QB Jordan Love, GB (2 Viewers)

The Packers wanted to be the smartest guys in the room again and chose future over present. Now their present is a bloated QB contract.

having a bloated QB contract is a sign of organizational success. You need one.
Uhh.

uhh. yeah.
Cousins. Herbert. Lawrence. Tua. Jones. Plenty of guys with bloated contracts that haven’t won jack. Basically if you’re not horrible you get a new deal. Seems like bad business to me.

But, I get it. Competent QB play is hard to find.

Jordan Love’s Cash Flow
2024: $79M
2025: $13M
2026: $51M
2027: $43M
2028: $45M

Jordan Love’s Cap Hits

2024: $20.7M
2025: $29.7M
2026: $36.1M
2027: $42.4M
2028: $74.2M

Looks like a "three and we'll see" kind of thing.

Looks like a "three and we'll see" kind of thing.

This deal and the Tua deals are both examples of QBs and teams that wanted each other, making concessions.

For Love, you're right, three years, and then they see.
And if they like, they get another year for a reasonable cap number. In fact, his cap numbers are reasonable for 4 years.

And for Love, if he is really good, he will probably be underpaid drastically by year 4, and the cap number is so big in year 5, the Pack will want to re-sign him before that year 5. That huge number is to Love's benefit if he's really good, because GB won't want a 2024 Dak situation on their hands.

I'm not normally that guy but this is damn hilarious.

Poor Love.. About to lose his job and Clifford will never give it back.

Clifford is going to be a stud

Clifford seems likely to lose out to 7th round rookie Michael Pratt. Nether has been good, but Clifford seems to have regressed from last Spring. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Packers bring in a street QB this week.

Found some replays on Twitter where you can clearly see his knee pop. What that means, I have no clue. But there is clear video of it and it certainly can’t be a good thing.

I think he’s cooked.

Doc Jesse Morse

Been following him for a couple years, pretty solid and doesn't try to sensationalize things too much.

Looks like MCL is a possibility - whether it's a sprain or worse we won't know until the MRI. Two other possibilities....anyway, think I'm shopping for a QB tonight.

Left Leg injury I’ve reviewed the video multiple times and there are a couple different possible injuries, it’s not super clear at the moment.

Most concerning: ACL tear

This is supported by a ‘pivot shift’ where the knee appears to shift/slightly buckle, usually this happens when the ACL is torn.

The MCL is also at risk here.

Finally, his left ankle is vulnerable to a high-ankle sprain.

Thought i saw the knee "pop" on replay.....but then he was walking around on sidelines after so was thinking maybe just cramping......dammit!!!

guys can temporarily put weight on a torn ACL or MCL, see it all the time

but we have to wait for the MRI, could be any of 3 injuries rn - def looked like the defensive player is putting weight on side of the knee and Love's leg was planted, but we can't say for sure

Seen guys with ligament tears jog off the field before, adrenaline is a hell of a thing.

If it is serious, I'm glad Love got paid beforehand anyway.

ETA: Unfortunately for GB there may not be a team less prepared to need their backup QB. If it is serious, I do wonder if this is our Tannehill team?

I certainly hope he’s okay. I’m really praying for some sort of sprain to his knee and ankle. I have seen the closeups on twitter where it seems to show some sort of popping action in his knee which is concerning. I just would hate to see a lost season for such a promising player. I felt like NFL fans were kinda robbed when Rodgers got hurt in the first game last season and I really hope that the same outcome doesn’t end up being the case for Love. Fingers crossed for the kid and for Packers fans (and NFL fans).

So what does GB do assuming the worst? Go after Howell?

Best Unsigned Quarterback Free Agents, 2024:
  • Ryan Tannehill
  • Trevor Siemian
  • Kellen Mond
  • Max Duggan
  • Nate Sudfeld
  • Desmond Ridder
  • P.J. Walker
  • C.J. Beathard
What do you think the Seahawks would want? Couple Day 3 picks get it done?

They don't have a 3rd QB on the active roster or practice squad so I doubt they would be interested but who knows.

I can't stop watching the "play" in BOTH knees.
It's never lateral but forward and I see it laterally in both.

The hinged look, seesaw look shows it isn't all torn if it's torn.

I don't think there's any chance he plays in week two. Even if an MRI shocks us all, ya gotta figure his knees are swollen and that hurt like heck. Anyone that's ever hurt a knee or probably any joint....we all agree on that right? It's gotta be swollen and painful?

I'm picking up one QB and if any late picks stink in week one, then I'm picking up a second QB. Levis and Baker I think.

My leagues are too active and people too much like sharks smelling blood in the water- they don't even need a QB but I guarantee they'll try to hurt me by grabbing one this weekend.

As candid as I can be, just go get you a QB and then wait for Love's injury news after that

"I don't know. We're waiting. Obviously very concerned about it. We'll wait to find out when we do more tests."

I don't think it'd necessarily be better than Tannehill, but I doubt Carolina would need much for Andy Dalton.

They do have a UDFA rookie on their practice squad. But I do think Canales values what Dalton brings to the party in terms of game plan prep and being Bryce's hype man.

He kind of knows he could force his way out to still be a starter somewhere if he wanted but he's embraced the teammate/mentor/cheerleader role for the last two years.

The whole thing stinks. Hoping Love is not out for the year.

It definitely looked like a ligament popped. They have to be seriously looking at Tannehill.

Really hate to see this…injuries suck.

Tyler Huntley could possibly work.
I wonder if the browns would trade Winston.

Big challenge in front of Brian Gutekunst.

Winston was my first thought, but the Browns let Huntley go so I guess they will keep him. Huntley is PS so would essentially be free - correct? Not sure if they can make a move until the next league week though.

Gotta love it when you are waiting for that key update on a Sunday morning, all the while your opponent has added & dropped like 10 QBs.... lol. When the situation is uncertain, I think you gotta get out in front of it & add a guy. Recently, what Kevin O'Connell & Dave Canalas have accomplished with QBs, should be we be shocked if Matt LaFleur proves capable of working a little QB magic himself? Malik Willis becomes an interesting consideration here, in leagues where QBs are coveted. Just went to one of mine & I counted 19 QBs that were drafted. That pretty much forces the one QB owner to try to work a trade. I always draft two QB1s now. Bo Nix is another option I wouldn't hesitate to add, again, if your options are severely limited.

In my SF I added tannehill, just cuz.
I only have two starting QBs right now (Caleb and purdy) but Winston, hooker, lock, stidham, Flacco and now tannehill. Rattler and Jordan Travis on the ts. So yeah, that’s 10 QBs on my roster. Meanwhile others have 20+ IDPs while we only start 7 total and there are always decent options on waivers.

Unless they haven't liked what they see in Howell why would they deal him...Smith will be 34 in October and is signed thru 2025...if they can develop Howell, they could potentially have their QB-of-the-future already in the wings (or at least a solid/very affordable bridge option) which would make life so much easier for the future of this franchise...worst case is he's a quality backup...unless they are getting a #1 back (which I don't see happening) or a pretty big haul I don't see Seattle dealing him.

I believe teams can protect 4 players on their player squad each week. They added that clause during the 2020 COVID season and was on the books last year. If that is the case, the Browns could hold on to Huntley and try to get something for him in a trade. I think you’re right that the current slate of games has to be completed before new roster moves can take place.

Of course, it is a wait-and-see proposition at this point. My observation and couch doctor's point of view are some things. 1. This could be multiple injuries, knee and ankle, or just one or the other. I understand we all know this, but I keep focusing on one or the other, and the possibility of both injuries is concerning the knee pop and the ankle. I would be as concerned with a high ankle sprain. The knee pops in and out, but there is no twist or movement to the side. In my couch doctor's view, I feel good about this, or I'm just optimistic it is not an ACL tear. Lastly, they did not place a knee brace on him, and he walked normally after the game. His walk had no limp in his gate, and it looked like he was out for a stroll. This could be adrenaline and mean team doctors knew he could do no more damage than what had already been done, or they felt confident in the injury; whatever it may be, the injury/injuries are stable enough for full body weight.

Unless the Packers want to wait to disclose, we should know more by Sunday. I was holding my breath all night due to so many players slipping. I had multiple players in the game, including Love. He was on my bench, but he is still a big part of that team in that league. I have Reed in another league. Hurts was my starting QB in the league with Love. I'm vested in the Packer offense in all 3 leagues, so I just wanted the game to end. The last play??? Really?? Not to go down the rabbit hole too much, but the NFL needs to look at these converted field conditions when converting fields that are not made with NFL football in mind.

Current NFL Practice Squad QBs

There are no solutions here but you probably want two QBs so Willis....has someone to compete with.
  • ARI - Desmond Ridder
  • ATL - Nathan Peterman
  • BAL - Tyler Huntley, Devin Leary
  • BUF - Mike White

My apologies if those first 5 triggered anyone

  • CAR - Jack Plummer
  • CHI - Austin Reed
  • CIN - Logan Woodside
  • DET - Jake Fromm Legit would hate for the Lions to lose him, he was impressive in P3 on no prep, Campbell was pleased
  • HOU - Kedon Slovis on name alone this has to be The One
  • IND - Jason Bean
  • JAX - John Rhys Plumlee why do they always refer to assassins and serial killers by all 3 names?
  • LV - Carter Bradley this guy should be on a ballot somewhere
  • MIA - Tim Boyle triggered
  • NYJ - Adrian Martinez OK for real this guy can play if you want a dual threat
  • PHI - Will Grier
  • SF - Tanner Mordecai as with Slovis and Mordecai Plumlee, the name is intriguing. by that I mean the name, not the quarterback
  • SEA - Jaren Hall missed him upthread, he wasn't on the Seahawks original squad; saw him last year, I think he should have went on mission
  • TB - Michael Pratt
  • WAS - Sam Hartman
