QB Brock Purdy, SF (5 Viewers)

I'm wondering if he resets the QB market or if he ends up taking lower deal for the perception of his talent around him being a correlating factor to his success.

Then again, this guy has experienced much more success than he probably thought was possible when he was drafted in the 7th. On one hand, it would seem he might not have an ego and would take a smaller deal to keep talent around him to keep himself "relevant". See what I did there? 😏

But at the same time, he's taken his team to the Super Bowl and we've got guys resetting the market with less stats and success (particularly playoff success) to show for it than him.

Backup, Allen or Dobbs? I hear it’s not clear, but I’m thinking Dobbs.
Allen is leading now but that could change.
If something were to happen to Purdy, God forbid, I would think Dobbs gives them the best chance to win. That particularly means the playoffs.
I’m just relating what the beat writers have said. Dobbs certainly has a track record of coming off the bench and winning some tough games, but Allen reportedly runs Shanahan’s offense more the way Shanahan wants it run.

If you want to read a whole article about the QB2 competition by someone who is pretty plugged in: link

Dan Orlovsky on Brock Purdy playing without CMC, Deebo and possibly George Kittle:

“If there was ever a window of opportunity for Brock Purdy to break a lot of the narrative attached to his name, that he is just a coattail rider, it is gonna be this window right now for Brock Purdy.”

Purdy is a good football player. He always looks poised. Pay the man!

After taking a massive L on Lance, I bought high last year and this year in my superflex leagues. I wish I had bought in sooner.

Coach Yac
Richard Sherman on Brock Purdy’s play against the Rams:

“I thought this was a statement game for Brock Purdy because they say he can’t do it without his weapons… He threw for almost 300 yards, 3 touchdowns, no interceptions and ran the ball for 41 yards. He’s a good quarterback, he’s an elite quarterback. I would say he’s one of the top five quarterbacks in the NFL.

If you give him the same criticism [as elite QBs] then please give it to Joe Burrow. Please give it to every quarterback that you think is elite and that has not played that way, because Brock’s playing that way and you don’t want to give him credit.”

Jacob Gibbs
Brock Purdy in his first game without Deebo Samuel + George Kittle + Christian McCaffrey:

- 3.64 second average time to throw (career-high)
- only 22% of passing yards coming after the catch (career-low)
- 328 air yards (2nd-highest career mark)
- 4 dropped passes (career-high)

🟥TruMedia's charting gave Purdy zero off-target throws, even with a 10.7-yard aDOT

🟥Purdy was pressured 18 times and only sacked once

🟥Finished with a 0.35 EPA per dropback rate even without Deebo/Kittle/CMC, the eighth-highest of his career.

Purdy created so much offense on his own with his pocket navigation in this game. Really impressive real-life QB showing, nothing gimmicky about this performance. And, of course, he was helped by the Jauan Jennings heroics.

QB Brock Purdy through first three weeks with NFL rank:

QBR - 74.1 (4th)
Completion % - 72.6% (7th)

Yards/attempt - 8.9 (2nd)
Air yards/attempt - 9.6 (3rd)
Pass TDs - 4 (T-7th)
Off target % - 8.4% (3rd lowest)

Purdy is at it again, and without CMC.

He's leads the league in passing yards (1133) despite being 13th in passing attempts (122).

In addition to passing yards, he leads the league in:

Yards per pass attempt 9.3
Deep completions 9
Deep passing yards 292
Deep passes dropped🤦‍♂️
First downs 60

Where he ranks in:

Snap-to-release time: #2

Tight-window throws: #2
Adj net yard/att: #2

Adjusted net air yards/attempt:

1. Josh Allen: 8.7
2. Brock Purdy: 8.3
3. Sam Darnold: 8.2
4. Lamar Jackson: 8.0
5. Derek Carr: 7.6

Highest Pass Rating over first 25 career starts since merger

Brock Purdy 112.6
Patrick Mahomes 112.5
Kurt Warner 106.2

Thought this was super interesting.

Jesse Reed: "In a way, not having CMC this year may have forced Purdy to evolve even more. He's big-play hunting like we haven't seen from a 49ers quarterback in a long, long time."

Doug Farrar: "20 attempts of 20 or more air yards already this season. 57 in the entire 2023 season, through the Super Bowl."

I hyped him up. Now it’s my turn to call him out. He played terrible today. Must have known that I finally had the guts to start him ahead of Mahomes.

Akash Anavarathan
Brock Purdy: 5-0 vs. Seahawks and 3-0 in Seattle in the former house of horrors.

What a win for this gritty 49ers' team. Huuuuuge win.

Get healthy, bring on the Chiefs in 10 days.

Have been clinging to him for dear life at QB, had Tua go down and was able to land safely here
It's not always 30+ but he seems to land about there once every 3-4 weeks perhaps? And the other weeks are right in the middle, usually doesn't leave you with a total hole
