QB Deshaun Watson, CLE (5 Viewers)

I'm guessing he needs the civil cases to be settled if he wants to get 0-4 games suspended.  Absent that, its too easy for Roger to cite "conduct unbecoming" and hit him with 8-16 games or suspended indefinitely.
I'm in this camp, 8-16 games, just a matter of time. I also will say since Watson isn't coming to Miami, I'm a lot more loose with the heavy gavel and what i'm saying is there is a small bias since Miami was put thru the ringer with his BS last season and were one of his dream teams scenarios.

Saints, Panthers, Falcons, Browns...what am i missing? Only 1 of these teams has what Watson desires, a Lombardi Trophy. Most of the teams that want him in reality are not much ahead of the Texans overall. Has to be humbling for him.

Maybe meaningful, maybe not: The Saints have now cleared enough cap space to be nearly $30 million under, per ESPN beat writer Field Yates.

Someone in the comments wrote that the Browns did something similar, but I don't have details on that.

EDIT: They'd need room for either Watson or Jameis Winston, thinking about it some more.
NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill reports the Saints met with Deshaun Watson a second time Wednesday night.

And per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Saints "have been the favorite from the start." With five picks in the top 120 in next month's draft and now the cap space to fit Watson's contract, the Saints have everything to get him. The only thing left to do is convince Watson to pick New Orleans. We should have a resolution to this before the weekend. The Browns, Panthers, and Falcons have also been linked to Watson.

it still blows my mind how this has changed directions and this guy has four teams drooling over him, willing to sell the farm, and pretend like none of this ever happened....and then try to spin it to their fan base...and the fan base buying it....IMO I wouldn't care how many years of losing my team has gone through, I would not want this guy as the face of my franchise....I would be really disappointed in my franchise mortgaging the farm for this dude...it reeks of desperation and that is not something I look for in leadership....the we don't care what you do as long as you help us win stuff is old, tired, and tough to get behind....

this is all assuming he "settles" his 22 cases and they don't just magically disappear somehow....I don't care what anybody says about it being easier and making more sense to "settle" them instead of fighting them....when you decide to settle you are basically admitting guilt....especially since those settlements will include non disclosures...I know many will spin it that that is not the case, and that's fine....

if he "settles" all these and with all the metoo stuff......I see a heavy suspension coming....and how teams are willing to pull the trigger without knowing what that is adds to that image of desperation.

I am also wondering how long it will take to individually settle 22 cases....seems like that could take awhile and if the NFL really does wait for all that dust to settle....how long are we looking at before they announce a suspension...

Apparently had a second meeting with Saints today.  While exciting, still not sure how I feel about this until terms of the trade are released.

Dynasty owners who held on to MT should be very happy with the thought of Watson going to NO....unless he's part of the package. ;)

Saw on Saintsreport that safety C.J. Gardener-Johnson removed all references to the Saints from some social media page of his (FB? Insta? Not sure).

EDIT: From his Twitter profile.

I'm trying to figure out which players NO could even send back along with three 1st rounders.  They have adjust a bunch of contracts, so you cannot send those players.

@MikeGarafolo

The #Browns have been informed they’re out of the running for Deshaun Watson, a source says. The team still views Baker Mayfield as their quarterback going forward. They told Mayfield’s agents at the Combine they’d only explore top-tier QBs such as Watson.

I don't think Watson will need to settle the cases to be able to go back to play. Many players have had civil lawsuits filed against them over the years, and the league generally has ignored them and looked the other way. I think the news hit at the wrong time of the NFL season last year, and teams were waiting to see if Watson was looking at multiple charges and jail time. Because he seems out of the woods on the criminal charges front, I don't think he will be looking at a lengthy suspension. I still think they will go with 6 games. At this point, in the eyes of the league, his biggest infraction was making the league look bad.

Ugh, please no.  He was a steal in what, the 4th rd and 1 of my favorite players on the defense.   Really need him with Jenkins being over the hill.

Have you seen anything about players that might be involved?
Tha Guru is on the right track above. To facilitate discussion, here are the Saints players still on the squad that are still on their rookie deals for the 2022 season:

2019 Draft
Round 2, Pick 48: C Erik McCoy, Texas A&M
Round 4, Pick 105: DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Florida
Round 7, Pick 244: LB Kaden Elliss, Idaho

2020 Draft
Round 1, pick 24: Cesar Ruiz, C, Michigan
Round 3, pick 74: Zack Baun, LB, Wisconsin
Round 3, pick 105: Adam Trautman,TE, Dayton

2021 Draft
Round 1, Pick 28: DE Payton Turner
Round 2, Pick 60: LB Pete Werner
Round 3, Pick 76: CB Paulson Adebo
Round 4, Pick 133: QB Ian Book
Round 6, Pick 206: T Landon Young
Round 7, Pick 255: WR Kawaan Baker

Besides the guys Tha Guru named, I would think that any of the three linebackers above and DE Payton Turner, CB Paulson Adebo, and OT Landon Young could get moved.

Rumors are 2 of McCoy, Ruiz and CGJ.  If we give up McCoy, that would blow.
Agreed, though Ruiz is supposed to be more natural at center and could perhaps up his game by sliding inside. Still, we'd have to fill in a starting guard.

EDIT: I forgot that Ruiz started at center some last year, and underwhelmed. Moving McCoy is pretty risky, but I guess fortune favors the bold.

That would be a great deal for NO. None of those guys are that hard to replace.

I'd have been worried it was someone on the level of Ramcyzk or Lattimore.
McCoy and CJGJ are rock-solid starters. However, in the NFL it's a lot harder to get an elite QB than it is to get rock-solid starters at center and safety.

Yeah, Ruiz has underperformed.  His trial run at Center was meh at best.  He's still young though so you never know.

Feels like after being jilted on the dance floor, the Browns and Falcons might have a drunken hook up in the bathroom.

Would a Mayfield/draft picks for Ryan deal make sense?

Texans traded Corner Bradley Roby to the Saints last year for a 3rd. Be interesting if the Saints trade a different corner (or I guess CGJ is a safety?) back now as part of the package.

True.  But what picks are we giving up that we can’t replace them with young talent?  Losing Adeebo and Johnson who were both later round picks were be devastating in the short term.

This may have been addressed in here already, but would missing all of last year be considered as part of his punishment?  I know he was paid, but anymore missed games seems like it would be on top of a 17 game "suspension".

My guess is Falcons ride with Ryan, only player they'd have ate that monster dead money/cap hit for was Watson.

I don't know what the Browns will do.

No, the NFL does not consider “time served”, and he was paid during last year.

If the NFL takes any action it would be Independant if anything that’s happened already in terms of missed time.

Doubtful.  He still got paid 10 mil and that was the Texans not the league.

Probably not as mentioned by others. Had he been put on the Commissioners Exempt list he still would have been paid as well so wouldn’t be time served in that case either.
