Really liking the show. Obviously the whole thing is a fantastical work of fiction, but the idea that 12 random people could somehow "save" the human race from this scenario is obviously silly. They wouldn't even know where to begin. And Carol having this intense motivation to do so (as a generally miserable person who lost the only person she seemingly cared about right away) seems kinda far-fetched.

Best case scenario is that you spend a couple of months being like the French speaking guy......hopping around the globe in luxury.....seeing all the coolest stuff, eating all the best food, sleeping with models (if you feel that's morally appropriate) and then just maybe eat a bullet if you dont want to be zombified at the end of it.

Me personally......I'm playing the world's top 100 golf courses (sending the minions ahead to prep them as needed so they're in pristine condition) seeing everything awesome I can see along the way and calling it a career

You could golf those courses with the actual current pros. I was thinking I could stage live sporting events - football, soccer, boxing matches at awesome venues, concerts and other live performances from celebrity survivors with randos filling out the crowds.
How would sports or competition work in a hive mind?
Competitors would always know exactly what their opposition is thinking, so it would boil down to pure execution.
i dont even think they would engage in it if they dont want to make anyone angry or do anything to hurt another i think the whole notion of competition and winning simply to win would likely be foreign to the hive mind i think there wouldnt be any more organized sports and frankly why would there be entertainment seems to have taken a back seat to survival and advancement take that to the bank brochachos

Golf might work, to an extent. But every player would know every nuance of every hole. It would come down to pure physical talent as the actual execution/mechanics/strategy would be identical.
But would everyone's mental toughness be the same in this scenario? Pressure affects physical talent differently based on someone's mental makeup. Does everyone now have the exact same mental makeup?

Yes...they would try and hit the exact same shot with the same club and ball...but obviously physical differences would affect the outcome.

but mental toughness plays a role in that physical performance. And how much does the mind dictate physical performance on something like a putt? I would say if the mental toughness is the same for everyone then putting would be the same for everyone. The only physical performance aspect that would differ would be on the strength side of things and not touch type things as touch is dictated by mental signals.

I feel like mental toughness would be identical for all- hive mind and all. But I think hand-eye is physical. so aside from shot selection, which theyll all be choosing identically, the individual's physical ability to hit the shot will vary.

I think for strength type things this would be true. But putting is so mental I would think it would be the same for "hive mind" people. Hand-eye coordination is probably a factor but for professional level golfers I would expect that to be negligible across the board. I would also think "touch" on your put is much more mental than physical because your hive mind is telling your body how hard to hit the ball. If everyone has the exact same read and mental signal on how hard/where to hit the ball it would be the same every time for everyone.

I guess the question for an activity like putting how much of the mind telling the body what to do influences the movement over the body limitations on that movement. I don't know the answer to that.

Caught up and just ok for me so far. Love the concept and cinematography, but Seehorn's character is kinda one note and boring to this point. Tough for me to really get into it when she is basically tasked with carrying the whole show and is kinda annoying. Definitely in for the ride, and expect it to probably get better, but so far just average for me. Expecting a huge plot twist here since I've heard they want to do 3 seasons. 3 episodes of every human on Earth being super nice to Carol is too much already.

Have we talked about the sex yet?
That’s what I was thinking about with the Air Force one guy with the harem of supermodels. You’re basically having sex with everyone in the world - family members, dictators, pedos, podcasters, nazis, angry fantasy football message board posters, etc.
Yeah, but as a non-hive member, in your mind and heads, it's only who you're looking at/copulating with.

As a chronic over-thinker, I would definitely be thinking about it.

Just to spice things up

I thought the cold open to episode 4 was classic Gilligan and really good. I am interested to learn more about our Paraguayan friend and what’s he’s up to with that radio. I don’t think he’s looking for survivors.

Starting to wonder if that original radio signal needs to keep broadcasting for the hive thing to work and that's what he's looking for.
Wasn't the radio signal just a list of ingredients to make the virus or whatever it is?

Yeah, but we really don't know how it works and there's obviously something that can reverse it.

They needed those giant *** dishes to get the radio signal that was coming from millions of light years away. Is this guy's ham radio really gonna get that signal?

I dont know. It's just speculation. Maybe they amplified it locally for it to work the way it does? I dont know what else the radio could be for if it isn't for listening for other immune people.

It could be that simple actually. The takeaway from that cold open was that he wrote down Carol's name and will most likely be looking for her. The radio wasn't really the important part of that scene.

Or the hive mind communicates via high frequency waves and he’s looking for that. I think there is more to the radio and that scene in general than what we know right now. I thought the radio in the cop car was very front and center in a way that we were supposed to notice

Fun little detail that came out this week. I guess Paraguayans have a very distinct accent. The actor speaks in episode 3 and clearly sounds like a Colombian and not someone from Paraguay, to the point where it was really obvious and kind of jarring for people in the know. Turns out the character is actually a Colombian who lives in Paraguay, so it was not an oversight. The attention to detail is a really fun part of how Gilligan operates. I also think we've been shown answers to a lot of questions through some of the references that are made - putting stuff in plain sight is another hallmark of his.

Oh no doubt the radio is important. I like the thought that they communicate via radio waves

Interesting theory I've seen.

Maybe the way to reverse or disable the hive is with harmonics. Clues include how the opening theme is sung in unison and how at the end of the last episode when they are all saying " Please Carol" all out of sync.

Binged the 4 available episodes. Enjoying it so far. I see the Invasion of the Body Snatchers reference but in my mind I see Carol as Howard Roark in The Fountainhead.

I think it's a great show but the emotional weight isn't there yet for me like it was in BB/BCS, just not enough characters to invest in. But loving the story/plot and that they tricked my wife into enjoying a sci-fi based show.

Wife and I through three episodes. I like it (don't love it though like how I was instantly invested into BB and BCS), but she is only lukewarm on it and it doesn't help that I keep falling asleep. My wife likely bails soon but I trust Gilligan enough to keep going with it.

I like the line in episode one while they're at the bar talking about Carol's next move, and she expresses concern one of her potential projects could turn out like a bad star trek episode. Very self aware tongue in cheek writing there.

Care to unpack this a little more?
I cant seem to find the reddit thread that was theorizing this, but it has to do with harmonic sounds waves. Evidence was how the opening credits have people singing in harmony with sound waves on the screen. Also, how the group was all chanting "Please, Carol" completely out of harmony. Why would a hive mind do it that way? I'm not an expert in harmonics though, so take this for what it is.

I could explain the physics of harmonics to you if you want, but I don't want to muck up the thread with physics class. I am just trying to wrap my brain around what it would mean to "reverse or disable the hive with harmonics". To me, the examples of singing in unison vs. chanting out of synch is reminiscent of the idea of waveforms being in phase vs. out of phase. Phase differences would have interference implications in wave mechanics.

If this becomes a show like LOST where there’s an entire culture of people obsessing over theories I’m out.
I don't see that here. In LOST, we didn't know what the hell was going on. The beauty of that show was "finding" your way through it. In this show, we seem to know what is going on (although maybe not why). We just don't know the mechanism by which it is happening, or how/if it will be thwarted.

I'm mildly shocked so many of the board posters like this show
-It plays to me much differently than it must play to most of you

Out of respect for the House, I won't deep dive into this but...the premise there is a large group or the majority of humans with a few exceptions that can't go with the flow...
Really brings out memories of the Pandemic and many of the posters on here typing some of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen in print
We had posters actually speak out and say they would like to basically wear a mask at all times for the rest of their lives, no issues wearing them at all or at a moment's notice

The show is way ahead of most of the audience and I doubt most get or feel what i feel when i watch the show and I never say these things about any other show on Television
This one seems blatant in its assault on society and human beings but again, maybe not everyone is hearing the show in the same way I am

-That said, 97% of this community has raised their hand and Identified themselves as returners of their grocery carts every time they shop.
From the back of the parking lot to the front doors of the Piggly Wiggly, I smell Nobel Peace Prizes for a few of you

I'm in full hijack mode, please move to the back of the plane as I'm holding a thermal detonator
Thank You!

I'm as pro mask-wearing and shopping cart returning as anyone here I think (but I dont remember anyone saying they actually enjoy wearing a mask), and I love the show so far. You're making a lot of leaps and strange assumptions here.
