RB Chase Brown, CIN (1 Viewer)

54 catches for 360 yds, not very efficient IMHO
Played at a small high school in Florida as well as Canada, went to Western Michigan, 5th round pick, let's not overhype this guy
He clearly does not ooze talent
TD dependent I would say

He's a "Wagon Queen Family Truckster" and he'll get you from Point A to Point B because he has superior and I mean SUPERIOR talent around him at QB-WR1-WR2
Let's not make it out like Brown is blazing a trail. He does what he's told, he listens to Burrow, he's a take orders type
229 carries for 990 yards

i do not see the raw talent that other RBs bring to the table
You're just hoping he falls into the end zone most weeks
I can respect that but he's about the least talented RB of anyone drafted around him and that's just my opinion
You haven’t watched enough Brown IMO.

Kid’s electric with the ball in his hands. Good vision, quick feet, burst, and surprising power. He’s got lateral shiftiness, but doesn’t dance around behind the line. Knows his reads, and busts through as soon as he sees daylight. And he’s fluid as a receiver.

I’m a little shocked folks are still saying this kinda thing after what he did last year.

My only complaints about CB are that I was only able to buy low on him in 2 of my 3 dynasty teams last year, and that I missed him in both of my start-ups this year. He’s legit.

How electric is 6 yds a catch? He didn't even clear 1,000 yds rushing and had he only punched in 6 TDs I don't even think we'd be having this conversation
You are entitled, no doubt but i also can voice some concerns and the fact he doesn't measure up to most that go before him and I question his talent

He's lucky he is getting touches in this offense, I don't feel the production shows he can exploit
He's a mule IMO and it has nothing to do with you HSG, you're a standup poster and I do respect your opinion but his skill set vs others in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th...I'm not a fan
And I get it, he might do OK in this offense but that's not saying much when you factor in QB-WR1-WR2, he's fortunate to pay fr the Bengals
He's Jabba the Hut fodder in training camp on any other roster

Cmon, this is a schtick, right?
I'm just pinning the tail on the donkey here, they can't all be studs in the first 4-5 rounds, Brown is a relatively easy target IMHO
JAG in most offenses, others are free to rebuke

I prefer Swift 2 rounds later and would gladly take most WRs I see passed up around Chase Brown, again others can feel different.
I point to a relatively low yds per carry and a very average yds per catch, he's not a playmaker to me

I’m reasonably certain that Swift 3 rounds later will deliver value nowhere near Chase 3 rounds earlier. To me Swift is the ultimate dead zone RB this year.

Nominally named the starter. Will share carries with Johnson & Kylie Minogue or whatever that rookies name is. And he’ll be the last of the trio on the GL. Plus his coach seems to hate him based on past experience. lol

We will have to revisit this at the end of the season to see how this whole “swift 3 rounds later” thing shakes out.

Respect your take, but respectfully, cmon.

Cmon, this is a schtick, right?
unfortunately, probably not
I want to be clear, sincerely appreciate the opposing POV, I just don't like the talent vs the price tag
I accept that many overlook that aspect and focus more on the entire offense and what Chase can do with that much talent around him
I don't see the playmaking ability that others are excited about, it seems to me that it's due to the offense and talent around him vs what he actually does
I'm not rooting against him, there isn't much there to challenge him so I don't have anywhere to point to as a possible hurdle, maybe that should weigh more on my "opinion"
And that's all it is really, I get these vibes and i vocalize/post them

Many of you are sold on him or all in in 2025, don't let the Diary of a Madman shake you.
I've been around a long time, seen many players come and go, just not that impressed with Brown.
He's cheap for the Bengals and that fits their organizational model so maybe he will succeed.

Lamatr Jackson is taken right before Brown and then Ladd McConkey after
Chase is being projected as a potential late 2nd round pick, Swift is a mid 5th with very little pushing him for touches just like Brown
Tee Higgins and Joe Burrow are drafted after Chase Brown, that just doesn't feel right to me

I appreciate both you and @Hot Sauce Guy giving me a chance/opp to voice my opinion, you really can't ask for more than that.
When I'm wrong HSG, bump this for me please about Week 6-8 (y)

I’ll give it a full season my friend. All in good fun - always happy to engage.

We’re also having 3 convos:
1. Chase Brown is good yes/no
2. Chase Brown not as good a value as other players on the board in the 3rd (I may agree with this depending who falls to me)
3. Chase Brown a worse value than Swift 3 rounds later.

I’d be willing to agree with you on 1 of those 3 points, draft dependent. It’s possible if I’m picking 1.04 that by 3.04 Brown actually does represent the best value as my RB1 after I’ve gone J. Chase ~> BTJ

So that one’s TBD & will vary draft to draft. Fair.

The other two I disagree with. I believe 1. Brown is better than you’re giving him credit for, and 2. Swift 3 rounds later will not prove to be a better value for return.
:)

That’s why ya gotta watch the game on the field and not the stats on the screen.
:pickle:
Stats can be misleading Here are two RB's who've been in the league 2 years
RB1 - 7.6 yards per catch, 85.0% catch percentage
RB2 - 7.5 yards per catch, 84.7% catch percentage

Chase Brown is a better receiving RB than De'Von Achane

Sorry man, no one that's actually watched Chase Brown would say he went to Western Michigan......

Just seems like a lot of box score / bio / wiki analysis here.

ILL
I've watched him plenty on the Ticket, I'm just tracing him back to the roots
Don't dismiss his resume, he built it not me.

And if you read all these posts, it's better when you have someone like me taking the other side, otherwise it's just glad handing and patting folks on the back, "Good Pick"
You don't want that from me

It's better when HSG and I find something to disagree about, we pat each other on the back all the time meaning we agree on many things which is why I feel comfortable being real
I believe people will like to read this exchange a lot more and it will either strengthen what they already feel about Brown like you obviously do and it might make others pause for a second
I find other players around him to be of more value to the team I want to build this year.

I don't get the Achane love. Smaller back in an offense on the verge of imploding.
He is going to get overused and hurt.

Give me Brown a round later all day.

FFers love speed and big plays, Achane offers that and has a nice floor due to receiving production. I do tend to agree about concerns of injury and I do not have confidence that Miami is trending in the right direction. I would consider Brown a safer pick for this upcoming season but Achane is one of a handful that if things fall right has a chance at RB1 imo.

I have a strong feeling that the Chase Brown advocates are going to end up disappointed this season.

He looked good but really had an optimal situation for a RB like him to look great. That passing game drew a lot of attention away from the D and that created a lot more openings for him. He ran against light boxes 57% of the time. If you look at his FF pts per touch, his yds created per touch, and his reception production stats, given the opportunity his performance was downright mediocre.

The real reason he did well was because he didn’t have a lot of quality competition for work. I believe that changes this year with the addition of Tahj Brooks, who I was already very high on before he joined a RB room where there would be so much opportunity.

We’ll see, but right now I see Brown as a buyer beware given how some in the FF community are viewing him.

When I started reading this I thought "what has changed".......but now I see you believe Brooks is the change and will earn a big share of touches. If he doesn't then everything about last year will still be the same for this year. I like Brooks too but I am not sure that he will earn enough to knock Brown down that much. I am for sure targeting Brooks as a late pick but I think it will take a Brown injury for it to matter this year.

Would you rather keep Bowers for an 8th or Chase Brown for a 7th?
How many keepers? Do you have to start a TE? Is it TE premium?

Assuming a typical league I would keep Brown.
2 keepers. 1 TE and 1 FLEX (WR/TE/RB). 12 man league. 0.5 PPR.
I am seeing a bit of a downturn in targets for Bowers so I would be keeping Brown. Only thing that may sway that is if you know all the top TE's are being kept and you will be stuck with no options in the draft.

In terms of injury history, he played in all 17 games last year so his injury risk shouldn't be any higher than the average RB pick IMO. Also, last year, the Dolphins essentially had practice squad QB half the year and he still delivered a great floor.

One key stat was just how much MIA relied on safety valve dumpoff passes to Achane and Jonnu Smith, and Jonnu Smith is no longer in town...

That said, I do prefer Brown a round later, although he's been creeping into round 2 more and more.

Just tell them "Good Pick" at this point. When I saw comparisons of Chase Brown to De'Von Achane who runs a 4.28 or better...I tap out
Achane was never hurt in college, got dinged a lot his rookie season and then played all 17 last year but people see what the want to see

Why??

After Brown became the starter in week 4, he averaged more fantasy points per game than Achane. 18.3 to 17.

It was a pick six.

To paraphrase what I said in the Kyren thread, for fantasy production, especially in redraft, situation matters just as much as talent. The "he's lucky on the Bengals" argument? In redraft, I say, "Good!" I still say that in my keep-4 league, not that I expect him to be available in the auction. I don't play dynasty so I don't care what might happen with him 3 or 4 years from now.

Achane is a near elite receiving RB based on what I've seen. It's on tape from high school when he lined up as an outside WR and showed great hands. Caught 65 passes in college, checkout the great wheel route catch vs Alabama. I don’t think he's dropped more than 1 catchable pass in the NFL and he's made many tough catches. They should utilize him on more routes over the middle or downfield. Chase is also near elite as a receiving RB with the advantage of a better QB.

Listening to Kluges podcast now and he mentioned how Brown thought his biggest weakness last year was his receiving ability. He apparently spent the offseason working with WR coaches on his receiving game.

Dude is gonna be a monster this year. Will be my most heavily targeted RB this year.

Redraft
2.08/2.09 in my most recent Redrafts, wonder if anyone can still shag him in the early to mid 3rd.
This place is in love with him, I think he is taken a little high now, where does it end? 1st round pick in 2026?
Don't laugh because that's what you are saying when you take him this high. Nowhere to go but down

280 touches a year ago, 1,350/11TD, over 50 catches, he's just a pinball machine of fun for many investors out there
Won't be on my team at that price but I wish folks the best of luck with him, maybe he is set for 300+ touches and more double digit TDs
I did see Chase drafted ahead of Jacobs and Taylor which seems a little high IMHO, but I understand after the convoy of RBs is gone towards the end of the2nd round,
I do understand why folks take the plunge and hope the numbers are exactly as they were a year ago

I could see Kamara getting almost as many as Brown and he's more of a 4th round pick, people are having visions of Top 5 overall, I just can't get there.
It does dry up fast after the 2/3 turn, 3/4 turn, depending on what you took in the 1st will dictate how Brown fits.
He was selected as an RB1 both drafts and paired with JJ or CDL...one went Hubbard-Etienne and the other Hubbard-Monty so the same appetite for Chase also finds Hubbard as a safe port, Monty is a safe choice for many.

The Bengals are utilizing RB Chase Brown “more split out wide versus linebackers” and have “restructured the run game specifically around his skill set.”
Beat writers suggesting that a starting running back could line up as a receiver more often is a common theme among summer puff pieces. We should not fully expect Brown to suddenly be treated as a part-time wide receiver pre-snap, but it’s reasonable to believe that he could see increased passing game usage this season. Over the last three years, the Bengals have led the league in neutral game passing rates twice. Reports continue to suggest Brown will maintain a featured role while receiving RB Samaje Perine takes on a “lesser version” of his prior 3rd-down role. The Bengals’ ground game restructure also bodes positively for his rushing efficiency. Brown profiles as a high-upside RB1 available at the Rounds 2-3 turn.

I traded the 2.12 I was going to take him with to trade up for Kendre Miller. I had my backs picked out. I had the 1.12, 2.06, and 2.12. I forget who I wanted at 2.06 but I didn't get him, but Chase Brown was there at 2.12.

Kendre Miller. God. They've revamped the whole Bengals offense around Chase Brown. I'm not late to the party; this guy has always had borderline star written all over him. His makeup (and his brother's makeup) is also first rate.
