Please tell me Haslett got fired (1 Viewer)

FOXSports.com has learned that the New Orleans Saints this morning fired head coach Jim Haslett. Haslett was informed of GM Mickey Loomis' decision this morning and then Loomis met with owner Tom Benson shortly after to finalize the details.

Haslett will now become a hot candidate in places like Buffalo, St. Louis and possibly in New York if Herm Edwards bolts for the Chiefs.

Stupid move in my opinion...

He was under contract, and clearly the team will be in a state of flux for another season or two.
Dude was an awful coach....I laugh at the fact that he will get a job right away.

Loomis needs to go also.

Benson for "####### of the Year".No other coach could have done what Haslett has done with the Saints this year.......and he definitely didn't deserve this firing. No DueceHorn and his hammyBrooks sucked as usualConstant road gamesI'll go out on a limb and say that the Saints HC position will be the VERY last coaching position filled. They are just lining up for failure there.

 Stop drinking Joe Theisman's cool aid. Haslett has NEVER been a good coach. He has done less with more talent on a consistent basis. He needed to be fired 3 years ago.

Well I personally think that Haslett wanted out of NO after this season. I think he forced the hand for Benson to either give him more $$ and power or fire him.ANd Benson well Fired him.

But to me its best for all cause Haslett did not want to go back either

How'd Haslett do all those other years he coached?

It was time. The new coach gets a honeymoon first season pass anyway, and it'll be a developmental year for Leinart as well. Not looking for a coach to come in and win right away, but rather develop the young talent and shore up a terrible defense (that's filled with underutilized talent).

Then maybe it should have been done 2 years ago. I can't see firing him after the hurdles New Orleans had to go thru this year...........maybe it's a Hurricane sympathy feeling.

This was obviously a stress filled season and it eventaully took it's toll. That being said, Haslett past seasons were filled with inconsistency and mistake prone. In hindsight, it appears he should have replaced Brooks after the first few seasons when it seemed evident that despite the physical talent, Brooks never seemed to grasp reading defenses and was making the same mistakes game after game.As far as the future, I wouldn't say things are as bad as you make it out to be. They will get lienart in this years draft and with thier other picks can shore up thier suspect defensive backfield. In a year or two with good solid drafting and a wise use of free agency they could be competitive again. This is all predicated on thier next coach who I think will have to come in and establish discipline and weed out wasted players who don't play 100 percent.

If I was a legit NFL HC candidate, I'm not sure I would want this job ... as the risks far outweigh the rewards. If you pull of some success, you look like a hero. However, what are the odds of that? From what I've seen this season, Benson is a crazy person and it seems like the NFL is fit to simply make do with the Saints' displacement. I agree with the poster that said this position will be the last one filled.
