Likewise. Certainly he's defying the odds, both as to his health and production, and I think many if not most observers would say he's lost a step or 3. Many more missed throws and missed opportunities than we're used to seeing. But even with a broken thumb and playing at 80% or so at most from his peak, he's still better than most. I think the Packers decided he was down to his last year or so in 2020 and then he reeled off two straight MVPs. But agree that anyone taking on that contract and the sideshow that comes with it is praying to the football gods for one more good season.

good post but I think the bold print is why you take a chance on him. he has no one to throw to , no TE, no WRs worth mentioning outside of maybe Watson, and that is why there were so many missed opportunities/drops/ints/incomplete passes. GB has killed Rodgers slowly, year after year, with a continually lousy defense, aging offensive line, and no WRs outside of D. Adams. if you put Rodgers on TB he would absolutely kill it with those WRs. put him on the jets and he'll do really well. it's like the plight of danny dimes, he has no star WR to pass to, nothing but a bunch of decent players who might not even make it off the practice squad on other teams. it's amazing what a good group of WRs does to a QB. you think Jalen Hurts would have been so good this seasons without Brown and Smith? nope.
on another note I'm not sure that Rodgers didn't just sabotage the season on his own. seems to me he's been battling with GB front office for the better part of the last decade. a change of venue would rejuvenate him beyond belief. put him on the vikings and he'll win the MVP and probably go to the SB again. they're not getting anywhere with Cap't Kirk , never will.
If I'm the Jets I'm seriously considering a trade offer for Rodgers. He might also do well in LV, Raiders have talent and a pass-happy coach. just imagine Rodgers on the Commandos, with those WRs and RBs. danny snyder is a deal maker it makes sense for them to throw their hat in the ring for Rodgers.

This has felt like an inevitable match on one side -- the question at this point that we don't know the answer to is how strongly Rodgers feels about joining the Jets. It's an obvious move for a New York offensive outfit that was held back by their quarterback, and for the second straight offseason the Nathaniel Hackett hirer has been rumored to be into Rodgers. Does Rodgers want to move to New York? We'll surely hear more after his Darkness Retreat.

Agree he marches to the beat of a different drummer. I don't think I'd like the guy if I met him, but have immensely enjoyed watching him play football the past 15 years. Don't forget that Schefter tweeted an unsourced rumor that sounded like fact reporting on the morning of the draft two years ago. We had multiple threads and polls on this board speculating over Rodgers' future. Everyone was convinced he was retiring or sitting out to force his way off the team. Media was following his every move on vacation. But it was never the case that he wanted to move, sit out or retire. The next day on the radio Schefty answered the first question put to him by saying his tweet was based on essentially a gut feeling and an "accumulation of information" - not on any actual knowledge. I think Rodgers' comment today is quite level-headed. A different player or person might have been a bit more aggressive in his comments under these circumstances.

He’s clearly obsessed and has a major axe to grind with Rodgers. He talks about a source for this but uses some cagey words and admits it’s also just his gut feeling. He goes through every single season ending game and details how poorly Rodgers played (other than the superbowl win which he says was Rodgers best game and one of the best ever superbowl QB performances.) Just as an example, he derisIvely mocks the suggestion that Rodgers is a first ballot HoF player. He also says if Rodgers comes back and collects the $60m first day cash he would still be the backup to Love this season. Bob is 70 years old, long retired and hasn’t been a credentialed beat reporter for probably at least a decade.

He's a weirdo, but so is Brady to a degree, and he just demonstrated how long you can really play in this league at the position if you "really want to" if you still got the talent, etc.

I think that's an issue along with Rodgers buy-in, as in will he put in work with his new teammates during the off-season. How team(s) feel about that, how Rodgers answers that question, I think will have a huge bearing on his market price.

I don't think the flakiness is a concern at all. The NFL has ignored a lot (crimes, personality, etc.) if the talent is there. All the rest just makes for good copy and click bait.

As far as the one year of Rodgers concern, that can easily be overcome by a trade package that includes conditional picks if Rodgers plays longer and how well he plays.

And as CletiusMaximus pointed out above, McGinn seems to have an axe to grind with Rodgers. I'm a big fan of McGinn as well and his draft series are great. But when he doesn't like someone it's pretty apparent. And he doesn't give any source other than his gut feeling. He made very similar comments regarding Rodgers future two years ago. I can see the Packer's moving on from Rodgers this year, but I don't put a lot of stock in the McGinn story.

my comment on flakiness is only in relation to how long he plays and his commitment, and i don't think there's ever been a trade in nfl history that was related to how many seasons or how well someone plays, % of playing time yes but not those things.

McGinn used to be great. He had a decent network of scouts where he got most of his information. Problem is, I think most have moved on and he doesn't have the sources he once did. While he has always been pretty critical...lately it almost seems as if he is just angry and yeah has an axe to grind with Rodgers from very early on. Not sure the last time he got something right.
