QB Cam Newton, Retired (2 Viewers)

They were both in coach. So I doubt that guys seat was any more expensive than Cam's was. Just had some more leg room. Now there are lots of reasons the guy may have turned him down but difference in seat cost seems to be pretty unlikely as the reason.
Ah. Didn’t know they were both in coach

The Charlotte Observer's Brendan Marks writes Cam Newton (shoulder) is "slated to be a full participant" when training camp opens.

That was always the goal after Newton underwent shoulder surgery in January, and he looked to be right on track when he was cleared to throw during last month's minicamp. Nothing can be taken for granted, but it appears as if Newton will be 100 percent well before Week 1, making him a great value at his current draft cost.

Man All or Nothing made me love this guy. I always thought people who disliked him were overreacting to a few things about him that triggered them--his ridiculous fashion, his healthy ego, leftover controversy from his college years. But what a good dude. Want him to win a SB now.

Think Cam has a very good year this season. He is definitely on my list of QBs to target (if I don't reach a bit for Andrew Luck)

The Charlotte Observer calls the "return of Cam Newton's deep ball" the "biggest surprise" of Panthers camp.

Per reporter Brendan Marks, 30-year-old Newton has made a "quick turnaround" after he was noticeably wincing on deep attempts late last season. The return of Newton's deep ball would be well timed with both D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel looking like 2019 breakout candidates. Currently being drafted as a bottom-barrel QB1, Newton could be a title-winning pick in re-draft leagues.

Cam Newton completed 4-of-6 passes for 30 yards before exiting Carolina's Week 3 preseason game against the Patriots with a foot injury.

Newton was under duress for most of the night, taking two sacks on three series played. The injury occurred on the second takedown while Newton was caught scrambling around the pocket. Avoiding the active/PUP list coming off his second shoulder surgery in three years, it's unfortunately another potential setback for the 30-year-old after he had reportedly made a "quick turnaround" on his deep ball in camp. The Panthers should have an official update before the weekend. Either way, it's undoubtedly the last we've seen of Newton in the preseason.

Either way, a best case of "a few weeks", and possibly a much worse "a few months" if it is a Lisfranc.  Those are tricky though, some come back faster than others.

Regardless, this is big news with those targeting Cam in their drafts, even as a best case, he has to slide down a few notches, unless it comes out tomorrow its not serious.

(Which I hope, for HIM)

Ron Rivera says Cam Newton is in a walking boot but didn’t provide more details. Says he doesn’t ask for injury details until after he meets with the media so he hasn’t gotten that far yet.

Most recent update says sprained foot.

I'm honestly having a tough time going into the season with him as my QB1.  30 years old with shoulder injury last season.  Now a foot sprain for my running QB.  It's gotta add up at some point.

Reportedly his shoulder has looked great.

fortunately, he doesn’t throw with his ankle.

I still like him at his ADP.

Agreed, he is as cheap as they come, when it could well develop into a league winner.

B-U-T , if it affects his rushing and takes away some of his goal line plunges, that I don't want any part of him this year.

Sure this is a quick reaction (Over reaction maybe???)  but lets face it, there's plenty of QBs this year we can grab.

I hate saying QB is "deep" like other monkeys who over use this term, but QB,  well...............  QB is NOT a shallow position this season.   :excited:

And there’s like 17 days until the season, so...

It’s like “moist - people hate the word, but when I’m eating cake I’m not going to say, “wow, this cake is really not dry!”

moist it is. QB is deep this year.

But he does run with it.  As a QB that gets a lot of his value from his wheels, this could slow him down.  It's probably nothing, but it's definitely worth keeping an eye on and if I'm drafting in the next few days, I'll knock him down a few slots.

Well I never minded referring to any of my exes as "moist", but thats uh a little different.    :excited:

Thats my point about QBs.  There are plenty we can "get by" with. Part of that is if you choose to truly wait late into drafts, the hope is you want to be happy and LOADED with talent at the other skill positions. (acquiring other strong RBs and WRs with the earlier pick you "would" have spent on a QB, in theory)

Many analysts don't quite it break it down as often as they should.  The guys in my leagues are quick to "adjust" and if you aren't careful you can find yourself starting someone at QB you aren't happy with, or even worse,  you have someone you aren't truly happy with at QB, AND things don't exactly fall your way at the other positions too. It can happen, and my biggest draft last year went exactly like this, and I learned a long slow lesson about trotting out less than stellar QBs......and a few of my other players didn't do as I had hoped for.  But thats another story.

Clear your inbox brother.  I was going to send you a PM yesterday about ordering some hot sauce, and it said you were "unable to receive PMs".

You still got that "buy one bottle get 2 cases FREE" special going on right?     :football:

Just kidding, but I'm looking to order a couple cases like I did last year, once things die down here in a couple weeks. (I even won a bottle or two in his FG contest last year, or the year prior, can't remember) You going to do that again this season?  I'm in if so.

NOTE TO THE OTHER MEMBERS HERE - His hot sauce is legit.  Plenty of flavors, and all the types I tried were good. You won't be disappointed if you order some.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Cam Newton has been diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain.

The Panthers are "cautiously optimistic" Newton will be ready for the Week 1 opener against the Rams. Cam's injury in Thursday's preseason game made hearts skip a beat, but he appears to have avoided anything serious. Newton will be an obvious QB1 against the Rams.

According to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, Cam Newton (foot) is expected to return to practice in some capacity on Monday.

Newton exited Thursday's preseason action with a mid-foot sprain, though his MRI and X-ray results showed no sign of a serious injury. The former MVP was seen in a walking boot as recently as Saturday, but GM Marty Hurney remains confident he'll be ready for Week 1 against the Rams. Kyle Allen, Taylor Heinicke and rookie Will Grier would be the primary candidates to replace Newton under center, though it shouldn't come to that.

Cam Newton (foot) worked off to the side at Monday's practice.

Newton wasn't dressed for drills, which has to come as a mild disappointment after reports suggested he'd be back at practice Monday. Instead, the former MVP was limited to working out with a trainer off to the side. Newton shed his walking boot over the weekend and still anticipates being ready for Week 1. Fantasy owners feared the worst when Newton went down with a left foot injury in Thursday night's preseason game against New England, though fortunately the ninth-year signal-caller escaped with just a sprain.

Speaking Tuesday, Panthers coach Ron Rivera said the team is not concerned about Cam Newton's (foot) status for Week 1.

"There’s no doubt in my mind," was Rivera's response when asked if Newton would be ready to face the Rams on Sept. 8. Newton figures to do very little in practice until next Wednesday, but fantasy owners can leave him locked into their starting lineups.

According to ESPN Panthers reporter David Newton, Cam Newton (foot) did not appear limited in the portion of practice open to the media on Monday.

GM Marty Hurney declared Newton "good to go" for the team's opener Sunday versus the Rams. Cam sprained his foot during the Panthers' dress rehearsal game at Foxboro two weeks ago, though his Week 1 status was never in any real jeopardy. The former MVP struggled while playing through a shoulder injury most of last year but looked more like himself this summer. Newton is a locked-in QB1 whenever he takes the field.

Maybe it was just a bad week one.  Maybe his shoulder is good and he's not going to have issues throwing deep.  But if he's also not going to run as much in order to protect his shoulder, that's a decent amount of his value going away, no?  I'm nervous about that part and thinking I may want to get off this wagon while there are still a couple decent QBs on the wire.

Guy was injured last year and performed poorly trying to play through it, arguably the main reason why the team collapsed down the stretch.

Still looks like he's battling shoulder issues, and now this foot injury.

I feel for him as he's trying to be a warrior, but would be very nervous that we're about to see a repeat of last year.

Hard to drop him, but if there are meaningful options on the wire, I would be definitely thinking about it.

Couple years ago Cam had a terrible first few weeks and went on to tear it up the rest of the year.

Not saying I'm not concerned, but no way am I getting off this ride so soon.

If he looks horrible tonight I may be looking at picking up a #2, but even if he does I'm not letting him go that easily.

I'm in.  too much invested in two leagues.

Cam Newton completed 25-of-51 passes for 333 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions in the Panthers' 20-14, Week 2 loss to the Bucs.

Newton attempted only two rushes and lost a fumble on one of them. His 333 yards were as empty as you will ever see, as the Panthers ventured across the 50-yard line nine separate times only to come away with zero touchdowns. Looking like he was at the dentist's office, Newton was missing throws on the rare occasions the Bucs' pass rush wasn't immediately in his face. Newton did uncork some "deep balls," but his accuracy was noticeably lacking. He (barely) undershot Curtis Samuel on what could have been a 75-yard touchdown in the first quarter. The duo had to settle for a 44-yard grab. The only pass catcher Newton appeared truly in sync with was longtime security blanket Greg Olsen. Coming off major shoulder surgery, 30-year-old Newton has only five rushes for -2 yards through two games. The lack of a running threat would make Newton a completely different quarterback in fantasy. It's tempting to label Newton a QB2 for Week 3, but he has a gorgeous road matchup in Arizona.

I thought he looked awful last week but attributed it to rust... after this week. I’m almost convinced he’s just done.

No cam smiles, sparks, nothing. It’s literally give CMC the ball or throw a half assed pass.

If you look back thru this thread you will see other seasons where Cam started slowly then broke out. I think the staff needs to let Cam do Cam, meaning encouraging him to run and get physical. If it means a shorter career, so what? The Cam they are getting now is not winning QB play.

yeah, without running he's an awful QB.  CAR needs to tell him to run whenever the opportunity presents itself.  He'll never be a good passing QB with his shoulder injury.

Heard Rivera justify not running Cam at the GL at the end of the game and on 4th and 1 earlier due to preserving him for the season. While I won't say that they were bad decisions I will say the plays they called in lui of running Cam were at best sub optimal.

At this point Cam doesn't seem 100% "right", I see a lot of people saying he's toast, I'm not ready to say that but something's off at this point, hopefully he can turn it around.

They tried to change how he throws the ball. They don't let him run anymore. I think that's what is not right. I think it's too much in his head the non running restrictions. I have a feeling they will change course and let him do his thing and we'll see the old Cam again.
