Put 'er in the old vice! (1 Viewer)

Did anyone else find it odd while watching the Soundtracks recording of Favre's record breaking TD that he kept going up to people and screaming

"Put 'er in the old vice!!!"

and then shaking their hands? is there some backstory to this? It made me laugh, and I have been saying it ever since.

Favre? never heard of him....

Favre is known for having big, strong hands. Presumably, shaking hands with him could be like sticking your hand in the vice.

There's probably some sort of joke amongst the Packers about Favre having a "vice-like" handshake, and there you have it.

I think it's called "having fun".
sure looked like itit made me laughPUT 'ER IN THE OLD VICE!!!!
Me too. I think the love fest surrounding Favre bugs me a lot more than Favre himself.
being from minnesota.. that figures.. the love fest for favre is for a reason... name one qb.. that plays for the love of the game the way favre does?? with the energy?? the competetiveness??? the lets have fun attitude????..there isnt a qb ANYWHERE that has favres attitude and love for the game.. that is what makes for the love fest... Favre is without a doubt one of the greatest to have ever played the game. It is great to watch someone play for the love of the game.

You don't think the homages every single time he plays in prime time are over the top?I'm talking about the media's attempts at deifying Favre, not the fan's love and appreciation of him.

And from your punctuation skills I see you likely graduated with honors from your Wisconsin high school. I bet all your relatives think you're pretty uppity.

(Just :banned: because you started it first. )

Stop being so finicky. At least they didn't turn the MNF broadcast the pre-game show for Colt-Patriots like I expected. At least they were talking about teams actually playing and players actually on the field. It can't be all bad, can it?

Remember, just because you sit down and watch every Favre game and get tired of the praise, doesn't mean that the network can act like every person sitting down has done the same."Why are these Police Academy movies always about these same idiots?"

I know, a stupid and far fetched example. But I'm just trying to point out that Green Bay on Monday Night is about a bunch of people tuning in to watch the Packers and especially Favre. (No offense Broncos.) We like to feel that becuase we play our little pretend game on Sundays and put money into and argue with each other that the retrospectives should focus only on guys from our money league. "I have Ryan Grant on my dynasty squad. Screw Favre, and talk about Grant!" Well, there are hundreds of thousands of people out there who loved every minute of the Favre praise.

And I do have a solution if you hate it when they say too many nice things about a player. Get a DVR. Have the nice man program in Button A to jump forward 30 seconds. Go out for a walk and let the game get about 45 minutes in, staying away from radios and computers, and then start from the beginning as though it were live. As soon as someone gets tackled, hit the A button and jump to the next play. Skip all the annoying banter from the booth and the commercials to boot.

Plus, you can then rewind and listen to the "Put-er-in-the-vice" section again (had to get back to the original post). Which I personally took to mean that Brett will be running as the Vice President on Stephen Colbert's ticket.

Colbert/Favre '08. Better than any other option out there.

Gracious. It's like I took The Lord's name in vain at a revival in here.
No, I was just poking a stick in your eye as well, and I guess getting out some rage from the myriad of other posts last night and today where the topic is something about football, and turns into "I hate how much love Favre gets". I've always enjoyed your posts and only responded to you because I knew you could actually come up with a solid response ("gracious" being severely underutilized) rather than try to out piss me.And so to you Andy Dufresne, I say, "Put 'er in the ol' vice!"

I can't think of a more enjoyable player to watch in the league than Brett Favre. He's hard to root against. He's Chad Johnson without the punk.I think "Put 'er in the ol' vice!" could become quite the catch phrase.

i was dying when i heard it.

you gotta love bret favre... regardless... i mean i lost by 1 pt because of his OT touchdown but im still crazy about the guy. Even though he drinks ensure instead of gatorade on the bench doesn't mean anything.. he's still ok in my book.

"put 'er in the old vice".... if nobody previously said this because i didn't feel like reading all 20 posts... i think he was referring to his hand as the "vice" telling aaron rodgers to shake his hand... i dont think theirs a backstory what so ever.

To not love Favre is to not love football. The guy is the embodiment of everything you want in a football player. There is no other QB I would want to have the ball, down 6, with 1:30 left to play. Not Brady, not Manning, Favre!! He's money and I hope he upsets whoever he plays in the Superbowl.

As a Steeler fan, and despite my pops being from Long Island and a big G-Men fan, I already know I'll be rooting for Favre in the playoffs this year (NFC playoffs). As it looks right now, the Pack will have at least 1 home game in the playoffs. If the NFC champ game is at Lambeau, WOW. That'll be a huge game, and if the Pack lose in a heartbreaker, I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to retire or play another 5 years. How huge would an NFC champ game @ Lambeau be though. RIDICULOUS!

He's on a good team, but he'd almost be luckt just to make it to 1 SB, let alone win 2. With the AFC climate these days, no way Favre handles the heat. With the team GB has had the last couple years, I think making the SB is basically winning it.

That's how I saw it. Funny watching him lift his receiver up and carry him around, instead of the other way around.

I agree. There's no QB I'd rather you have, either. That means I'll have Brady and Manning on my team. The only question is who to start?

I'm as big a Favre fan as there is, but I hear where you're coming from. It is a bit over the top. But I think I get why.Marino stuck around too long....his last few games were downright embarrassing.

Montana went off to KC and ended things on a sort of down note. If Favre had walked away last year, or year before...I think it would have felt the same to some degree. But everything around this year feels better...Favre himself is playing better, fewer interceptions....lost of TD's.....lots of yards, he's breaking records, but all he talks about is the team and the team getting wins. So there's a lot to celebrate here. He's the right kind of player, saying the right kinds of things, and playing some really good football 17 years into his career. That is awesome.

I think the broadcasters and fans have missed the opportunity to really appreciate some of the greats on their way out...Young's career ended way early, Aikman too, so we KNOW we're seeing a swan song (although it's been going on 2 + years) for Favre so they're appreciating him on the way out. The fact he's playing at such a high level just makes it all the better.
