QB Shedeur Sanders, CLE (4 Viewers)

I would ask Sanders why he didn't think he needed to be prepared to enter the game at a moment's notice but I prefer to build on what we saw today
Like most opinions that have been shared about him, both good and bad, this is a silly expectation. How many occurrences has there been historically in which a mid-late round rookie gets thrust into action mid-season and good outcomes resulted? I'd love to see evidence that lists any name beyond Tom Brady and Brock Purdy.

Kirk Cousins?
The defense forgot to cover Santana Moss on an 80 yd td, but outside of that his 'drives' consisted of two 3-and-outs and 2 int's on 3 plays.
And then his first actual start, he beats the browns with 70% completion, 329 yards, 2/1.
Correct - evaluating a rookie backup after he gets a week to prepare is night-and-day vs in-game emergency duty.

If you can't see youthful excitement in that little clip and only see arrogance I think its on you not him
Arrogance is interesting because many people hate it in athletes who have yet to prove themselves, but then they love it in athletes once they prove themselves. Muhammad Ali and Conor McGregor may be two of the most arrogant athletes ever, but many people loved their arrogance once they were at the top of their sport. Yet an athlete can't reach the top of their sport unless they're arrogant enough to believe that's where they belong. So many people want young athletes to have an unbridled belief in themselves, but then they get upset if the athlete publicly shares that belief.
fair enough. but on the other hand Id say people are ok with the arrogance when the athlete has earned the right to be arrogant.

I think the issue for many (myself included) is that he has yet to earn that right to be arrogant.

my thought is, once you show you can bring it, I dont mind if you gloat afterwards.

either way, Sheudur got a nice dose of humble pie being taken in round 5. I honestly think he will be a better player for having had that humbling experience and his chances of making it as a pro are better than they would have been if he was a first round pick. for most that is not true. but for him, I think it is.

the other issue is the silly mime answers in the interview. its kind of hard to imagine that this is the guy who will be leading a group of pro football players. Many of whom are 8-10 years his senior. from a leadership perspective, that may be the very reason he wasnt elevated to be the starter early in the season.

but here is the rub, as a coach, I'd be ok with the arrogance. lots of competitive guys have it. but the Arrogance only serves you if you can bring it on the field. An arrogant guy who cant play is only a problem. And Sheudur needs to remember that and not bring that attitude until he can consistently bring it on the field.

"it's not bragging if you can back it up“

How many times are you gonna post the same thing?

Let me repost my entire entry cause you're hellbent on keeping this going
Wait, so Gabriel gets zero credit for a win,
Sure, he scored the DEFENSIVE TD. He ran 46 yards for the TD instead of Judkins. He drove the team down the field with the game on the line at the end of the game to win it.
Sanders gets props for a failed drive?
No, every rookie QB who hasn't played since August and gets thrown into a game shouldn't struggle. No NFL QB needs practice, or reps with teammates, or a game plan, or to develop timing, especially a rookie.
watch these last 8 plays with a chance to tie this game up.....For a QB to not have taken a meaningful snap since August...He gave the Browns a chance
Maybe I should give Dillion credit for what Shedeur did right? You seem BENT on giving him credit for things others did.
Incredible observations Bracie, you nailed this one
Sanders looked a lot more calm today.

Russini reported this as a big tell that Sanders was a lot more prepared this week than just being thrown into the game with no reps since Aug

I think Sanders has a long way to go before being heralded as a starting QB in 2026, a lot could happen between now and then including a new HC, maybe another QB prospect if the new coach isn't as excited about the Gabriel/Sanders combo long term

Great post Bracie, thank you
And you want to go back and forth over my post that was written to Bracie with his terrific observations
Silly Silly Silly

I wish more people were at least happy for the guy.
Why?
I dunno man. I know he's easy to hate. But I think he's been pissed on enough at this point.

Are we supposed to be happy for every late round draft pick whose team wins the first game he starts?

I wish more people were at least happy for the guy.
I'm happy he finally got a chance. He's been **** on constantly by people who go "hur durr why get excited over a 5th round pick" while denying his actual talent level and others who **** on him for his attitude and ignoring he's a young kid still growing and learning. If people are going to evaluate him, bias does nothing but cloud the lenses. He's going to need team reps (last week in practice was the first time he's actually thrown to some of those dudes on an organized setting, lol) and an actual chance to compete and not hold his pre-draft interviews against him

Personally the evals from his draft still hold water. I think he had the highest floor of any rookie QB coming into the draft, but also a super low ceiling (which is why he wasn't a 1st rounder to me, but more of a 2nd rounder). He's not going to be an elite QB IMHO; I saw his ceiling as a more-mobile Jacoby Brissett. But as you see with Arizona, that's not too bad...

My opponent in FF this week started Joe Flacco and Shedeur Sanders against me.
But did you win?
I was down 44.5 points going into Monday night as he had George Pickens, Hunter Henry, Myles Garrett and Cleveland Defense so he put up a lot of points. I had Dowdle, Jauan Jennings, and George Kittle Lost by 4. I hate losing. I'm now 9 and 3 and still alone in first place, but that was rough. I had Achane and Waddle on bye. Rashee Rice and Mahomes put up the most points for me but everyone else was okay but pretty average. No excuses.

So..... you lost to Shedeur Sanders.
😉

I'll cheer for him. Guy has flair and is interesting. I just don't think he has it. What do I know though?
Stuff like this is interesting. Finding out over the years which moderately-talented first-year NFL QB's hang on in some way (on the field, broadcasting, etc.), which ones pass right through the league unnoticed in a year or 3, and which 1 or 2 had the skill, effort, and luck to hit it big. There's just no way to tell at this point in their careers.

I'm avoiding all offensive players not named Judkins, McCaffrey, or Kittle where possible in this game. I may be stuck with Purdy however. I'm playing Strange over Fannin and wouldn't touch Sanders with a ten foot pole. I think Pearsall is a meh play as well. I suppose if you have to start Jennings go ahead, but I don't trust the offenses in this game.
