QB Jameis Winston, NYG (3 Viewers)

Started Tyrod over him again, which worked out well this time. They both have good matchups this week, but I think I'm gonna play Winston. He's been incredibly consistent since his bye week (15+ points every week) and I said I would play him the rest of the year going forward after the KC and SEA games.

Do we still feel as confident about the week 14/16 matchups with NO?  Their defense has been improving.  Not sure this is the slam dunk it appeared earlier in the season.

I am.  but agree their def is getting better.  jameis should still do well.  thinking at least top 10 both games

What about this week on the road vs a tough chargers d?

Once again that stafford vs Winston decision is haunting me.  Stafford in NO which should be a shootout.  Bucs vs sd should be one as well.  Grrrrr

Stafford. It's really not that close IMO.

Stafford. It's really not that close IMO.
Stafford has been a great NFL qb and middling fantasy qb for a long time now.  Det defense has stepped up and they've been playing close low scoring games where he is the game manager qb.

Only hope for the week is that Det d can't stop saints o.  Then he'll have to open it up.

I get that. However, he's playing the Saints. He could put up Eli's stats against the Saints from last year. This is a easy decision IMO.

Bucs' D has been playing better and San Diego is pretty banged up on both sides of the ball.  I think Flowers is out? Koetter has shown the propensity to run the air out of the ball if he's ahead.

Should be another monster game for Evans. Winston is still one weapon away from being an elite fantasy QB.

Stafford has more upside this week.

I like Jameis this week, but I would definitely start Stafford over him if I had to pick between the 2. The Saints always score a ton of points at home, which means Stafford will be throwing a lot. While the Saints D has improved, it is still not a scary defense.

He eeked out a respectable day.  I made a mistake by starting him over stafford at the last minute when I heard Marvin Jones was inactive.   But he wasn't terrible.

I like where he's at as a pro.   I think he's going to be great.  All he needs is a few more pieces.  A good wr2.  Maybe shore up the o line a bit more.   The defense is really starting to come together to.  Winston has TB looking like a real contender.

Well said!

Haven't had the chance to watch any of his games closely, but it seems like he's becoming a very good NFL QB and a decent (but not great) fantasy one, which is the exact opposite of what I envisioned when I drafted him. I'll start him for one more week with Mariota facing Denver, but then I think I have to go back to the hot hand.

Mariotta @ KC in December?  I prefer Winston at Dallas in the dome.  He'll be flinging it all night on that D.  And there is probably a slightly better chance of garbage time points with TB/Jameis.  Not to mention a likely higher projected point total as well.

I mean, it's something I'll have to think about over the next couple weeks. But it's not like KC is Denver-level scary when it comes to opposing QBs. They've gotten lit up pretty good the past couple weeks by Siemian and Ryan. In my Yahoo league, they give up the ninth most FFPA for the position (Dallas is 11th). And if the match-up is comparable, Mariota has been playing much better than Winston the past month.

Jameis has emerged as a high floor guy. Even when he seems to be doing nothing, he pulls out the late TD + 2pt like he did yesterday. And I hope he'll go beyond that in the two NO games. But overall, MM's ceiling has been way higher.

Shorts and Humphries also got hurt yesterday.  What Jameis is doing with basically just Mike Evans, who SD took away yesterday, is pretty fantastic.

Yes. Ended the game with:

Evans - stud

Shepard - special teams captain

somebody named Freddy Martino

Brate - undrafted, but very good

Brandon Myers :yucky:

Alan Cross

Great QBs can turn bums into relevant offensive weapons. Brady has done it with how many guys?  Same with P Manning. Favre made guys like Freeman and Schroeder into decent options.

You have to start wondering if we are seeing Winston starting to round into this kind of QB. Talk about turning chicken **** into chicken salad.

Talk in here now is a lot different than the first half or so of this thread.  If you have some time to kill and want to be entertained by a ton of wrong read through the first ten pages or so.

I can confirm this is fun to do, and also very hard not to bump dozens of posts by a certain troll.

Amazing what Jameis has been doing with the supporting cast he has. Gonna be real fun to watch next year when he actually has more than 1 or 2 (if you count Brate) legit weapons.

I've been holding him behind Ben knowing this playoff schedule. Thanks for getting me in the playoff door Ben. Winston has it from here. Choo choo!

Can anyone who saw the game shed light on Winston and the Bucs inability to score against a New Orleans D that usually gives up 30 points a game??? Thanks.

Ts exactly as I said a few weeks ago.  When I drafted Winston this year I was excited about weeks 14 and 16 in tholayoffs BC NO d has been horrible for years.  But midway through this season NO got healthier and started to gel.  They're not even close to a pushover gimme matchup anymore.  I'm glad I had a bye this week and I'm wondering if I should replace Winston in lineup for week 16 if I'm lucky enought to get there.

TB threw the ball 26 times as opposed to running it 35 times. They played low risk mistake free football and kept the ball out of Brees' hands. That's a pretty good recipe for success, given that they held NO to 11 pts.

That's great football by TB. A total team effort, including Winston staying within the script and managing the team to an important W. Only a jaded hater or an ignorant fool would knock Winston on a win like this.

I didn't knock him today. He's along for the ride. They aren't going to force the ball through the air, as you also stated, if they don't have to and he totally crushed some FF dreams today (see capt grunge above. a lot of people were salivating over this matchup and it blew up in their faces). All are facts.

That's kind of the game script I was expecting (as suggested on the FBG podcast, good looking out) and led me to bench Winston... for Big Ben. :/

Except this is a fantasy thread.  Lol.  I'd rather have 20 pts and the Bucs lose any day.

Let Winston and TB know. I'm certain that they are so concerned about your FF team that'll they'll change and take the L just for you.
Relax. I understand they don't play for fantasy points.  I can be bitter for fantasy reasons while understanding what they do on a professional level for the betterment of their team.

Tampa's defense is dominating.  It was also pouring rain in the second half, so the Bucs were content to run the ball and only make high percentage throws.  It's difficult to throw the ball down the field when it's soaking wet.  There was no reason for them to push the issue.  Jameis played turnover free mistake free football again and made a few clutch throws late for first downs when he needed to.

It sucks if you started him, but #### your fantasy team.  The Bucs have won five in a row!  :P

I'm still alive for the playoffs despite starting Winston over Brady this week. Good to know for next week that weather and game script were factors.

It seemed like an unlucky game, from what I can gather. They jumped out to an early lead with Martin getting the TD. You expected the shootout, but NO never challenged to make TB pass the ball. I didn't get to watch the game, but from following it online that seemed rather fluky. I saw NO at the 1-yard line near the end of the first half and settle for a FG. Then in the second half I saw Cooks get a 4-yard TD catch called back, and it becomes another FG. Then the rain comes and TB just has to hold on. Though I also did see a number of missed pass attempts to Evans. I started both of them, yet somehow won.
