Ran a 10k - Official Thread (4 Viewers)

Looking like a garbage week for all of us, but that long range forecast is quite simply heavenly. 54/39 at noon Friday
Yeah, warm and humid here today and tomorrow, but then we're FINALLY getting that amazing fall weather with highs in the 50s and overnight lows in the low 40s...

I'm kind of excited to have run 104 miles in September. I have no idea when my last 100-mile month was but I know it was years ago.

I usually take Friday off, run Saturday and do long run on Sunday. Because of schedule, I did this week's long run on Saturday with fresh legs. Just ran it nice and easy by feel for the first 6 (about 10:20), was feeling good and lengthened my stride for the next 3 (9:20), then ran like a maniac and did the 10th mile in 8:38, which was the fastest mile I ran all month - and felt great coming at the end of the longest run I did all month. I only missed 1 of my 22 planned runs.

Next up - 157 miles in October, building to a long run of 13 miles on the last Sunday of the month.

This heatwave sucks...but I think I need it.   I tweaked my back a little bit last Wednesday and pushed through with a couple runs to end the week -- but couldn't even go more than half a mile yesterday before bagging it, it just didn't feel right.  It hasn't gotten any better, so a few days off is probably good for me, but I still need to get some miles on my feet before the HM.

THANKS GLOBAL WARMING!  THANKS OBAMA!  THANKS TRUMP!  THANKS FARTING COWS!

Even with a bad start to the month by going to Vegas for a week of fun, I've run 119.9 miles this month with one more to go tonight. Already my 2nd highest monthly total of the year (had 147 last month). This past week was 47.3, which is the most I've logged in a strava week ever. Actually my first back to back 40 mile weeks on strava - almost assuredly the first time I've done that since high school.

Milwaukee Lakefront is this coming Sunday.  Looking like decent racing weather with forecast currently saying 49° at the start warming into the mid-50s.  Friend of mine is looking to possibly win the women's race in her 3rd-ever marathon. She ran 3:01 and 2:50 in her first two and recently ran a 1:18:41 half with no specific training.  Last year's winner ran 2:45:21.

Crazy that it's only six weeks.  This week is a cutback for me (43 total miles) then just two more big "up" weeks before the taper!
I really haven't had a true cut-back week in a while.  Four and five weeks ago I backed off to 50+ mile weeks, but that was about it.  The last three weeks have been 60+.  I'm in my last two weeks of pre-taper training, and I'll shoot for 55-60 miles each week with two days rest instead of just one.  I'm still feeling surprisingly good ...just kinda sick of the overall time commitment (recognizing that @Juxtatarot in particular does this kind of mileage year round).

I have been, too (for the most part).  That's why I'm kinda leaning towards not "racing" or doing any structured training next year and just running for fun.  Or maybe I'll race in the spring and then chill for the rest of the year.  We'll see.

In bizarro world, I've been embracing the time commitment.  I'll add it up later, but I suspect I will be north of 60 hours for September.  That said, my body is looking forward to taper time.

Non-cyborg's benefit from an offseason. The right offseason length varies substantially person-to-person though. Not just physically, but mentally.

And clearly @Juxtatarot is a cyborg.

I’m dragging and I have a good idea why, the past 10 days have been a bit much.  It started out with a couple’s weekend celebrating a friend's birthday up in the Finger Lakes. This involved cramming my 6’ 1” frame in the 3rd row of a Dodge Durango for 4 hours each way, and wine tasting all day Saturday which included a stop at the distillery for whiskey tasting.  I did a decent job keeping the drinking under control and was able to hit my mileage goal for that week.

I had to travel for work last week, Eagles played Thursday night, my wife had abdominal pain on Friday and I took her to the ER which we spend 12 hours at and they found nothing wrong (good news), for the week ran 11 miles at HMP or faster, and got in my 60 miles for the week.  This involved running a double on Thursday and running at 8:00 PM Friday after the day spent in the ER.

This morning I woke up with a scratchy throat and my recovery run was extra slow.  I have a 3 X 2 miles @HMP-10 planned for tomorrow.  I have to travel for work again this week, and it looks like I have to travel next week.  I have my parents 70th birthday party coming Saturday and a stupid baby shower that I have to attend on Sunday.  This doesn’t include all the normal activities my 3 kids have or the fact that my wife is operating at less than 100%.

The good news is that it is October starting tomorrow and it’s time to get to work, I’m hoping I’ll be able to go to bed at 8 tonight and I’ll feel better tomorrow.

That was miserable. "Feels like" was 91 degrees. Feel like #### now afterwards.
Yeah, this summer has pretty much cemented my decision to never run a fall marathon again. Just brutal humidity here.

On the bright side, my wife has started working out 5 days a week, and she is running 3 of those days. So we will be looking at treadmills soon. She absolutely will not run in cold weather and wants to keep the momentum going.

So that will be good.

#### man, glad all is ok with ER.  I’m just being a ##### over here with my wife traveling and I’m hungry and sore.  Seeing that HM strength WO gave me flashbacks to April, they were 😳

Told my kids before dinner I’m going to bed at 9 and upped my wawa pretzel protocol today.  Lots to do this week.

You have parts of this saved and just paste the ####, right?

Yikes. Hope your wife is ok. As a guy who has made that run to the ER for my stomach, it can be some scary stuff.

Glad it wasn't serious for Mrs. pbm.  Hope she recovers quickly.

Don't be afraid to take a day off.

In other, less urgent medical news, my ER this morning resulted in two skinned knees and a goose egg on my noggin.  Apparently I've forgotten how to run streets in winter.

OK, I'll stop complaining about the heat now.

Hope you are ok. Yikes.

Yeah all good.  Just like winter driving, it takes a shock to the system to remember to slow down and be careful.

Probably will need to do treadmill tomorrow for my HMP intervals.  Hard to keep that pace with all the icy sections out there.

Weather warming up this week though, so it should all be burned-off by the weekend.

Finished September off with 127.9 miles. Have run 923.2 now in 2019. Closing in on 10k feet of elevation gain for the year, or 1 duck run worth of climbs!

2nd month in a row just under 200 miles - 194. If all goes to plan I should be well over 200 in October - and I'm curious by how much. Up to 1,466 on the year, so depending on if I take a post race break or not I may get a 4th straight year over 2K. Wasn't expecting that 9 months ago.

And because I quite simply cannot stick to a plan for more than a day at a time I'm leaning towards 10K'ing this weekend rather than later in the month. Race is much closer to home, starts at 10:30 rather than sunrise, and forecast appears cool enough. Won't decide til Thursday or Friday though.

In the meantime, bring on the heat!!!

Got my first PT session Friday.

I need a diagnosis.  I need a plan.

BTW (I know you guys care about this) - I have a 🙂 🔭 procedure tomorrow afternoon.  Im drinking clear fluids only right now.  Absolutely starving.  There is NO CHANCE i make it to my appt without dying of calorie something or other.

244 for me in September and 2,054 so far this year.

Warm and rainy today, but then highs in the 50s for the next four days with overnight lows between 39-44 degrees.  Giggity!   :headbang:

Currently at 1043 miles for this year, which still puts me on pace to surpass last years mileage by about 150 or so. So overall pleased with that. Got a nice 8 miler last night to start ramping up for the March half marathon. Weather starts to turn here tomorrow hopefully.  So going to start doing 30 miles a week to get me ready for the Hanson plan, which will start late November.

The heat this summer has been brutal with the humidity. Probably won't ever really train for a fall race at this point.
