Just doesn't seem worth the extra hits you're bound to take returning punts. NFL highlights are filled with punt returners getting jacked up...why risk your superstar on something that your 4th string receiver can do at an acceptable level.
It's just 4-6 extra hits per game that your stud has to take and doesn't need to.
Well you can put your hand up and not get hit when returning punts. Don't have that option in the backfield.

Not yet. He had a tough day today but I'm encouraged by his usage and he basically got the touches I expected which was nice to see. I did not like seeing him lose a fumble, which is something he rarely did in college. I still think this guy will be a perennial pro-bowler but he is adjusting to the speed and strength of the NFL and it may not come immediately or even this season. He's a young 21, so nothing but upside for him but I don't know if he'll be the stud this season that I know he'll eventually be. I think he's going to have some great games against softer defenses this season, no doubt. His consistency may not be there right away and that should be expected by a rookie. Hopefully everyone sees how he can handle the load of 20 touch RB. He'll get better and he will be great. I'm excited to be a dynasty owner.

He's a legit playmaker, no doubt. But I thought Reggie Bush-esque (circa 2006) "he's going to change the way football is played in the NFL" hype was a bit much.
Really amped about all the rookie RBs, we've been looking forward to this class for years.

mccaffery over hunt in my rookie dyno draft. Major flub. It's clear that the panthers view mccaffery as a gadget player and not a potentially feature back.

They don't view him as a gadget player, and he would have had an easy touchdown if Cam hadn't thrown the pass out of his reach. He was wide open.
He was wide open and I saw that play. But 8 rushes? Not gonna cut it. After hearing Rivera's comments midweek about not wanting to wear out his new toy, color me concerned. You'd think he was talking about Dion Lewis or amendola.
The talent is there, but I'm thinking that my biggest concerns about mccaffery are coming to fruition. His coaches are morons and have no clue how to use him.

Ironically, I made the Tarik Cohen comparison earlier and the ranks of CMC supporters thought this too negative a comparison.
Exactly, they view him as a complementary player. To be fair to them, they CONSISTENTLY said this, but lots of people on here thought this was some kind of clever bluff while their actual plan was to turn him into their lead back.

If only Cam didn't steal all his goal line carries he'd be top 3 every week. Maybe the dumb panthers wise up soon. When is his contract up/does anyone think he'll hold out for a trade this week?

I've had to adjust my personal expectations for what he will be this year. Now I view him as a boom or bust low end rb2.

Good showing today, although I don't like him only getting 4 carries. 9 receptions isn't sustainable (or maybe it is with no Olsen and perhaps Benjamin for awhile). Either way, he started heating up in the 2nd half then Cam threw that pick and the momentum was gone and game was over. The coaches need to get more creative on his routes like the one long catch he had. Everything doesn't have to be a 5 yard out/in pattern. The dude can run routes and he can run the ball inside too.
I've been a hyper from a dynasty perspective from the get go and let that bleed into the re-draft season. I think he's going to take a year or so to really blossom into the all-pro I know he will become. He's a 21 year old kid and the game will only get slower for him. He already looks really good but he's only going to get better. This season will be a lot of inconsistency from this offense.

Yup loved the usage today. Especially in a game where Cam was pathetic and entire offense was anemic. TDs will come.
But agree. More wheel routes, etc. Everything doesn't have to just be check down in the flat.
Still lamenting not taking Cook over him at 1.2. In ppr though, CMC is going to be a rock solid steady performer with very high floor.

He badly needs a big TD game. I remember when people said that Reggie Bush's TD's would come. They never really did. I own CMC on all of my teams and am not panicking yet (100 yards receiving is nice) but he needs to start scoring to compete with his contemporaries. He regularly took over games in college. Right now, he looks like a high end third down back to me. He can do all kinds of stuff, but it's hard to predict what he'll do.
Absolutely. Having major regrets for not taking fournette or cook over him. Hopefully long term the others allow him to blossom to his full potential.

Cam and his coaches are holding him back, imo. Although, to Cam's credit, he is giving him opportunities. Last week he missed CMC on a guaranteed TD. The coaches need to dedicate 20+ touches to CMC. Stop treating him like he can't handle the load because he absolutely can. He needs at least 15 carries to go along with 8+ passing targets per game, imo. If they dedicate their offense to that kind of usage, he can be great.

If Cam is smart, as he gets older he'll replace a lot of the running he does with dump offs to guys like CMC.

Is Stewart's contract up next year? I hope it is, because I suspect Stewart's effectiveness is holding CMAC back more than the coaches.

Dude did nothing and still netted me 12 in .5ppr return yardage league. Very happy with floor. Just hoping week 3 wasn't the ceiling.
Another one (I also said this in the mixon thread) where it's possible he just isn't as good as I thought he would/could be in the NFL.
Have him in 2 leagues. No tds. Looks poor running bw tackles. Perhaps the glorified Danny woodhead comps were more spot on than we thought.

I traded a boatload to draft him in at #1 my dynasty league. Went back and fourth between him and Cook. (Vikings homer that hated Fournette) Was thinking today about what it would take to get Cook from the owner that drafted him at #2...then just minutes later I watched as Cook went down.

Funny you say that. I just offered McCaffrey and Brandin Cook for Dalvin and Michael Thomas.
Even with the cook injury its close but I still think I'd rather him than mccaffery. Mcaffery is basically a gadget wr on that offense. He has value in ppr leagues don't get me wrong. But he's not going to return the #1 rookie draft pick value that I spent on him this season. Next year maybe Stewart will be gone. But the panthers will likely bring in another banger to carry the ball and keep mccaffery in this role.
He will have some blow up weeks but most weeks you're looking at a nice ppr floor with a limited ceiling.

Rivera doesn't strike me as someone who doesn't know what he's doing. Just two years ago he was in the Super Bowl. I would imagine for whatever reason CMC is just not ready. These coaches have a really good grasp of these players mental & physical capabilities often times we as fantasy owners want an immediate return on our investments but reality and perception are at odds sometimes. This is the life of fantasy football.

Fantasy owners don't want their players returning kicks because in most leagues there's no reward for that, only risk. That isn't the case in the NFL, which is why you sometimes see guys like Antonio Brown still return punts. In a way, returning kicks is part of the special package of plays for CMac, it puts the ball in his hands (often with some space).
