QB Cam Newton, Retired (1 Viewer)

So didn't see much of the game but based on game log looks like they are back to running Newton? Did he get a lot of his yards on one big broken okay or was it more of a concentrated effort and consistent gains?

He started out mostly the same and not running, toward the second half it was like he flipped a switch and was back to running regularly. I don't remember any one big play. The 12 TD run was one of the first runs and he never really looked back.

Yeah nothing too big, but a lot of consistent 6-8 yarders. Was able to watch most of it, and while he was running he didn't seem like he had his big boy wheels back on just yet, a little slower than what I remember, but still good enough to rack up 100+.

He did the same to Olsen. And it was absolutely blatant. Apparently this isn't anything new for him. He should be suspended at least for intentionally trying to injure those players.
If guys still play like this now with 20 cameras on them and a 24/7 news/twitter cycle, I can't imagine what it was like in the 70s.
I have met with several players from that era. Every dirty trick you can think of was used. Eye gouges, shots to the groin, twisting legs and arms after tackles in the pile. It was WWE but for real. All they were missing was folding chairs.

Cam Newton - QB - Panthers

The Panthers installed more running plays for Cam Newton in the practice week ahead of Sunday's tie with the Bengals.

Newton ran the ball 17 times in Week 6 for 107 yards and one touchdown. He had just 14 rushing attempts in the previous four games combined. "I feel like I ran him too much, and yet I didnt run him enough," OC Mike Shula said. Newton still isn't 100 percent healthy, according to the Panthers, and he got banged around in Cincinnati, but he was easily the team's best option as a runner with Darrin Reaves and Fozzy Whittaker as Carolina's healthy running backs. Expect 6-8 carries weekly for Cam with Jonathan Stewart nearing full health.

Fozzy was very solid until he aggravated the quad injury.

I know it's Cowherd, but did anyone catch his interview of Dilfer with respect to Cam? :lmao:

If not....here start at 1:58

Wonder what his thoughts on Wilson are :oldunsure:

It took Dilfer 14 seasons to get 20k yards passing. In 4 Cam has 12k. In 4 years Cam has a total of 100 TDs. Dilfer took 14 years to get 113. Dilfers QB rating is 70.2 career. Cams is 87. I think maybe Dilfer should address what the excuse for his low production was? He certainly was never asked to carry a team except as a joke. I don't know what his beef is with Cam other than he looks foolish for his previous statements about Cam. Cam is everything he never was. A dynamic player who can take over a game with both his legs and his arm. Dilfer not so much.

Feels an awful lot like a sell-high. That Cincy D is just not what it was last year. I think there will be a fair amount of shootouts involving CIncy this season, and last week was one of them.

He's the quintessential "get off my lawn" old dude that's angry the game passed him by. I'm sure being known as the QB on a team that won a SB despite him still burns to.

Heck you or I could have won that Superbowl at QB. He had 150 yds passing, 0 yds rushing on 1 attempt but he did manage to throw one of his rare touchdowns.

I don't think anyone is buying. Prior to this week I had a deal for Manning on the table and he preferred Austin Davis over Cam. Doubt perception has changed that much in a week.

As an owner, I'm thrilled that he had all those rushing attempts. If healthy I think he is back to top 6 ROS and no way anyone is paying that value for him.

How much value does Cam lose if Kelvin Benjamin is out with a concussion? Is it comparable to Stafford without Mega? Or does Cam's running ability nullify that?

This should be Newton's best fantasy season, simply because Carolina's defense stinks and the team actually needs to lean on him to put up points.

I'd be surprised if he surpasses his first two years in the league. Completely different OC and philosophy than under Chud.

his passing stats should be better - which given his receivers is downright impressive.

but you're right that his total FF points probably won't beat his first seasons, he won't run for 14 TDs again.

There was a laundry list of things he needed to work on in his passing. That list has greatly shrunk in the last couple years. He still holds the ball too long which leads to absolute darts on just about all his throws. He's plenty capable of the touch pass, but that comes with anticipating. I think that's something he still has to work on. His passing stats are certainly on the upswing and he's becoming a lot more comfortable in the pocket, but his first instinct is to run (still). We need to keep in perspective this is his 5th season of any real football. He had one year at Auburn and is on year 4 in the NFL. He's still learning...both mentally and physically.

I've just bought into the Newton business. Chronic QB trouble and loaded at WR meant I traded Sanders for him.

The remaining schedule looks really really juicy, he looks to be over his ankle trouble and Benjamin has proved to be an immediately great outlet for him.

Hoping for a big performance this weekend in his first game for me.

My league values WR very highly and I doubt Sanders would pull Cam in a deal. (irrelevant to me as I have them both, but still - nice deal)

just traded cousins and fred jackson for him. hope he keeps running like last week
WTF? unless that's redraft, that's a steal.

I play in a ten team re-draft league. The owner drafted Rodgers AND Cam Newton. Not only that, but for some reason he had also picked up Romo off the waiver wire around week 3 and was sitting on three QBs !

I really didn't want to give up Sanders, but RG3 screwed me and Eli's inconsistencies had me flapping. I decided to hopefully remove the weekly QB Russian roulette, made easier by the fact that I also have Dez and Jordy at WR.

I know, pointless waffle about my league but there's the background re the trade for you.

Rotoworld:

Cam Newton completed 17-of-31 passes for 205 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Carolina's 38-17, Week 7 loss to the Packers, adding seven rushes for 41 yards.

Newton's score was a 13-yard strike to Kelvin Benjamin deep into garbage time. The Panthers couldn't get the ball moving early, while injuries to LT Byron Bell and RG Trai Turner led to serious protection issues. The Panthers just never got in sync, though Newton continued to look the best he ever has as a passer, standing tall and delivering the ball on a rope. Newton was also rugged as a runner for the second-consecutive week, and is firmly back into dual-threat mode. He gets a stiff Week 8 test, as the Seahawks will be traveling to Charlotte.

Anyone sitting him vs Seattle?

I think I'll probably keep him in the lineup because it's a home game. This could turn out badly though.

I was tempted to play him as its at home, but I've been able to take Tannehill off of the WW this week, so most likely putting him in my lineup as he has JAX

If Cam's so good why do they keep putting Anderson in after the score is against the Cat's. I didn't think he look so good this last week, and play calling was awful. I don't like the value from FF aspect when they pull the QB in garbage time, when that team is behind and the pickings are easy.

 those are my two QBs in my main dynasty league.

Probably rolling with Cam but fully prepared to kick myself for it.

Well at least if I go with Tannehill, we won't both end up screwed. Or we still might. Dammit.

Seattle is 21st ranked D against QBs according to ESPN. Last year is last year. I'm keeping him in. Hoping for 250/1-2 and 70/0-1.

The game was over. There is no use in having your franchise QB, who is still recovering from ankle surgery, hurt in garbage time. Let your backup get some reps behind the line with two guys who had 20 pro snaps between them before Sunday when they had to come in.

Put him in this week and ride him with confidence!!! The wheels are already halfway off the bus, and Cam is about to smoke a cruise missile right at them!

We are at the half way point of the season. I made the mistake of dropping Brady in one of my leagues earlier when many of us wrote him off . I won't do the same with Cam. Big 2nd half IMO. Talent, schedule, and history.

Had Tannehill in for him just there, but plan on starting him every game from here on out. His schedule looks pretty good from here on out
