Why not plug in your ANT stick that I assume came with your Garmin? #teamgarmin is looking for someone to dominate the senior circuit.

Heading out soon to Michigan for the MUTT team relay with Dexter and Turkish Harem (Bourbon Chasers, and last fall's Ironman guys) and a friend of theirs. So speaking of senior circuit: they'll give awards for top runners in each distance (5, 10, 20, and 31 miles) and then handicapped awards by age group. I'll be getting a 23.5% time discount. :D Talk about negative splits ...

I use an app called mapmyfitness, track my running using daily mile, and have an excel sheet logging both my running and strength training - more details about weights than running though.

Other than inefficient, what am I?

A man with too much free time

1 hour run at 78 degrees this morning. So that's nice. 72 degree dew point which still means of 150 SI. :X

North Carolina, things aren't working out. it's not you. It's me. But we can still be friends.

Not exactly sure what I am doing, but I am leaning towards signing up for the Philly Full. I am going to decide by the end of the month before the price goes up. Let me know if you are going to do any tuneup races before your Full in Sept.
:excited: God I love that race! I'm looking forward to that half more than Via full.

I'm big time on the fence about a tune-up half this go around since it'd most likely have to be in the August heat. :topcat:
Despite the heat, August might be the best month for a half marathon for several of us to meet up and run since it's far enough away from the fall marathons.

Well, you know, it isn't like you're moving to Barrow coming up here...

It's funny, about 5 people commented today how Bama will be slightly cooler. Pretty sure it's less humid. But right, it's not Michigan.

I'd go with hotter and slightly less humid, on average. In suck index terms I doubt there will be much of a change.

https://weatherspark.com/averages/31286/Fayetteville-North-Carolina-United-States

Looks like Fayetteville is about 2-4 degrees warmer than Huntsville each month.

Huntsville is 337' higher in elevation than Fayetteville which probably causes the difference.

Not saying it will be easier to run - higher elevation and hillier, but it looks like it will be very slightly cooler.

also ran 5 miles on Sunday

Mile 1 - 9:12

Mile 2 - 9:17

Mile 3 - 9:35

Mile 4 - 9:14

Mile 5 - 8:48

46:06 total 9:13 avg pace

.
Same route today:

Mile 1 - 8:51

Mile 2 - 9:07

Mile 3 - 8:54

Mile 4 - 8:51

Mile 5 - 8:39

Total - 44:17 8:51 avg pace. Avg HR - 164

Every time out I'm beating my previous time. I assume this is going to stop at some point? Not sure how I feel about that.

Eventually you'll want to go out and not go balls to the wall, go a little longer and slower, and try to enjoy the run. Will be good for you too.

Go you! (All who are racing)

Dew point only 70 today, was only 80 degrees this morning. 90 minute ride with intervals. Didn't bring anything except water, the last 20 minutes was rough.

Swam basically two half miles today - one before lunch and one after. Just a little over a mile total. My plan is to drink my body weight in margaritas later.

Be sure to consume the salt :)

Well, I'm an Ultra! Really, really tough, but kept pushing along. 5:40ish ...11 minutes/mile or so. More to come later.
Awesome! Welcome to the ultrarunner club. And you beat my PR by 14 minutes, not that I'm surprised. Congrats!

My Ducks sweep men's and women's outdoor NCAA track championships! 1-2 in the men's 10K, 1-2-4 in the men's 5K, great performance all around in front of the home Hayward Field crowd. Any of you that are track fans, there is no better place in the country than #tracktownusa to catch a big meet, make a point to get there some day.

Marathon preparation just isn't complete until you have pre race poop anxiety.

Come on bowels, get with the program. No reason to lug around any extra weight for 26.2 miles. Wasn't able to relieve myself until mile 18 of this race last year. Would really like to avoid that scenario again.

Good luck - maybe drink a little coffee? That always gets things moving. By now you are probably racing so don't burn yourself! ;)

Ran 3 miles with AAA Jr. - he came to me last night and said "we're running in the morning, right?" As I contemplated the beer and margaritas I had consumed I said "sure". Nice to have somebody pushing me. :)

Good news was I able to maintain 10 min. mile pace for 2 miles - definite improvement. But I faded bad after that and had to walk most of the last mile. Jr. Now seems mostly hooked on CC. He ran with the team 3 times this week and we talked with the coach about his options. It's the high school team and he's going in to 8th grade. Most likely he'll train with them this year and maybe compete next. Still hoping he sticks with it.

The good and the possible bad:

The good, :D , I took 1st place in the time-handicapped Ultra leg of our race (by 4 minutes). Now I have to figure out how to get the awesome award.

The bad, :( , I believe I broke or cracked the top bone in my right thumb (fortunately, I'm a lefty). I'll know for sure in a day or two.

Congrats!

I'm assuming the breaking of the thumb wasn't Ultra related?! WTF!

Finally, I didn't know you were a lefty too! :hifive:

How?

Nice 52.12 mile week for me:

Mon: off

Tues: 7.31 miles/ 7:48 pace/ 127 average HR

Wed: 6.34/8:01/127

Thurs: 8.39 miles with 6 at tempo: 6:36/145, 6:29/150, 6:20/154, 6:19/158, 6:22/159, 6:00/161

Fri: 5.00/8:34/120. This included a mile 5 at 8:24/116 which is a low HR PR!

Sat: 20.02/7:27/136 Didn't bonk so I'm happy. I got goosebumps on a warm morning around mile 18 though. After all these years, I still have to figure out this hydration thing.

Sun: 5.05/8.02/133. Historically I've done long runs on Sunday and had an off day on Monday. I think this is the first time I've ever run after a 20 miler. Note the HR increase mainly from being tired!

I have a 5 mile race in two weeks that I'm treating almost as an A race. I'll put in another 50ish mile week next before resting the following week. After that, marathon training officially starts!

Nice week Juxt, I was feeling pretty good about myself after I finished my 18 on Sat until I saw you ran your 20 in less time than my 18. You're in really good shape, hopefully you'll have decent weather for your 5 miler.

On my end I had my 2nd 60 mile week in a row all at fairly easy pace. This time of year I like to focus on base building, I will probably start adding some quality workouts sometime in July.

Congratulations on the hardware, but how the hell did you manage to break your thumb?

He fell a number of times, so my theory revolves around that. Either that or his hitchhiking attempts went really south.

(BTW congrats!)

----

On my end just putting in the time. Got another 40 done today. Well over 90 degrees today (up to 99 on my readout) and the heat really wore me down today.

That's half of what I'll do in Scotland, but at least the temps over there will be massively milder.

Isn't that where EPO trees are grown?

Maybe I'll just split the difference and commit to 75.
On these rides you can just decide how you're feeling when the turnoff for the 75 hits. If it's 70 and cloudy your decision may be very different than if its 95 without a cloud in the sky. That said seeing the odometer roll over to triple digits is epic and awesome. If you're feeling good go for it.

----

On my end I'm just trying to rack up the miles here for my July excursion. Yesterday did my normal Tuesday ride and felt like puking half way through - riding balls out after being sick three days ain't a great idea. Who knew?

So I went out today to do a nice tempo ride with a fast group. Turned out they wanted a climbing day. Oof. Wasn't expecting that. On top of things the suck index was at about 150 - pretty much swimming. Planned on just hanging in. Just goes to show that some days are good and come out of nowhere. So on this ride I managed to climb the biggest climb in Birmingham at a significant PR. The full climb, which I've only done a dozen times or so, was a 25 second PR. Also somehow set a PR by 10 seconds on the shortened version of the climb which I've done 40 times or so - doing that after doing the initial part of the climb was something I sure didn't expect.

Oh, and set new power PRs from 5 through 10 minutes. 5 minutes now at 342w and 10 minutes at 317w. With these numbers if I actually lost 20lbs I could crack the top 10 on the long one. Too damn fat.

An unexpected good day - I'll take it!
BSG goal?
Make it up Snake with rubber side down. Same as last year.
Seems like you power is up this year. How's your endurance relative to last year? Sub 6 in the equation?
I'd need 25 minutes somewhere. I'd regard that as pretty unlikely, even with a good day. I'd have to nail George's Gap and take a good bit more out of Snake. And barely stop. So unlikely - I'd have to be really on and need perfect weather.
We'll see how you feel the night before. If the weather looks promising I would be glad to SAG and hand off bottles. It's that or ride 100 miles 30 pounds overweight on 0 training miles.
Didn't you do this last year? Glutton for punishment! I don't think I'll need a personal SAG. I think I can cut it down to 10 minutes of stops with regular stops.

Thanks! I find it amazing that you're running 60 mile weeks and you're not even marathon training!!

I've run this 5 mile race annually over the last 3 years and it's the only 5 mile race I've run. The weather has never been good which is good and bad. The good part is I only have to average under 6:24 to PR. I've been running tempos around that pace so I have some confidence.

Sand has it right. I fell hard 4 times and had several serious stumbles. On the first fall, around mile 14, I landed hard on my right palm and jammed my right thumb. The end of the fingernail started to blacken quite quickly. By this a.m., I was in some real pain. As I'll mention in the full race report, by the end, I just didn't trust myself to pick up the pace because my coordination was so poor ...a dynamic I've never faced before. Then again, I've never run for over 5 and 1/2 hours, either ...particular on technical, single track trail.
