QB Jameis Winston, NYG (4 Viewers)

Jameis Winston responds to latest accusations:

“A news organization has published a story about me regarding an alleged incident involving a female Uber driver from approximately two years ago. The story falsely accuses me of making inappropriate contact with this driver. I believe the driver was confused as to the number of passengers in the car and who was sitting next to her. The accusation is false, and given the nature of the allegation and increased awareness and consideration of these types of matters, I am addressing this false report immediately. At the time of the alleged incident, I denied the allegations to Uber, yet they still decided to suspend my account.

"I am supportive of the national movement to raise awareness and develop better responses to the concerns of parties who find themselves in these types of situations, but this accusation is false. While I am certain that I did not make any inappropriate contact, I don't want to engage in a battle with the driver and I regret if my demeanor or presence made her uncomfortable in any way."
So it sounds like he is saying someone else was in the car and was sitting next to the driver. Well, who was it? No use protecting that person because if you do, you are going to get blamed for something you didn't do. So tell us, Jamais, who was the sexual offender? C'mon now, we want to believe you.

I'll wait and see what comes of this but it sure looks like the Bucs will be drafting a QB this season. This could be the nail in his coffin. They have the opportunity now to correct the HUGE mistake they made in the 2015 draft. There are few good options in 2018. Can't see them giving this guy a new contract and if they let him walk, which is what a smart organization would do, only a bottom feeder would pick him up. I may have totally nailed the 'gone in 3 years' projection. He was failing miserably as a QB and I was winning that argument handily. When debating scouting skills of NFL QBs the abuse rolls right off me like I'm the Teflon Don and I end up victorious.

He's well on his way to being another David Carr, Vince Young and Tim Tebow for me. For you Winston supporters and you know who you are, there is no shame & it looks like I win.

Sexual misconduct. The new McCarthyism.  Evidence doesn’t matter, it’s just enough that someone says so.

This stuff means a lot to you, huh?  What's you're overall record?

Nobody has ever said that about sexual assault. Stop making #### up. What a gross, idiotic thing to say.
I did not mean to suggest anyone has that stance on sexual assault.  Though there definitely was that excuse being made for the overall behavior of this particular sexual assaulter.  Apologies if that distinction was not clear.

People praising Winston are reminiscent of PSU fans cheering on Paterno and looking past his enabling assault (even though they would all say they are anti-sexual assault) because "he gets my team a lot of wins!".  Or in this case, "Go Bucs" while wearing the home team blinders.

This guy is not a good person.

The results have been a staggering drop in his efficiency throughout 2017, most notably in total quarterback rating. After posing a 59.5 clip just last season, Winston’s QBR has fallen 20 points in 2017, down to 39.5. To put that number in perspective, consider that it slots him behind guys like Blake Bortles, Eli Manning, Drew Stanton, Brett Hundley and E.J. Manuel.

:X

Additionally, Winston — who had lost five consecutive games this season before getting hurt — ranks a paltry 26th against the blitz and in his 37 attempted deep passes this season, he has completed just 10 balls. In fact, on deep throws, he ranks 28th in adjusted completion percentage, and 26th in passer rating, per PFF. Maybe more surprising, is that he is below the league average in both short and intermediate throws.

:X

But hey, 4000 yards and blah blah blah.

Whole lotta gloating was going on when he would put up garbage time stats or beat up cupcakes that every other QB beats up. Sometimes you have to educate people. I've missed a few calls. Nailed this one.

Nobody excused or enabled sexual assault because he was having success on the field. Many, including myself, had doubts about the allegation made at FSU. People are free to look at the evidence (or not) and come to their own conclusion.

Today's revelation obviously makes it seem more likely that he did something pretty bad that night at FSU, but this is all a new revelation. As far as I can tell nobody today has come in here and excused what he was accused of by the uber driver.

A lot of us didn't like Winston when he was drafted. (Some, myself included, thought they could actually stay with Glennon another year, that appears to have been wrong too).  I'm very pleased that my team took the better person and leader. Marcus has to improve his play, but we can work with that.

Winston had moments in the field where he looked like he might be getting it. (Along with others where he did not) How much of that was just having Evans?

Expect one of his buddies to fall on the sword for him in the next 72 hours. His quote is setting this up. Looks like he's just another QB in the million dollar arm, ten cent head category. He's a bum, but Tampa is kind of stuck on the hope train for at least one more season. Not going to end well, check back in five years.

Wouldn't be shocked if the "injury" keeps him out the rest of the season. Unless this accusation goes away quick.
I didn't think he was playing again anyways even before the accusation. Why get him further hurt in a meaningless season.

Eagles cornerback Ronald Darby, former FSU teammate of Jameis Winston, had disputed the Uber driver’s account of an alleged groping that took place in Arizona in 2016.

On Sunday morning Darby issued a statement.

“I felt the need to come forward and clarify some inaccurate accounts of the evening of March 13, 2016 when myself, a friend and Jameis Winston took an Uber ride in Arizona. There were three of us in the car, not just one as has been reported. Myself and Jameis were in the backseat. I am confident that nothing inappropriate in nature happened in the car that evening and Jameis did not have any physical contact with the Uber driver. The accusations are just not true.”

The NFL is investigating the incident that has created a stir nationally. Winston quickly disputed the allegation on Friday via Twitter.

“A news organization has published a story about me regarding an alleged incident involving a female Uber driver from approximately two years ago. The story falsely accuses me of making inappropriate contact with this driver. I believe the driver was confused as to the number of passengers in the car and who was sitting next to her. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Jameis Winston's relationship with Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter is "not in a good place."

Per Rapsheet, Winston didn't feel the organization fully supported him throughout his shoulder injury and has also grown frustrated with the team's play-calling, feeling the offense has become too predictable. Coming off a franchise record 28 touchdown passes in 2016, Winston has taken a noticeable step back this year, averaging a career-low 243.3 passing yards per game while watching Tampa Bay fall out of the NFC playoff hunt. Koetter could be out of a job soon if the Bucs' struggles continue over the final month.

Coach killer.

They’ll almost surely pick up his 2019 option so we’ll see how far the next coach takes them in two years. I think it would be unwise for the Bucs to give him a second cobtract; he’s not a franchise QB IMO.

You probably wouldn't have said that in 2016 when he threw for over 4000 yards and 28 TDs.

They are going to make the exact same mistakes that the Houston Texans did with David Carr, incl. giving him the 2nd contract after exhausting all the standard excuses. Coach, OL, no weapons, no running game, playcalling, etc. Eventually you get to the root of the problem. Poorly run organizations can't figure it out right away.

The thing is, is that Koetter knows he has a game manager at best who thinks he is some sort of great QB. He has to dumb down the game plan to prevent the horrible decisions that Winston makes. He's just too slow and too dumb to play this game. It's too fast for him. The D can easily defend against a dumbed down offensive game plan.

I have from the get go.

It's hard not to be impressed with 4000 yards and 28 TDs.
OK. I prefer film over box scores. He has a shocking lack of touch on short passes and fades. He does one thing really well - he puts the ball in the vicinity of Mike Evans, knowing he’ll win most 50-50 balls. How many times do we have to see Jaemis make bad decisions in the middle of the field, throwing into bracketed coverage that results in another senseless INT, before we can conclude he’s not very good at his job?

But let’s play the stat game, and just to be nice, let’s use last years stats instead of this year’s regression.

QB12 in yards. 18 interceptions. QBs with a worse TD/INT ratio: Fitz, Bortles, Osweiller, Flacco, Wentz (any update?), Newton, Barkley.

45 turnovers in 41 starts.

Well, he’s 23. So the age is impressive.

I mean, he's 100% right on the predictable offense.  Call him a coach killer all you want, but the offense is terrible.

Also, his shoulder was obviously injured for 3 games he was run out there to play mid-season. I don't know how anybody can dispute that, unless you just want to fly in the face of basic facts.

I mean the play Dirk called on 4th and 1 against the Falcons, down 7 a few weeks ago is the single worst play call I've ever seen. The guy actually apologized for it after the game it was so bad. Just awful.

In TB today to watch the Leos.  Hilarious how bad Winston was. Detroit and Tampa kept exchanging turnovers.  The difference was there was actually WRs in the vicinity of the INTs when Stafford threw it.  Jameis was targeting Detroit DBs.

Only 3 total turnovers for him. It was a good day.

Wow.....first time I have really watched a whole game of his. Surprised Koettner kept him in the game. Also thought leadership was one of his better qualities....he was whining after each ridiculous turnover. So he doesn't take responsibility for his poor choices and makes too many WTF plays every game.

Hell no he doesn't. It's always someone else's fault. His complete incompetence is going to get Koetter fired but that won't fix the Bucs problem. It will just extend it more years.

New staff may be best off trading him and starting fresh. They have a boatload of weapons on the offensive side. I came away very impressed with Godwin and along with Evans/Howard/Brate/Jackson they have the fire power to be a force. Draft your guys at QB and build the oline. Jameis is a strange dude and I doubt we have seen his worst from a personality standpoint. On top of the fact that he should be much further along on the football field than he has shown.

Cabella is going to his grave defending this guy.  It's fantastic.
Before this week he was the 16th-ranked QB in the league according to PFF, and that's with him playing 4 games with a hurt shoulder, and this is by far his worst year. He's nowhere near as bad as most of the mouthbreathers here think.

If he is this average next year, then there is a problem. I doubt that will be the case.

I like you, you're a great poster.  But on this one, you need to stop while you're behind.  HTH.

Not a great advertisement for PFF grades I guess.....

The thing is, it wouldn't matter if he was just an average or below average QB starter, except that he was drafted #1 overall and the media has pushed him as the future of the QB position poised for a breakout (although this year there have been shinier objects like Wentz to focus on, so he hasn't had that much attention).

I agree that sometimes we are too hard on young players too early (see Goff), but in this case it doesn't feel like there has been enough scrutiny - there is the odd "is Winston actually good?" sentiment in the media, but it hasn't really caught on. He's still given a pass to some extent. It's scary that he hasn't really shown signs of improvement, I don't care what his stats are.

Thanks for the nice words but I don't really need the help.

The guy has had two really good seasons and one admittedly mediocre one, albeit one where he was really hurt for at least a quarter of the season. I mean, maybe shoulder injuries where the ball is noticeably weaker coming out isn't a big deal but it would seem to be to me.
