QB Deshaun Watson, CLE (2 Viewers)

Too early for this Rodgers owner.

If I'm going to clog a roster spot getting ahead of the curve, what's an extra couple of weeks?

Or are you expecting Rodgers to bounce back?

Expecting is too strong of a term lol. Maybe hoping against common sense at this point.

I do like the matchup this week and week 9 against Detroit...and maybe week 11 vs the Titans. But other than that I'm done with Rodgers. I'll be checking streaming options to fill the gaps but won't look Watson's way until after week 10 likely but my league has tight rosters (bye week fill-ins take priority).

Regardless of who you believe or what he did, it's obvious this guy's moral compass is broken. Very good chance this goes down as the worst trade/contract in NFL history.

I think Russell Wilson already spiked the ball on worst trade/contract.
What Denver gave up for Wilson was lunacy from the jump. So far, easily the worst trade in history. But we're 6 weeks in and to be fair Nathaniel Hackett is easily one of the worst head coaches in NFL history. He needs to be fired. I'm not ready to say Russ is cooked yet, but something is seriously wrong. Missing wide open targets and not seeing blitzes is inexcusable for someone with his experience. Like, maybe see an eye doctor? It's maddening to watch.

On the contracts, Russ is getting 165M guaranteed, Watson 230M. Watson has not played an NFL game for a while now, I'm worried what the Browns are going to get when he steps back in. He's 6 years younger than Russ, so he's got that going for him.

In the end it might be an argument akin to what's worse, eating a dog turd or a horse turd lol? But don't forget, Browns also gave up 3 years of 1st round picks, Broncos gave up 2 years of 1st and 2nd rounders. Browns might be saying "hold my beer" on worst trade ever pretty dang soon.

I've got my popcorn ready, these are two very wild almost inconceivable situations. I have no idea what was going through these teams' heads.

So fellow Rodgers, Stafford, Brady, Wilson owners....is this the week to pick up Watson?
Brady owner in one league and I pulled the trigger dropping C Samuel. I have 5 solid WR's still plus Jameson on IR. So, with Brady in a possible downward trend some I had to jump a week or two early. In my other league going to drop either Tua or more likely Geno for Watson tmr. I'll address the bye week later.

Both my teams were late on the draw this year with QB's and TE's. Now working it. Been working it lol. Last year I had Josh Allen in both, which is ideal.

I never followed his career, always knew he put up big numbers though. I just looked at his 2020 stat line, per game: 301 yd/2 TD passing, 28 yd/0.2 TD rushing. That works out to around 23 ppg, which would put him at QB6 between Lamar and Kyler.

The Browns receiving core is at least as good as Cooks/Fuller/??. Chubb/Hunt are in another dimension compared to David Johnson and crew circa 2020.

Are we expecting Watson to immediately be a top 12 QB wk 13 and be a top 5-7 QB by wk 15 (playoffs) after a few weeks of shaking off the rust?

He seems like a great add for someone already without a top 5 QB if they have a bench spot to burn the next 5 weeks. For someone already with a top 5 QB Watson provides playoff insurance as well as keep away from other playoff teams.

I have Burrow and McPherson both on bye week 10 so was thinking of waiting until after (first waivers of week 11) to scoop Watson. Does that sound safe considering he can't start until week 13?

Other than BassnBrew and Team Smokin has anyone else made the move or seen him snatched in your leagues?

No one's touched him in my league. Aside from the stigma of doing so, I think the rust factor of missing almost 2 years can't be understated.
I got him as part of an offseason trade in a contract league, hoping to flip him mid-year (this was prior to the suspension length being known). He's on an expiring contract, so the longer suspension really killed his value, since he'll only be active for 2 weeks plus playoffs.

Finally moved him cheap because having him on the roster was blocking me from making other QB-related moves (due to some position-limit rules)

But according to the court filings, the woman had her allegations "considered -- and ultimately rejected" by Houston police, who interviewed her as early as April 2021. During a statement the woman made in November 2021 to a paralegal at the law firm of Rusty Hardin, Watson's Houston-based attorney, the woman said: "I wasn't scared, I wasn't intimidated. I didn't do anything I didn't want to do. I didn't do anything to where I didn't feel like it was safe," according to the court filings.

Obviously I’m not making a definitive statement because I haven’t really looked into it beyond the article but I don’t see how the case even has merit.

My leagues are all dynasty. He’s been sitting on roosters in all three throughout. Large leagues and one SF.

He was never getting dropped in dynasty - unless you have that one “principled” owner that doesn’t even want to benefit in anyway so he’d rather drop than trade. 😀

He hasn't been touched in my league either. Does anyone see any merit to picking him up if for no other reason than to prevent another owner from pulling off the (however unlikely) QB hail Mary? With the subpar fantasy QB play we're seeing, I've never seen QBs cycling on and off rosters like they are this year. I just have this dread I'm going to be facing him down the stretch and he's going to end my season.

So much for my plans to wait, some dickhead picked him up today. He has Kyler and Herbert for reference, I guess he went for the playoff insurance/**** block strategy.

I don't think he reads the Shark Pool but if he does and read my post above this morning, 🙂

See my post above for what could happen.

The guy who scooped him already has Kyler, is in 2nd place so well on his way to a playoff spot, and most of his RB/WR are top 5 so he isn't scouring the waiver wire just to fill his starting lineup each week. He absolutely picked up Watson for the sole purpose of playoff insurance.

If you have any teams that fit that profile and they are active on the wire then you may want to move sooner than later if you can afford the dead roster spot for 5 weeks.

Browns general manager Andrew Berry said he expects Deshaun Watson to play in Week 13 against the Texans.

Watson, barring any more legal issues cropping up in the next month, will be under center for Cleveland against his former team on December 4. Watson should be an upgrade over Jacoby Brissett despite his preseason struggles in Kevin Stefancki's offensive scheme. Watson completed 53 percent of his preseason passes for two touchdowns and two interceptions at 6.7 yards per attempt. Watson can be stashed in deeper 12-team formats and all superflex leagues.

It sure could. On the other end of the spectrum, if he wins one super bowl then it's the best trade ever even if his antics lead the team to get kicked out of the league forever.
The rare trade that can swing so far in either direction
Best trade ever is probably taking it a bit far. That's a lot of guaranteed money. I guess the question is how much is a Super Bowl Championship worth to a franchise these days? I honestly have no idea.

I'd say he'd pretty much have to turn Cleveland into a dynasty with multiple championships to call it a best trade ever. If he wins one in the next year or two, how long is his playing style going to last? How long is he going to keep his pecker in his pants? It's almost inevitable that Cleveland is going to be hurting on the back end of this. Guaranteed contracts may be the direction this is all going(I hope not), but this one was a WTF regardless of what happens. Just my opinion.
One super bowl to Cleveland is worth more than a championship anywhere else. So, as I said, one super bowl and it's the best trade ever

I did almost this exact same thing on waivers last night in our 14 team redraft. I have Allen. It's strictly for playoff insurance for an Allen injury and/or blocking other owners for using him against me. So, if you're out there thinking along the same lines, I would pick him up by next week at the very latest.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that QB Deshaun Watson is eligible to return to practice this week.

Watson will make his 2022 debut against the Texans in Houston. Although that game isn't until Week 13, Watson is now eligible to return to practice. Watson can be added in any shallow leagues where he remains available. The Browns' offense has been solid with Jacoby Brissett under center and Watson will provide an undeniable upgrade to their ability to put up points.

No one's touched him in my league. Aside from the stigma of doing so, I think the rust factor of missing almost 2 years can't be understated.

Assume this is redraft. And the hell with stigma and the holier than thou. I have him albeit as a backup to Mahomes. Agree on the rust part... He won't return until week 13 and let's say he needs at least two games (possibly conservative) to shake the rust and acclimate to this environment. Can you trot him out for the first week of fantasy play-offs? In my case, he is strictly an insurance policy. But I can see him letting people down...

I've been juggling QB streamers all year and fighting for a playoff spot. There's a good chance he starts for me week 13.

Insurance policy and possible starts for Watson. My team started slow at QB and now has Fields starting for three weeks now AND I have Watson as a Fields bye week 14 play, just one week of rust and I get to watch week 13. Fields also has some tougher matchups and I figure perhaps Watson could be a better start on a couple more weeks. Kinda like it actually lol.

Edit: so far my bench can support having 2 QB's. The Fields up coming bye week 14 plus Watson upside.

I've already penciled him in. Even if he's worse than Rodgers or Carr there's little downside.

Did you guys planning on playing him watch any of his preseason action? It didn’t exude confidence.
I would have expected Watson to be pretty rusty, plus 2 of his incompletions were awful drops by Schwartz.
Drops happen every game. No way on a competitive team would I be rolling with such a wildcard.

I wish you all good luck! I have a healthy amount of Cooper, so I am hoping for the best as well.

I'm sure the odds of this happening are not high BUT...
What happens if Rusty takes the field and isn't the same QB we saw in previous seasons?
And what if part of it is talent and a new offense and pressure he applies to himself and what if the last 5-6 games look the opposite of what you paid $250M to acquire?
And what if next season...
The possibilities are endless

Hope not. No one wants a Russell Wilson sequel.

The QB position is as much mental as it is physical. His body may be ok but if he’s not there mentally, it’s not going to work. I snagged him for home run potential but i have no idea how this experiment is going to work out.

In this case, 95% of fans across the league would like Watson to fail.
I’ll need him at the end of the season (Probably, SF with tannehill and Brady starting right now) but i won’t cheer for him.
