49ers signed QB Sam Darnold, formerly of the Panthers, to a one-year contract.
After watching Kyle Shanahan turn 2022's Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy, into a viable starter, who's to say he can't get Darnold's contract back on track? While it sounds like a long shot, Shanahan's offense has been known to be incredibly quarterback friendly and could be just the thing Darnold needs after a rough two-year stint in Carolina. In his two years with the Panthers, Darnold threw for 3,670 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions while ranking 37th among 39 quarterbacks in EPA per play (-0.048). With Purdy and former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance on the mend from significant injuries, there's a good possibility we see Darnold suit up at some point for the 49ers this upcoming season.
