is that he's not getting it done no matter what the reason. Maybe he'll go off next week against the Browns and I'll regret benching him, but this is the last week I put up with an under-10-points performance from a supposedly elite RB1. If I can get a good trade offer, I'll definitely consider ditching him altogether.

 
With Ray Rice and Spiller as my Top 2 picks (Keep 2 league) I'm now officially screwed. 0-4 and probably no hope of making the playoffs. :violin:

I feel your pain, I have Martin and Spiller as my top 2 backs and I have no idea what to do. I thought I was set and with Sproles and Wilson as my 3 and 4 I felt great if 1 of them went down. The only saving grace I have is that if I can get about 35 points out of Sproles and Brady I will be 2 - 2 some how and tied for the division lead.

 
Jackson hurt is mcl again but is ok. It dosnt seem like he will last much longer.

Spiller is banged up but reports are hes fine.

He still put up 77 yards vs a hard run defense.

 
His problem is clearly mental. He just is't seeing the field and it's totally obvious when Freddy Jackson comes in and reads the defense, makes a cut, and gets positive yards. Spiller just plows straight ahead into a crowd. It's like he's completely lost his vision.

 
Spiller has never had great vision, which is why he is one of those "get him out in space" running backs... but the Bills coaching staff seem to think he's some kind of workhorse back and runs him like he's eddie george. Why they aren't throwing him passes or using him on screens is strange.

Good coaches come up with great schemes. Great coaches come up with great schemes that fit the players they have.

I don't know how you can say that when Spiller had 60 yards by halftime before he injured his ankle. His reads during the first half were sound and he was getting good yardage on most plays.

 
I almost hope he doesn't play this week. Could be left high and dry if he's ineffective or aggravates the injury. But if he's active, it's really tough to bench him.

I hate him. He has left early what, 3 games in a row? As an FJax owner I almost wish he’d just blow out his ACL and save me the headache.

It's easy for me to bench him. I would hope that it would be easy for Doug Marrone too. Too often coaches think short term and rush someone back with an ankle so they don't lose this weeks game. Inevitably they not only lose that game, but the player gets reinjured and they hurt the team for the next few games.

 
I may be alone, but I'd probably take Bernard over Spiller heads up in a dynasty.

4 years younger, already bigger and tougher runner & already the clear feature back (50 snaps to 18 for BJGE Week 4) & 2 ypc more.

 
Was recently offered Julio Jones/Kendall Wright for Spiller and Steve Smith in a league where I'm dead last. Thinking about this one HARD. Does Jones really have more dynasty appeal than Spiller?
