Portis Doesn't practice today (1 Viewer)

Tuesday, September 05, 9:23 PM EST (Week 1)

News Story: Joseph White, of the Associated Press, reports Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis (shoulder) did not suit up Tuesday, Sept. 5, for practice. Portis didn't comment as he left the field. Head coach Joe Gibbs said he needs to see Portis practice before putting him in the game. The players will have off Wednesday, Sept. 6, followed by three days of full practice Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 7-9. "He is still day to day," Gibbs said. "He had a real good day in the weight room and rehab also. He is doing a real good job with it and will continue to expand what he is doing. It is still day to day, though. He feels like he is making good progress."

9/6 update: Play-by-play voice of the Skins on Snyder's radio station says he does not believe Portis will play Monday. Shoulder is still wrapped up even though he continues to work out.

Stay tuned for the Injury Report at 3pm.

:goodposting: Teddy. Posts like yours are the lifeblood of the Shark Pool. :thumbup:J

I'd rather he not play at this point. I have to have my lineup in by tomorrow night, so I probably won't be starting him no matter what.

The play-by-play guy's comments are interesting, however my gut feeling is that Friday's going to be earliest day by which we'll start feeling confident about his status for Monday's game.

I'm wary of anything coming out of Redskins Park and from Snyder's radio station. Danny Radio rivals state radio in North Korea for the amount of propaganda it spews, and if Gibbs is purposely keeping mum or misinforming on Portis's status, Danny Radio will follow suit. And if they are, they're doing a good job because I'm almost convinced Portis sits Monday and maybe longer.

The injury report will tell all.

I've heard quite a bit of that show since espnxxx took to the airwaves last month and the fact of the matter is, Larry Michael seems to have almost no insight into what's really going on with this team. He really had to suck up to Snyder to get the play by play job(since they fired Frank, I usually listen to the away team announcers) in the first place. Wouldn't put it past him to play along with whatever the team wants.

Yeah, I'm not a DC local anymore so I have no insight into that type of thing. I didn't figure that he had any better info than we did, but your observation is interesting.

:goodposting: when I saw the post from Teddy I had to question the source. Larry Michael and Sonny Jurgensen do the play-by-play for Redskins radio and I would seriously question what they are reporting as fact or news. He could be telling the truth but I wouldn't rely on anything Michael says as gospel.

There's a report on a Redskin board about Portis having his birthday party last weekend. I really have no idea if this sheds any light on his injury or not:

Edit: nevermind, this was a hoax as explained by Redman in his post below this one.

Link

I have first hand knowledge that his shoulder looks to be doing very well. I will expand on this in a later post but for now I can say that at his birthday party on Saturday at his house he was picking up heavy overstuffed chairs and moving them around with ease. The shoulder showed no issues and someone even mentioned it and he said it was cool. How do I know this? THAT is what will be xplained when I have time.
I work for a company that does casino parties and he hired us for his family party. There were a few Skins there...mostly the RBs and WRs. Everyone was really nice and his family is super cool. His dad was cooking ribs and fed us. The players were totally cool. It was just a chill party for his best family and best friends on the team I am guessing. One thing to note is that Rock Cartwright is totally small. The dude isn't even 5'6" but is built like a f*cking brick ##### house. Absolutley like a 90 inch chest. A total monster. Very impressed.

As for Clinton he showed no effects of the shoulder injurty and in fact, as stated before, did several lifting of heavy chairs that would presummably prove his shoulder is doing nicely. I am no doctor but unless they decide they don't NEED him then I don't see him sitting. Maybe he gets limited bangs but he'll play. He's a gamer anyways.

Oh yeah his house is ricockulous. We were in the game room which is the bottom floor of the guest house. Needless to say it was ginormous and I didn't get to see the real house in back.

Disregard this. I read elsewhere that this was a 'Skins fan sarcastically responding to a Vikings fan post claiming that Portis' neighbor told his friend that Portis wasn't playing.EDIT to add link; go to post #26.

News Story: Coach Joe Gibbs said Portis "feels he's making real progress" but remains day-to-day, the Washington Times reports.

Fantasy Analysis: Portis participated in weight room work and received treatment on his left back on Tuesday. His status for the Redskins season opener remains unclear, but Gibbs' words are encouraging.

Not to further confuse things, but Larry Michael did mention today that Portis DID have a birthday party over the weekend. No mention as to what activities Portis or his shoulder were engaging in, though. :) And my original snippet about Larry Michael this afternoon was purely his conjecture about Portis's status for Monday. He certainly wasn't breaking any news.

Fact remains he is listed as questionable on the injury report. We'll see if he's upgraded or downgraded in the next few days.
