I would think so. Especially after week 8's stinker!Had to be headlining the buy low for QB's with his upcoming schedule, right?
Statistically the worst game of his career (lowest QBR, completion percentage, completions, etc) and he still put up 12+ points (more if your league doesn't account for turnovers). While last night was frustrating, it also showed why he's a great fantasy QB because of his legs. Now that he is fully healed, he will run it close to 10 times/game going forward. And if his passing game improves at all (which it obviously will), he will be a viable starter every week with the potential for those 40 point games. Hard to sit the guy even after last nights embarrassment. IMOFrustrating as a fantasy player. He's either really good or really bad, and I would have thought we would see the "really good" version last night at home vs the Saints.
Smith's really not going to address any of the issues with this teamI know panther fans don't want to hear it but Newton misses Smith. I was so happy last night that Smith wasn't around to dig Carolina out the fire like he has so many times before. It was a big mistake to get rid of him. Thrilled they did.
I know Cam owners are less enthralled.
The offensive line is made of undrafted FAs, now three of them are out, so they have undrafted rookie FAs. The offensive coordinator has issues (though he was remarkably better last night compared to last week) and the QB is scrambling all over the place trying not to get killed. Factor in the accuracy problems when Cam IS protected and I'm not sure how Smith is a significant help to this team, this year.

He's turning into a Vick basically. Now that he's in his 4th year, it getting safer to say that he's a great athlete/runner, but may never be a good enough pocket thrower to get his team to the next level. From a fantasy standpoint, he'll mostly have to do it with his legs to have a lot of value.
Smith was a significant factor because I saw it with my own two eyes. Cam would throw the ball up and Steve Smith would go get it, period. Yeah the WR corps is next to nothing after KB but the Panthers have lacked in that area for years. And the oline may stink but again I have seen Cam under a mad rush just chuck it up to SS.Smith's really not going to address any of the issues with this teamI know panther fans don't want to hear it but Newton misses Smith. whats the other option? Let him walk? Are they really going to pay this guy huge money?
if the cats don't pay him, the Bills/Jets/Texans/Titans/Rams will. He's worth at least Cutler money, he may get more than Kap.whats the other option? Let him walk? Are they really going to pay this guy huge money?
This is the summary on Cam right now IMO. He needs Techmo-Bowl-like passing lanes to have any shot at completions. Otherwise he's throwing these side arm zippers that probably have a little knuckle ball action to them. He needs some serious work on quarterbacking skills.Cam is not an accurate passer. He also doesn't have much touch; actually no touch.
Bad combination when you play QB. From what I've seen this year I would bench him. I really mean that.
D. Anderson has looked way better IMO, even if it has been mop up duty.
Take those legs away & he wouldn't even hold a clipboard. I'm a frustrated owner, but he has shown me nothing this year.
I think he's fine for FANTASY football purposes. His desire to play Superman for the cameras will always push him to call his own number in scoring position, so in leagues where higher points are awarded for TD's scored (vs passing TD) he's good to go. Quite honestly, if it comes down to him attempting passes in the red zone, Carolina's chances of scoring are better with him running.I have no choice but to keep starting him in my two-QB league. I just have to hope he has enough big games left and the rest of roster picks him up during the bad weeks.

For real football purposes I wouldn't go clearing a spot in the trophy case for a Lombardi anytime soon.

This was a couple of years ago. Cam's regressed. I can assure you that if Cam is throwing the ball where Benjiman at 6-5 can't get it, Smith's not going to be able to get it. I don't disagree that Smith could help this team, but it's not going to be in the way you believe. I didn't like the way it went down with Smith leaving. I didn't want to see him go, but him on this team isn't going to fix the o-line issues, Cam's accuracy issues, the offensive play calling, or lack of production from the RBs...he's just not.Smith was a significant factor because I saw it with my own two eyes. Smith basically helped coach Cam up when he first came into the league, he had big games in that first rookie year with Cam and he was his security blanket. Panther fans are loathe to admit it but it's true, it was a mistake to let him go (salary issues aside because I know Carolina has been in a hole there...). I was so happy knowing Steve wouldn't be coming out of the woodwork with some late 4th quarter snag to revive his team with his play and attitude. The man is a warrior.
Smith was a shell of himself in the Shula system and that was with better situations on the o-line and rb positions. Balt is using him exactly as he should be used. Shula didn't use him that way.

Cam is making some bad throws but he's rushing everything. he's used to getting drilled within seconds behind the worst o-line in NFL history.
Doesn't matter....they went from undrafted free agents (except Kalil) to undrafted rookie free agents after injury....when the others come back, it's not going to be much of an improvement. DG went "cheap" on the oline in the off season and it's come back to bite him in the ###.When do their starters return on the OL?Their current O-Line is probably one of the worst to ever start an NFL game. They should all return soon, none of them are seriously hurt. Last night Carolina was playing a couple undrafted rookies and a retread journeyman vet. Having their LT out (who just moved there this season and doesn't really fit) and both Guards out would be a killer for any teams line, especially for Carolina who has no depth on the o-line.When do their starters return on the OL?Their current O-Line is probably one of the worst to ever start an NFL game. Yeah, they are. They are not well managed. Are they really going to pay this guy huge money?
That would be the smart move. The goal is to win Super Bowls. No team will win a Super Bowl with this guy.whats the other option? Let him walk? Are they really going to pay this guy huge money?
The word 'Shula' on his resume. The question should be is how does Shula still have a job in the NFL. The most boring O Coordinator around.
Really? Put him on Chicago and I think that team is cruising to a division title. That would be the smart move. The goal is to win Super Bowls. No team will win a Super Bowl with this guy.whats the other option? Let him walk? Are they really going to pay this guy huge money?
Not even close. The Falcons own that distinction. 4 starters gone for the year. Street FA's starting for them. If the Panthers OL was that bad, they would have had these guys that the Falcons signed off the street, already starting for them.Their current O-Line is probably one of the worst to ever start an NFL game. It's beyond awful.

The WRS would need to be about 3 feet taller to catch sCam's errant throws.Really? Put him on Chicago and I think that team is cruising to a division title. That would be the smart move. Funny because I heard many times that you don't trade a QB like Cutler, now he's holding Chicago back.Really? Smiff sucked last year. His issues this year probably stem most from his offseason injuries. Domino effect. The line is not good, but the line was not good last year too. This is not a new thing. He declined somewhat when Chud left, and he's declined even more without Steve Smith.

He cannot deal with losing, we've all seen that. No need to "accept" losing, but you do have to deal with it.Ron Rivera on why Cam Newton is pressing: 'Because he wants to win ...'

Unless jersey sales are enough to outweigh the possibility that he could continue to get worse, I would make him earn it.
Pretty simple....the GM took a gamble and went really cheap on the O-line (depending on who you listen to, Gross was asked to "retire") and signed Hardy to a franchise tag. Obviously, it blew up in their faces. So now, the o-line is all undrafted free agents (minus Kalil) or guys who were at one time defenders and their backups are undrafted free agents...some of them rookies. The drafted rookie is hurt as well as the third year guy. Train wrecks are plentiful here in CLT.iamkoza said:what's up with the left side of his line? if i recall from Thursday he had 2 undrafted rookies playing LT and LG? if teams can get pressure on him rushing 4 like the saints did its going to be impossible for him to produce big fantasy games against 7 in coverage... especially given cam's trouble with accuracy as of late
