QB Cam Ward, TEN (2 Viewers)

I have fond memories of refering to Cam Newton as Super Cam until he wasn't.

Ready for a new Super Cam. Really like what I see from him as a player, so far. Get this kid some support, Titans!

"Time on task" as McCourty said it was what I've been saying really.
(He's got plenty of other thoughts in video...me rambling here)
They have to help Cam til Lockett, Dike, and Elic are more in sync.
Oliver and Van were there since day one and there's a clear rapport. If they're pushing the rookies ya can't forget Cam. They have to sprinkle in those he played most with. If we can see it, then how's Cam feel? Plus is he taking longer? Audibling differently? There needs to be some sorta subbing to help him

Always so funny to see the juxtaposition between game tape guys and analytics guys. I’m certainly neither, but as a life long avid football fan, he passes the eye test to me.

In Wk 1 vs the Broncos, Cam Ward targeted WRs downfield (10+ air yds) on 42.9% of his attempts, the 7th-highest rate among QBs in Wk 1. Ward completed just 1 of his 12 downfield attempts (8.3%) for 16 yards. Ward fared better targeting receivers under 10 air yds, completing 11 of his 13 attempts (84.6%) for 96 yds, and 7.4 yds per attempt.

This is atrocious.
Rrrreally badly want Oliver in today but it appears he won't be. His exceptional my ball mentality is contagious and they really need that to permeate. If he was gonna be faded, it should have been further into the season.

Gunnar can get this rolling too so I'd like to see him involved early and maybe he rips one away from a DB.
Elic can and does but he played a bit timid.

Ya know that dopey "I messed up" smile teenagers have? Ridley had that last week and it irritates me to see that in a grown man. Elic was all smiley after two non catches.

None of them are good enough to be all cute and there's no way Cam's downfield throws have those stats if they're getting after it.

Ridley is an elite athlete and blessed for sure and a big influence. Watch him, watch the others.

Cam's passes are not way off that those stats should ever happen.

No one is playing T-ball and running the wrong way as Dad cheers anyway

Cam Ward is the king of the "No, no, no...YES!" pass.

@RightStepAdv
Fun and flashy, has not been shown to win consistently in the @nfl. Less of this and more consistency as the year goes right?

Dane Brugler
That's the question mark with Ward. His loose play style is part of what makes him effective, but time will tell if he can cut down on the reckless habits.

The improbability of this exemplifies what I've been harping on.
Just play the guys Ward is used to- at least some. He clicked with Oliver day one, Ridley took just a bit, Van was early too. (Gunnar)
Elic was later but it doesn't matter. They see eye to eye.
No WR in the NFL is still running that route except for the guys above. QB takes off running right, he's running.
Elic knew!
Brandon Allen and ordinary QBs maybe it's not a big deal but it's huge with a playmaker free style guy.

He can get comfy with Dike and Lockett and things can develop but for now they have to give him the guys he can win with in the playground.

And Ridley isn't the same guy as the summer. He's not trying for every catch and coming back for it and he doesn't look like Cam's buddy anymore. He's always been this way. Camp Ridley is awesome. Regular season Ridley is meh.

Give Cam his weapons

Ward had a very Levis like play that was disturbing. As he was going down, he flipped it forward.
I'd bet $ that'll be on social media a lot

CBS has a wrong stat going around. It's nitpicky. Cam has been sacked a ton, just not the most

Cam Ward has been sacked 11 times through his first two career games, tied for fifth-most since at least 1970, per
@NFLonFOX
research:

David Carr/David Norrie: 15
David Klinger: 14
Archie Manning: 13
Cam Ward/Greg McElroy/Steve Young/Spencer Rattler/CJ Stroud: 11

Yesterday was how Cam did run backwards a good ways on his great pass for a TD.
I thought they were coaching that out of him after the big loss of yards sack week one, is it a concern?

Cam said we practice on grass why don't we play on grass.

It was meh uninteresting

During his presser, he asked for/ took all the blame today.
Its a beautiful thing and a sad thing for such a young guy.
Today's presser should be saved and distributed to team leaders for reference.

He said something like- I have to get rid of the ball quicker to help the OL. You see the edge get past them, I see me needing to get it out faster.

He can throw it better. He can work with guys. They can put more time in.

OMG it was so good ...and kinda sad too

Callahan was asked about the screens (which have been awful) and said he thinks Cam's trying to get guys in lanes.

It's definitely Cam's fault those are dopey play calls

As he was guarded to (lie and) not say anything about the trade and only positive about the play caller change, he blamed the rookie everyone adores. What a face plant.

Stick a fork in him

Cam hurt his ankle was my first experience with his new stardom. People asking me why I didn't mention.

He tweaked it and limped for a sec and continued running and moving around and had no limp. It was a sincere nothing moment. It happens every day many times a day at practices.

The outcry...now I see reporters having to explain no brace and not taped up and looks good.
It's kinda interesting really

There's a bunch of negativity.
First time he's not the shiny new penny.

I don't see it but when I rewatch the game I'll try to not wear rose colored glasses

The NFL and the media are great at ruining young QBs. Tennessee had to know Ward was going to take some time. Tennessee should have let a vet start the first 4-8 games of the year and then brought Ward in for the experience down the stretch.

Zach had this chart

They're not getting open
Idk why (for like years!) we don't discuss subbing for Titans WRs that don't get open. (Their A.S.S scores also back this up) Four weeks in, I would have played everyone and have been asking CBs if they want a chance.

THere are so many sports that getting open is a vital integral step that must be accomplished. I can't ....it frustrates me to no end

Blake Beddingifled wrote a piece about Cam's arm angle and feet being poor.
Jared Stillman took this to YouTube and his Sirius radio show

I personally don't care.
I was raised on the teachings of the ultra strict John Wooden and then people pointing out Michael Jordan, Magic, or Bird did some single thing with improper technique. I think most of the world had the same experience as I. I mean we had what we had on TV and everyone mentioned was such a legend.

I watched Bird lead the NBA in a zillion categories as he shot wrong. I learned to leave the window a crack open for greatness. Others still to this day hammer home the technique and I do know it's beneficial to present that as a coach- idk that it matters as a fan. It's not like I have a problem with the on air coaching legends either. They're gems too.

Cam Ward hasn't done squat and neither has Jeanty.

Jeanty uses an improper stance and doesn't do well. He rocked in college and now in the NFL with the improper stance.

Ward (while scrambling or stationary and avoiding a pass rusher) can flick the ball sidearm and make it go a zillion yards on target threw two defenders.

I think these are two- leave Bird alone- techniques. The results are wow and are we seeing the forest for the trees? Isn't the goal to have great results? Because they've already got that

It's hard to have a warm and fuzzy about any Titan player, but in dynasty leagues the goal is long term. Having said that, it's been awhile since I was excited about Titan offensive players. If there is one it's Ward.

Yesterday discussion was of Ridley and him not in sync and late last night I was on game pass or NFL+ and holy geesh why play him?

Ridley is adjusting on snap n throws and slants and simple one cut routes. Why? Ya just go and it's there. There is no thinking. This is the easiest of sport things to do, it sets up athleticism versus athleticism which is a challenge but the route itself is beyond easy.

Since the sort isn't good always I saw some Gunnar plays and fell into a rabbit hole of his. He and Ward couldn't be better timed or more in sync. I mean it's just wow. He's pushing, or putting his back into some DB, or shielding with an arm up at the perfect time and Cam turns right then towards him. It's such perfect timing. With absolutely no one getting open, if he plays more or we get closer to the deadline where Chig could be traded, I'm all over Gunnar. It really stands out because everyone stinks but...IDC at least it's something, some well he can go to when no one is open.

The sidearm angle is impactful in the NFL. Balls get batted down at line of scrimmage.
But he's not stupid about it. Those plays usually look like "what were you thinking." He does it like Mahomes and some old guy years ago- he's scrambling and just he and the defender or he steps up and is sidearm to get it between the two.
When others have done it they're like three four yards back and firing at the line and all dopey looking. This seems sporty sort of adjusting.
I'm sure not going to advocate for a short stop to jump off one foot on the base and fire it to first while reaching out to avoid the base runner, but it's also got a "I see why he's doing that" vibe and makes a nice looking double play.

Levis has me keyed up for stupid throws. I don't think Ward is

I was looking at team RB targets and noticed the Titans dead last with just 9.

On a team with a really good receiving RB, not a lot of good receiving talent in general, where everything downfield has been a struggle and the young QB could really use a few easy completions.

This is an example of coaching malpractice.

Something is weird about the way Cam's ball spins IMO. It seems to have a slight wobble or some sort of tip misalignment as it travels. Look closely to notice, but I wonder if that combined with how hard he throws makes it challenging for some of the receivers to catch balls that aren't placed perfectly, the case with many/most of his throws right now. Dude throws with power. Over time, either he will find more touch or his receivers will adjust, but that could take a while with so much else also going wrong currently. Will be telling how the team rallies around him (including possiblly not at all) after last weekend's comments. I could see it breaking either way, but think the odds are he rallies them this weekend and well beyond. Let's see.

Cam Ward completed 21-of-39 passes for 265 yards and an interception in the Titans’ 22-21, Week 5 win over the Cardinals.

Ward played a game that will baffle box-score watchers. The Titans offense got the ground game going on the first drive, but the passing game struggled early. Ward overthrew Julius Chestnut on a wheel route to miss a chunk gain in the second quarter and failed to connect with Chimere Dike on multiple deep targets. He took a big fourth-down sack at the end of the first half and could not get the passing game going outside the fourth quarter. He threw a pair of accurate deep balls to Calvin Ridley late and led a pair of scoring drives with tight-window throws, slicing the Cardinals up for a game-winning drive. Ward threw an interception in the fourth quarter that was then fumbled into a Titans touchdown on a wild play. For fantasy managers, he only gets credited with the interception, but the rookie certainly showed resilience late for his first career win. Ward is a streamer quarterback only and ranks as a QB3 for Week 5 against the Raiders.

... great googly moogly it was an experience watching this game.

Cam Ward was 8/20 for 72 yards on the day. It had been downright miserable. He was bad. But then in those final three drives, in which the Titans scored 16 unanswered, Ward flipped a switch. He was 13/19 for 193 yards on those drives. He was a certified gamer out there. It was a live demonstration of why he was taken with the first overall pick: atozsports.com/nfl/tennessee-…

Everything I said and guys on radio and tape people said was true and finally finally they had a rhythm late and looked good with first time smiles and fist bumps of 2025.

The middle wasn't utilized and bang it to Gunnar in the post then hit Ridley running up the sideline on a fast break, and have Pollard trailing.

Nicely balanced and Cam was noticably in his element.

Most of the game-
Several plays where he had all day and no one was open
3-4 drops?
Dike open deep, twice, but they're still not in sync.
Announcers pointed out that after an Elic drop, he was eventually looking at an open Lockett and Dike and not throwing it. That point guard was sick of them not making a play off his pass.
Chig was off today. His blocking was bad bad and when he released as the dump guy, he was late. On one over the middle, he wasn't smooth with the shoulder bump go into route technique and he was late.
Ridley was maybe 2 for 6.
It was dreary.

Enormous difference late. Gunnar may need to be this team's Delanie

Didn't think of this with Titans history and lucky breaks but
"First time he found a way to win"
May be valid with hopefully a bright future ahead of him. I guess so

Trust and belief in one another coming up in Breers article too

Maybe Gunnar over Chig came up? Maybe Cam said he wants his boys more? Absolutely no idea and we probably won't know but at the same time- what would Ward and Ridley discuss? That's gotta be a fair guess.

The trust word has been used a ton the last week.
So him not throwing to Lockett and Dike...how does that move forward? The obvious difference in Gunnar (throw anytime) over Chig(must be wide open)?

I missed the GM angle the radio mentioned. Yeah he's filling those spots.

How does Callahan and Hardegree build on this for Ward? Restrepo elevated for a few plays? Spears at WR a little bit? We'll have to see-there are endless possibilities- but I think this is quite significant.

If Callahan can get a spark going here, if Ward can show quick growth...could be a real big week to tweak things

Here's a wonderful breakdown.
He says two missed throws and idk which those were.

People do not seem to understand how early Ward is chucking it. It's like they think he can wait n wait n wait.

7? minutes in-You can see Arizona switch to worrying about Gunnar and Chig, late it seems they're sure it's going to Elic...nope Ridley.

That working the center of the field opened everything up.

Cam (with a leading question) said he wants his 2 and 4 minute offense more often.

Callahan said he'd like to utilize that more. He went into the use of the FB and TE in spots and how it's no huddle etc.

They haven't exactly been in games to be winning and/or running this O much.

Still it's another way to say he wants his boys and Callahan (who isn't calling plays) seems in agreement to the switch
