First run of 2014 turned kind of tempo-ish yesterday. Like Jux, I have an issue with getting passed on runs and get competitive about it. While I technically didn't get passed yesterday, I was fed a big piece of humble pie. About 2.2 miles into my run and getting comfortable into 7:30s pace I see a tall kid loosening his legs to start a run up ahead. He's wearing a Seahawks Cross Country shirt so I assume he runs for UNC Wilmington? Well, just as I am 4-5 seconds from getting to him, he starts his run. Not that I thought I'd stay with him, but I thought I'd try to keep it sort of close. Uhhh.....NO. Right away he's effortlessly putting a big gap on me. Easily 30+ seconds in a half mile. Then more and more to the point where I only see him if it's a long straightaway. On the 3rd mile split, my Garmin reads 7:05. So in the .8 since I've seen him, I am running sub 7 pace and he's easily going sub 6. From a cold start. Nice. To be young again...Anyway, I gave up on him and was about to turn around soon anyway but since I was already rolling (for me) and felt decent I kept it going for awhile. Did 7.5 miles total with last 10k in 44:15 and last 5 miles in 35:08
