Ran a 10k - Official Thread (13 Viewers)

In Minnesota right now. Beautiful weather. I may or may not run in the next ten days. Brought running gear, so I probably will enjoy those 50 degree mornings and run 3-4 times.
I love running when I travel.  It's actually easier for me to get out when I'm away from home than it is at home.

Get out there an discover new trails/paths/routes!

I know I could have pushed harder if I'd had someone pushing me for 2nd place, but given the humidity and temps in the 60s, I'll take it.
Yeah it's too bad first place was so fast.  If he was slower and in your sights that would have been a good motivator as well.

Regardless, grats on the podium, but sorry you didn't get your goal time.

Its like this thread content triggered ‘triathlon’ in my browser algorithm bc I just saw an almost sprint tri of .25m ocean swim / 10m bike /5k that almost makes me was to tri it. Almost.

Something wonky with the HRM on my new Garmin 245.  @gianmarco swears it's pretty accurate, but it says that I maxed out at 185 on my 5K last night (sounds right) and that I maxed out at 185 again on my 7-miler this morning.  No way I was working just as hard this morning as I was last night.  Any ideas?

Agreed 100%.  We're going to Italy (Sardinia) later this month.  Can't wait to get out there and run!

Hmm, not sure. Do you wipe the sensor after (or before) your runs?  Also, you don't have to crank this one as tight as the 235, imo. This one stays in place quite well without having to be firmly stuck to your skin.

It's turning into one of my favorite things when traveling. I've found I get to see more of a city as a result, too.

Do it!  To kind of reiterate what JAA said - if you know how to swim and ride a bike then you shouldn't have any issues.  Open water swims can be a lot different though so don't do anything crazy if you are not comfortable with that type of swim/distance.  :)

Exact opposite.  All the prep in getting ready to leave yesterday and this morning, any running got squeezed out.  On the road from lunch today until lunch tomorrow.  And I can't imagine running once we get down there.  So, maybe Sunday.  I don't remember the last time I went 3 days without running unless it was intentional.

You all must travel sans small humans.

Check your HR data from your Apple Watch during that time if you were wearing it as well.

Baby steps toward committing to fall marathon.  Booked hotel in Rehoboth for early December race. Will decide this month between that race (spent past few summers on most the course) or a local out and back in late Nov. Will check out the local option later this month before next set of race increases.

@pbm107 you are leaning Rehoboth dec 7, yes?

I don’t think my heart beat reaches my wrist. My readings were always ####e.  Happy livin that strap life.

Correct.  Don't have kids and also even if I did most of my travel is for work.
Makes sense.  This is part why I didn't make any tangible expectations for this month.  Another one end of July is why I'm keeping expectations reserved then too.  And both of them are big reasons why I wouldn't commit to a marathon this Fall at the beginning of the year.  Not expecting enough miles this summer without adjusting priorities, which I'm not going to do.

First Duck sighting and belated well wishes to him

184127Sean GroveM46Paso Picacho7.507:42am0 1:42:00On Course

28 hr pace 1:32

30 hr pace 1:41

cutoff 2:30

That section included a 900 ft climb and 800 ft of descent.  Next up is a 700 ft climb follow by a 1000 ft decent.  Then he'll get 20 miles of rollers.

Holy conga lines.  Duck is a group of 30 runners that were within 2 minutes of each other.

Issues at the second reporting station.  Leaders should have been through there 30 minutes ago.

All 270 runners made the first cutoff.  DFL is a 76 year old.  Props to him.
My bad.  They aren't reporting the DNFs on the leaderboard.  One female dropped after finishing 7.5 mi in 2:13.  Looks like one person either eaten by a bear or just unaccounted for.

Two leaders through Chambers 12.5 at 1:57.  That must be some technical 5 miles because the leader did the climb at 8:56 pace and then dropped off to 10:00 for the decent.

Duck should hit the next station in about 15 minutes, although I'll predict he pulls back to time on the 30 hr pace chart.

Note that reporting is about 20-25 minutes behind.

Interesting...Front of pack was losing about a minute a mile over section 2 but minute of the mid packers are keeping the same pace.

Currently at 134 into aid station 2, they were about 8 minutes ahead of Duck.  Duck was 184th at aid station one.  Placements up or down aren't telling at this point with the large groups.

18 people into aid station 2 with the same time as Duck.  That's mind boggling.

Duck is 4 min behind his 30 pace chart and lost 3 min towards that this section.  He's 62 minutes ahead of the cutoff and gain 13 minutes on the sweeper that section.

The next 24 miles don't have any major climbs.  Get in you groove Mr. Grove and knockout some miles.

Fascinating stuff.  I’m going camping again tonight so I’ll miss the duck updates.   You can be sure when i get to my campsite tonight I’ll see if i have cell service to check in on @SFBayDuck.

go get ‘em Duck!!!!

Leaders in at mile 21.  Hammer blistered this section at 8:00 to open up a minute leader on Bitter who ran 8:07.  Both were about 2 minutes faster over this section.

6 runners still not in at 12.5.  We have our second drop at mile 12.5, 48 yo male.

About one hour until Duck checks in at station 3.  Predicting 1:50 edt

My second favorite runner 76 yo Mr. DFL checks in at 12.5 with a 3:43 time, 17 minutes in front of the cutoff.

in the past, being with a big pack early has helped me ensure that I didn't start burning matches too soon... just settling into a groove and letting the race come to me, then start opening it up further into things.  those were 100 mile MTB races, NOT a 100 run tho.  Hopefully this is the case with Duck.

I was reading the course directions earlier.  Duck's biggest obstacle is going to be staying on course.  Hopefully it's not as bad as it reads so he can focus on enjoying the adventure and not navigation.

He's a finish strong type of runner.  He trains enough and is harden enough that his body doesn't fall apart.  His biggest issue is processing nutrition.

Just got an email from Go! St. Louis.  Some crazy good/interesting news.

1)  The new format they had to come up with that we ran was loved by almost all.  As a result, they are adding it as a permanent race.  Because SIUE is a college campus, it has to be in late spring (like this year) in order to hold it.  Thus, this will be a yearly event starting next year.

2)  Because of this, they are going to move the original KT82 relay race to the fall.  In the past, the city of Hermann has been opposed because of the big Oktoberfest they do each year (it's a German town).  But, it looks like it's going to be in September.  And they are doing one THIS YEAR and then continuing every year in the fall.  Next 2 dates are 9/14/19 and then 9/12/20.

3)  We get guaranteed entry if we want it.

4)  We get $100 off an entry if we want it.

I'm not even sure whether to ask or not, but just throwing that info out there............................

100mi MTB sounds ridiculous
