Randy Moss (1 Viewer)

As an Eagles fan, I would be more than heart-attack-stunned if Moss landed with the Eagles.

No chance in hell of it happening as long as Reid is here IMO.
Why?
Because it destroyed team chemistry and infuriated the fans during the fallout. Because it divided the locker room (which by the way has never recovered). And, most of all, because Reid and his staff have made it quite clear that they don't believe the WR position is one that requires/warrants monster dollars or focus.

Again, I'll keep saying this, Moss will be tagged if they don't come to terms on a deal. Why anyone would think the Patriots would make him a lowball offer is beyond me.
I can't see how you can bring up the T.O. situation and then turn around and say "Reid and his staff have made it quite clear that they don't believe the WR position is one that requires/warrants monster dollars or focus." Because they had that philosophy before, and they aggressively pursued T.O. anyway. While most of the time they don't go after top notch talent, they have already PROVEN that if they feel a top WR will put them over the hump (as it did), they will get one (as they did). I'm also willing to give Randy the benefit of the doubt that he has matured a lot since MIN and OAK. He did nothing but excel on the field last year, while being a great teammate. Some people mature later than others but that doesn't mean they never will.

I'm not saying that the Eagles will go after him for sure, but I also think that if the Pats can't keep him around that it's naive to think that there is no chance in hell he goes to the Birds.

Going out one time and getting a WR doesn't convince me they'll do it again. Time after time after time they neglected the WR position. Including the last two years, to some degree at least. Just because they do something one time out of 100 doesn't mean they'll do it again, especially when the results of that, as Wood said, "destroyed team chemistry and infuriated the fans during the fallout. Because it divided the locker room"

Moss has had behavior problems pretty much his whole career except last year. And why would he have been upset last year? They finished the regular season undefeated and he broke all kinds of records. Of course he wasn't going to be upset. But how will he act when he returns to an earthly team? I doubt the Eagles want to take a chance on such a risky behavior case

Eagles have shown time and time again they feel that money is better spent elsewhere.

If we're to believe the ESPN talking heads (and local beat writers jumping on the same story), it's the OTHER marquee Patriots free agent the Eagles are after. Word is Eagles are going hard after Asante Samuel and have given Lito Sheppard's agent permission to negotiate a new deal and trade terms with other teams.
Howard Eskin begs to differ with you...I'm paraphrasing, but he said the the rumors of Lito being asked to shop himself is 100%, absolutely, no-doubt-in-my-mind, FALSE.I would laugh hard if the Iggles somehow found a way to get moss and he turned into TO Jr. That was some fun times for sure...situps in his driveway and all...
I have no horse in the race, John Clayton says it's happened, Howard Eskin says it hasn't. I will tell you quite emphatically (as I'm sure you already know), Eskin is about as plugged in as you or I but thinks he's totally connected. He's been more wrong than right about every major Philly sports move forever. He said "NO WAY" to TO, he said "NO WAY THEY'LL TRADE IVERSON" literally weeks before they did, etc...Again, I don't know if the Lito rumors are true or not, just that the rumor is out there (and Eskin saying otherwise doesn't convince me one way or another).
;) Eskin is absolutely worthless and I hope no one actually takes him seriously.

I believe the deadline for the franchise tag was today... no word that the Pats slapped Moss with the tag... to the FA market he goes...

Maybe the football gods will smile on us and keep the "loser of the superbowl" curse alive for the Pats next year

The deadline is 4 PM today.

Moss was not tagged...so that Pats are counting that he will want to stay a Patriot and take less money for a better chance to win a ring..... :football:

WEEI has just announced there is speculation that Randy Moss has signed a multi-year deal with New England.

Terms will be announced on Feb 29th.

Again, this is speculation.

If he signed with the Pats they dont have to wait to the 29th to say . They could have locked him to a contarct. BUT ONE THING I DO KNOW IS I HOPE THE EAGLES DO NOT GO AFTER HIM.

Actually, they do. Because he restructured his deal last year, and you can't restructure a deal more than once a year, they have to wait until it is officially the end of the 2007 season, 2/29.

Right, much better options in the current stable.

That is correct...from boston.comThe deadline for placing franchise tags on players has passed, and the Patriots have not tagged WR Randy Moss.

That could mean that the sides have agreed to a multi-year contract. Yet a multi-year contract can not be announced until the 2008 league year begins Feb. 29, because players can not extend/restructure more than once in a league year. Moss had restructured his deal in April to consummate his trade to New England.

The Patriots did not place the franchise tag on any player.

What's the point of this stupid rule if you can just circumvent it by negotiating a deal under the table and waiting a week to announce it?

No maybe not better otpions in the current stable . Much but better options in the nfl to trade for . Moss is old . never liked his atatude bring me on a young player with talent ..fitz..williams..make a hard bid for one of those guys dont bring in a head case that when things dont go good . He is a cancer . like we already seen before. No thanks he looks nice up there with Brady let him be.

It would be interesting to see.

Moss and Curtis could be the Moss Welker combo. Brown would sure see his numbers spike upwards. Combined with Westbrook and a healthy mcnabb, that would be sick.

Look at McNabbs career numbers then realize the WRs he had, imagine if he had Moss...sick

while it may sound like piling on, we are talking about New England here. The "rules" do not really apply to them.

you mean like teams with the 1st pick negotiating a contract before the draft the player and well before the player is able to sign a contract

Agreed. If McNabb could stay healthy for the full season, we could be looking at some record #s with that lineup. Throw in LJ Smith, who's a pretty solid receiving TE, and it would be fun to watch. Reid loves to throw all day as it is. With Moss in that mix stretching the field, they'd cause some serious matchup problems. Potential record #s for sure. I dont know that Curtis can pull off that unreal slot work that Welker put in last year, because theyre really different type receivers, but Im sure they'd figure something out.
