Preseason Game Observations (1 Viewer)

ZIGGY IS A BEAST! If that is what he has to offer, great draft pick.

Sanchez just lost his job for good. Geno can do a buttfumble and still start Wk 1.

Anybody got a link to a stream of any of the games? I'm not willing to pay Verizon $25/month to get NFL network in the preseason.

Cris Polk not looking so good vs 1st team D

B. Brown looking good vs 2nd team D (i think)

eagle hurry up O looks good
Not what I saw. Polk looked okay on runs, dropped some weight and looked quicker. Had a great block on vick to desean td. Bryce looked good too though.

Dennis Johnson may be a name to remember, especially in return yardage leagues. Foster's been run to death and is on the PUP, and Ben Tate has battled injury troubles the past couple years.

Johnson is the primary kick returner right now, and is making some noise in camp. He's short but stout, and looks quick and shifty. 3 down skill set, and he's the guy that displaced Knile Davis at Arkansas.

Patterson has looked OK to me as well, but he's still raw. Great return to start the game, and had a big catch mid-way through the first.

He's really dangerous with the ball in his hands - tough to wrap up or get a clean hit on, which is what most saw on tape.

They're going to need to find ways to do that...

Tyler Eifert's name is out there a lot ... Hard Knocks will likely inflate his value ... The guy you want here is Zach Ertz ... My in-laws are related to him, so I've had an eye on him for 2+ years ... Chip Kelly watched Zach Ertz score the game-winning touchdown in Stanford v. Oregon last year ... Chip Kelly knows what he's about and will use him right outta the gate
Want for what? He might be 3rd string on his own team? QB questions with a coach who likes to run. I like him long term and Chip will implement some 2-3 TE sets but Casey has impressed in camp and Celek is still there.

He is projected as borderline TE2. You might be able to get him as a solid back up but in a year with tons of upside guys at TE, I'm not sure why you would target him unless you were related to him.

I still can't believe Shaun Hill isn't starting somewhere in this league, he is better than at least a handful of current starting QBs.

We see why the Packers signed Vince Young...Harrell blows.
Ironic...

As for the Eagles-Pats game, Brady was spreading the ball around quite a bit, Vereen was definitely being used in a variety of ways. Thompkins was the most effective of the Pats rookies with the first team offense, but again this is way too small of a sample size. Eagles defense also looked awful to me, again small sample size and Tom Brady...but still. I'm excited about Chip's offense, especially the no huddle , up-tempo drives, very effective as they were for the Pats last year. I think McCoy and Jackson will have pretty good seasons. Jackson has apparently had a very good camp and looked good on that first drive with Vick. I still hope Foles starts, I just feel way more comfortable when he's throwing the ball compared to Vick. Announcers were pointing out how similar they were as passers last year which is why it's such a close competition, but doesn't the tie go to the guy who's 9 years younger?

Polk didn't look impressive as a runner to me despite the 10-15 pound drop and apparently a good camp. I'd still prefer to see Brown win the rb2 job and have the staff work on his fumbling issues and improve his overall game(blocking/receiving). He's a very good runner.

Cutler's first pass is an interception....tried to force a 5 yard pass to a guy who was covered well
I was watching the Bears game and it looked to me like Jeffries quit on the slant, if he kept going the ball would have been in his gut not the defenders. But the game is on the Panthers network and they didn't show another angle of the pick, so I could be wrong.

i think the three rookie first round WRs are going to be the truth in dynasty...

i have high expectations for austin in redraft, not so much for patterson (unless they make a concerted effort to target him, which is exactly the point in question and i have my doubts because of his reported route running rawness - hey, hand it, flip it, roll it to him if you need to, just get the ball in his hands :) )... but it wouldn't be a big surprise if hopkins puts up the best numbers as a rookie...

jennings is no slouch, but simpson still tentatively WR2, patterson's role so far very much up in the air... rudolph is an emerging receiving weapon...

givens is talented, and jared cook will be targeted a lot, which could help create space for tavon austin...

but andre johnson best WR1 of this group, so hopkins should never see double teams as a rookie... great pick by HOU if he fulfills his potential, the roddy white/julio jones comparisons will look pretty apt in retrospect (though hopkins not julio explosive, but he should get a lot of targets and opportunities, the texans have needed an upgrade at WR2 for as long as i can remember, it has been a real drafting blind spot for the team for a long time, kind of like DE for the jaguars)...

8 targets for Patterson in the first half, good for 4-54. He should have had at least 1 more, but he was separating well and better in his routes than expected. I think he'll surprise.

HOU may have finally found a weapon to have opposite Andre in D-Hop
What has he done?
4 catches on 5 targets, 52 yards including a 34yd TD
Was that all with first team? Also, you see Showtime has a real good few fights tonight. Deontay Wilder is a pretty exciting heavyweight KO machine.
TD wasnt but I think he had a couple of those catches with first team.

feels like there is way too much weight being put into anything that happened last night. Denver was sitting in a vanilla base d the entire 1st drive and I assume every other team playing last night did the same.
Probably fair - I still thought James looked good though, and was pleased to see them start him and see him perform, not just on the perimeter.

By that same logic, how bad does it make the DEN guys look if SF was sitting in a vanilla base D?
I don't think they were though... for example, on one play the safety came down and timed the snap and beat Julius Thomas and met Ball 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage in the backfield.

The guy runs too upright and slow changing directions.

Always felt he's a fringe NFL talent.
