QB Jaxson Dart, NYG (2 Viewers)

Giants fan, who may be scarred by multiple Tommy DeVito starts but I'll take the other end. I borderline love the pick.

Dart at least has foundational elements of a QB that are rather standard requisite for 2025 NFL QB success, he can throw deep and he can run. Both attributes open lanes in the defense to operate with. The giants have not really had that... ever. Eli could pass but he couldn't move. Jones could run but he was basically one read to one side of the field, usually the roll out side. In and around them have been lots of flotsam.

So I may be coming in with a lower bar.

The good side is, 21 years old, 3 year SEC starter

If he was a sure thing, he goes top 5, not 25. But at 25, with a coach and GM on a short leash, they bought next year. I expects Dart to start by Week 9 no matter what, the giants did the same to Kurt Warner who was 5-4 and in playoff contention.

Dart will get 24-25 games to show you a pulse and projectabilty. If he stinks, you are back at the top of the 2027 draft with a new coach and GM. The draft capital to acquire him wasn't crazy if you think he's a player.

The player and the coaching dictate most success. So he's an unknown but he has the pieces I want to see and I do think Daboll did help Josh Allen go from a semi project to the best QB in the NFL (although Allen made that leap without Daboll so I give him a great deal of credit)
Thanks for this! I just took him at 2.4 in a SF because I thought he dropped too far. But it also tells me this league doesn’t value him now. I passed on Scattpack.
I like Daboll and I think he’s a good coach. Dart will probably get his chance this season but I’m worried about his college play.

I like it. I think a lot of the histrionics were coming from the media and what was simultaneously happening with Sheduer. I always like Dart over Sanders, with the stipulation being that he needed to sit while Sanders was likely more "ready to start" (honestly found this debatable as well). The only real shock to me was that this organization really went out of their way to say Daboll is hanging on by a thread and was almost not brought back for this season, let alone any more after. So to let him take a rookie QB project, especially with a 1st round pick, seemed like a poor decision (unless they plan on giving Daboll at least one more year).

We can quibble over what exactly turned Josh Allen from a long shot college QB who had a disastrous rookie year into the Pro Bowl caliber player he is now; but Daboll was along for that ride. I think Dart is right up his alley to mold into a good NFL starter. And considering how late he's going in SF drafts; I think it's easier to bet on a coach who turned a similar long shot into a usable QB than some of the other options this year.

On Sirius he was emphatic about it and discussed Josh Allen didn't have Russel and Winston and...sounded definitive that he is sitting year one
I should be expected that he sits...most of his 1st year. Assuming the Giants are not in the playoff hunt I can see them work him in and start a few games down the stretch just to get his feet wet. Hopefully the wait will push him down some
