QB Jameis Winston, NYG (4 Viewers)

Yea I wouldn't start Winston against Denver this week. He isn't matchup proof yet.

The good news is that after Denver and Carolina, we have a bye and the rest of the schedule is full of bad defenses other than 2 or 3 games. And obviously the playoff schedule.
Play simean?

As someone who is streaming QB this week, I am considering him. I really wanted Dak but someone got him before me. The thing I am worried about with Siemen is that the Broncos will blow the Bucs out and he won't get the chance to throw much. I definitely wouldn't be concerned about him putting up #'s if they let him throw. Our defense just got torn apart by Case freaking Keenum.

And if jameis does play well that that would push the broncos to pass more in theory

I'm struggling with the same thing with Winston.  Last week I picked up Flacco and started him due to match ups and was burned by it.  Now he's got the Broncos and I think he's going to suck against them.  I foresee sacks, fumbles and INTs.  He may put up some decent yards and a TD or two but the turnovers and sacks will drop his score enough to keep him out of QB1 numbers.

I plan on putting Flacco in again but Siemien is an interesting start.  So far I'm rolling with Flacco but keeping an eye on Siemien.

That is true, but I don't see it happening. I think the Broncos pass rush will be relentless and force him into mistakes. I'm sure the Broncos will have Talib on Evans or double team him, so he'll either try and force it to him or have no one else to throw to because the rest of the receivers are trash besides Humphries, who will probably be guarded by Chris Harris.

The thing is I could see Siemian having a game like he had the first 2 weeks and the broncos still winning easily.  Jameis has a much higher ceiling

Me too.  I am about to pick up simean.  He's got tb, atl, and sd.

He's a good play during winston's bye.  And maybe better this week. Denver has been awesome this season.  Can't play Winston vs them can we?
:goodposting:

Hadn't looked ahead to consider upcoming schedule/bye. Siemian has three good match-ups (@TB/ATL/@SD) while Winston has DEN/@CAR/bye. I picked up Siemian and will likely start him this week, and obviously on Winston's bye. Would consider next week as well (although I think Carolina may no longer be a super scary match-up).

FYI, after the bye Winston's schedule gets significantly easier, with only @KC/SEA in Weeks 11-12 giving pause. And of course he has the two NO match-ups in the fantasy playoffs.

Yeah I know.  I may still play Winston @ car.  That's mnf

That's one of those "talent vs matchup" dilemmas. I tend to err on the side of talent, which would mean Winston. But get back to me next week if Siemian blows up again and I may feel differently.

lesson #1 for Winston owners (including me):

Do not start Winston on the road against good Ds. He's not there yet. I think he will be in a year or two, but not yet. All other situations I think he can hold his own and then some.

He's not ready for the broncos anywhere

That's true but I have a feeling Flacco is the safer pick overall this week.
Flacco was just dropped and I could start him over Siemian (and Winston). The thing is, everyone's been talking up Flacco all season because of his easy schedule, and he's underperformed for three straight weeks. Now if Jimmy G is healthy ...

(Sorry to hijack the thread, but I suspect a lot of Winston owners are going through the same thought process this week.)

I'm in the same boat. In my 2 QB league I have Eli vs. MIN & Jameis vs. DEN. So I'm going with Jameis & Flacco. I don't like the matchup for Jameis at all. I thought Flacco might have better numbers this year since they were killed with the injury bug last year. The team has had a really friendly schedule thus far and isn't doing much. Once they play stiffer competition the offense may bottom out.

I don't have Winston but I'd like to trade for him and here's the reason: weeks 14 & 16 he plays the Saints.

Hoping to pick up TE Brate this week to start against the hapless Panthers D. This 'generational' turd better not let me down.

How do you guys feel about him this week against the Panthers.  Everywhere I look he is rated as a QB2 for this week.  The Panthers were a strong defense that I was worried about.  After seeing what Ryan/Julio did to them last week I feel he could have a strong game.

I'd play him with confidence. Carolina's D hasn't been the same this year and obviously got torched last week. The Bucs D sucks so I expect this game to be a shootout where Jameis will be throwing a lot again.

Kind of forced to because the hold the fort with Siemian for a few weeks not panning out...

Feeling ok, though.  Obviously CAR has some issues in the secondary and as noted above, the volume has to be there at least, so even if he's like 300 3/3 or something, I'll take it.

Playing him (with not a lot of confidence) since Palmer is out.  I'm just hoping the "forecasted" Panthers D doesn't show up this week.  Saw an interesting stat that Winston has attempted the most passes this year of anyone.  Obviously this has only helped half the time...

Winston did ok in the two games against the Panthers last year when they had a dominant defense (thanks game log dominator!).  I think he'll be fine this week.

I'm playing Flacco over Winston this week.  Winston may have the higher upside but he has the much lower floor.  I'm taking the safer play here.

If you get rid of the INTs then he did alright but that's what good defenses do and I foresee him throwing more again this week.  I'm still not risking him and I'm starting Flacco.

Tampa has no running game.  They'll be throwing to keep up against Carolina's awful secondary and the Bucs line has protected Jameis pretty well.  I don't think using any QB's performance against Denver as a predictor of the future is wise.

CAR D is on pace to give up 21 more TDs than last year. ETA - and 2.6 ypaa than last year.

Now I'm seriously considering starting Winston

I know FBG has Flacco ranked higher than Winston this week and it surprises me. I own both and I'm starting Winston & Eli. The CAR defense has not looked good and the Bucs are going to have to throw the ball. TB doesn't' have a defense, and Anderson was actually mounting a comeback last week until he forced a ball and it went downhill from there. But that was an enormous uphill battle and he did decent. Against the TB defense, he could have a good day, which means lots of throwing for everybody.

But... I'm 11th out of 12 teams in my coaching ability... I've benched the 2nd most points this year. So what do I know?

I wouldn't be surprised if Winston gets a lot of yards and a TD but probably not much more than that.  Plus, he's most likely going to throw about 2 picks.  I'm guessing like 18 points.  I'm looking for Flacco to get me about 20.  It's pretty close but I think Flaccos floor is higher and that's why I'm going with him for now.  I still have some time to decide.

You just have more confidence in Flacco. I thought, before week 1, he was going to have a good season. I've been trying to sell the past few weeks and there are no buyers, even in a 2 QB league. Any team in need of a QB wants my top 2 guys and not him, even though they are desperate. So I guess I'm not alone in lacking confidence in him.

Flacco is only averaging 6.3 Y/A with 4 TDs & 4 INT in 4 games. His points looks a little better because he has 2 rushing TDs right now (his career high is 3).

Winston is averaging 6.3 Y/A as well. The difference is that he has 8 TDs and 8 INTs. I guess it surprises me that although Winston has thrown a lot, Flacco only has 7 fewer pass attempts this year. Neither of them are doing overly well right now.

I guess it could go either way. I honestly thought Winston had been throwing more but that's not the case. Flacco actually has more completed passes so more yardage, just fewer passing TDs. The Bucs offense hasn't been clicking that much this year and I think we all expected more this year. But it seems to be doing better than BAL. At least Winston has Evans whereas Flacco's best target is the ancient Steve Smith (who has actually done well).

The more I try to find differences, the more I find that they are the same and that depresses me because it means I have two QBs that aren't good options.

When both are similar but one has a lower floor I'm taking the player with the higher floor.  Flacco is more experienced so I trust him to give me a game above 15 points.  Winston still makes rookie mistakes and can be taken advantage of by a good defense and could easily score less than 10.

I just need Flacco for this week and next then I'm most likely going back to Winston for most of the season.

Wasn't Flacco facing about worse Pass D in the league last week and came out with 298/1?  What is his floor this week?
I think Flacco's floor is around 15 points against a Raiders team with a D that isn't doing all that great.  I think Winston's floor is close to 10 points against a D that's can be good but is struggling and looking to stay away from a 1-4 record.

Not only do I feel comfortable with Winston this week but I'm also starting Evans and brate with him in the same league.

Did I mention that I have no other choices?   Lol
