Thanks, man.just listened to the first song ...damn awesome bonzai!
The world used to be smallerAs soon as you described that previous post, I figured you must have. But still crazy small world and all.
My oldest and quasi-bestest friend from elementary school. But we lost her for a bit during her heady, pre-success, "I'm a punk" days to the city and lots and lots of drugs. Dropped out of HS and was gone a for a long stretch (including a family induced year in pre glasnost Poland instead of juvie/prison) until her first play showed up (appropriately called Juvee). My mom taught her english., so I'll partially claim responsibility for her abilities....except...she's one of the only true geniuses I've ever known, so nothing was teaching her or getting in her way except herself. The genius was frustrating to be around for me. Even though a lot of things came kind of easily to me, I supplemented through hard work as well. Cintra could just do anything without trying...and do it brilliantly. Oh, I think I'll learn accordian/guitar/astrophysics/whatever....and instantly learn it. She ruined me on guitar, which to this day is still a mystery to me, and pisses me off that I couldn't just pick one up the first time and play it the way she did.
We saw him play a show at Brouwerij in San Pedro last year. Watt's band was opening for X. It was cool to see The King of Pedro in his natural habitat.Watt plays Long Beach all the ####### time. We should go. I just hate that drive.
Somehow, I knew you were taking The Gun Club. Seriously. That guitar is awkward against his hip all that time, though.8.xx The Gun Club - Sex Beat
I wanna say she was 15 or 16 when she ran off to the city. I lost touch with her during those pre Juvee years. The world used to be smaller
I knew Cintra in her years between spending time in Juvee and writing a play about her. If her Wikipedia birthday is accurate, she was still a teenager while dating my roommate. Her youth is much more remarkable to me now than it seemed at the time. Back then, you hardly even thought about it because of Cintra's enormous self-confidence. She was usually able to charm the bouncer which I guess is easier to pull off when you're hot sht.
We lost touch after I moved out of the 7 rooms of doom. We went to her plays and occasionally crossed paths before she moved to LA and her slice of fame and fortune. I'm glad I was able to see the comet flash across the sky.
i think that you, El Floppo, Dickies and Herb may still owe round 7 picks? I did google doc updating on Saturday, but maybe I missed something.Round 8 was Sunday. Anyone owing round 8 picks can make them and 9.01 can go as well on the clock, I believe that is @Ilov80s? Updating everything here this AM.
Depending on how well we get back on track, we'll either return to picking in order or picks at xx time each day.
Awesome, I owe those picks for sure. I see the Spotify list is updated fairly recently as welli think that you, El Floppo, Dickies and Herb may still owe round 7 picks? I did google doc updating on Saturday, but maybe I missed something.
Yeah, we all have our drafting favorites. I don't think the Go Betweens ever made a punk song though.Somehow, I knew you were taking The Gun Club. Seriously. That guitar is awkward against his hip all that time, though.
Perfect.
you just knocked "She's Kerosene" off the list of newest song to be drafted!I've seen these guys a couple time recently - once at a festival and once opening for The Hold Steady.
7.05 - The Dirty Nil - Bathed in Light
It wasn't that you'd drafted them before, I just figured that if anyone took the Gun Club, it'd be you.Yeah, we all have our drafting favorites. I don't think the Go Betweens ever made a punk song though.
Yeah, it's pretty great. I think I mentioned it in the 2018 thread but that night I saw them open for THS was the day it was released, so they played the whole thing, it is definitely one of my favourites of the year.P.S. Master Volume is going to be right near the top of my AoTY list.
This is good #### right here
Yes, I am a total sucker for tough guy / beatdown hardcoreBr00tal ones, too?
example deuxush:I wasn't really punk... so some of the stuff I draft, like this, might be overlappy.
dick johnson- ##### galore
I was kind of hoping @Ron Swanson would go fully meta and take 'Cocaine' for the video. (edit - warning: unedited prosthetic penis at some point in this video...)
Had this on a mixtape I gave to my girlfriend in '97. She was the New Girl, of course.
Bwahahahaha...I was kind of hoping @Ron Swanson would go fully meta and take 'Cocaine' for the video. (edit - warning: unedited penis at some point in this video...)
Also, Ron is OTC
So freaking awesome. Love Negative Zero/You're Such A Drag
I have several picks in chamber that are punk adjacent, and not purely punkrock.
Great song. Never heard of the Joneses. But wonderful. They look a little glam/trash/punk. Have to check out more.
Read the latter part. Gonna take a little while to make it through something from Longreads, but thanks for posting, Eephus. Good stuff.Excerpt from An Oral History of Detroit Punk Rock

I actually heard this version long before I ever heard the original. Still my #1 earworm.Sayerville NJ, the home of Bon Jovi and the home to The Starland Ballroom. Saw this band here in February 2005 with the Street Dogs. Not as good of a show as when I saw them at Irving Plaza when I met Evan Seinfeld and Tera Patrick (great googly moogly) but I have something else for my Irving show

You are correctHad this on a mixtape I gave to my girlfriend in '97. She was the New Girl, of course.
eta* I also think they used to be Jack Kevorkian and the Suicide Machines and just shortened the name, according to Maximum Rock N' Roll back then, which was how I got my punk news.
