RB Christian McCaffrey, SF (27 Viewers)

I would think since the NFL went to 17 games, most leagues would start playoffs week 15 to avoid this.
In a league with 14 teams there is a nice natural schedule where everyone plays each other one time (13 weeks) and then playoffs start week 14.
You made me check my league.. We don't start until week 15 so this doesn't really matter to me.. But it sure would not be nice not starting guys like CMC or Nabers in your playoff game..

I just don’t get how you can take him with your first two picks considering the injury risk. He’s 29 with a TON of touches in his career (he’s more like a 32 year old player) and that injury can pop up again at anytime. It’s not going to get better with more reps .. I would be shocked if he finished the season healthy.
sure. you can justify it that way.

or you can look at his injury history.

he started his rookie season but did not get a full workload.
next 2 seasons he did get a full workload and put up some big numbers.
following 2 seasons he was injured for the majority.
then 2 seasons where he was mostly heatlhy.
then last season mostly injured.

so he has been healthy 2 of the last 5 years. Not great numbers.

I fully agree hes young enough and still capable of putting up big numbers. but hes a lotto pick. you are getting a big year or a bust (due to injury)

what is concerning is hes one year away from the age 30 and has been injury prone for the last few years. as he gets older now the odds of injury go up. Not down.

hes a guy you need to be a bit careful when acquiring. if the price is right and he has the ability to give you that boost that puts you over the top.... maybe you go for it. swing for the fences even if you think theres only a 40% chance he does it.

but if you are not in a position to win a title if he performs, there is NO point in paying top dollar for him.

Reports from 49ers training camp today:

Ladies & Gentlemen, Christian McCaffrey is back. He looks like his old self and maybe even faster than before. He made the crowd roar multiple times with his explosive plays.

Safe to say Christian McCaffrey has not lost a step. Explosivity comes to kind (if that’s even a word)

Christian McCaffrey looks very explosive in team drills today, several big runs had the crowd amped up.

Looks to me like Christian McCaffrey has gained a step

Christian McCaffrey is healthy...With no Deebo, no Jordan Mason, and perhaps the NFL’s easiest schedule. You’re getting the RB1 ceiling at a discount. Don’t overthink it...

Assuming he stays healthy through the point of any redraft, I would absolutely take him in the late 1st. There is a chance he is a league winner at that position, tied exclusively to the probability he stays healthy. If healthy, he is a top 3 RB, maybe RB1. Each owner has to decide what they think about the risk-reward. I would take him as of today.

Jeanty or CMC?
I believe the answer is obvious, depending on which format. Redraft, it’s CMC. Dynasty it’s Jeanty.

I will say, if it is dynasty, CMC may be a league winner for ONE more year. But I’d still take Jeanty there.
Best ball 0.5 point PPR redraft CMC is RB4 behind BiJan, Barkley and Gibbs going at 8 overall.

Jeanty RB5 going anywhere from 10-15 overall mixed in with guys at the 1-2 turn. Followed quickly by Henry and Achane.

So what's CMC's value in a dynasty trade these days?
Not sure, but in most cases I would imagine sellers will want more than buyers will pay. One of the harder values to determine imo.

I'm shopping him and not having any luck really. One guy offered a 3rd...everyone else is pretty much saying no
I would think he at least command a 2nd from a contender
I traded CMC for a 2027 1st. Buyers team is aging so rolling the dice for a high pick

In the 3 startups I have done fairly recently, he is going towards the end of the 4th so a first rounder plus is the probable cost. But a high pick in 2027 is a good value since that draft is loaded. If it was a 2026 pick, I would be looking for more than just a 1st.

I was offered Garret Wilson, Jaylen Warren, 2nd & 3rd round rookie picks for my CMC and 1.2 rookie pick. I am not close to interested in that. Other than CMC & Henry, I have nothing at RB so I need that 1.2 to take Hampton with no RB in the deal

Yeah that’s a hard pass.

No one is selling CMC for a random 2nd. It's the classic case of owners wanting more than buyers.

I've bought CMC in three places recently:

1.) Gave Laporta got CMC/2nd/3rd -- It's a bestball, superflex, TE premium scoring league
2.) Gave Chase Brown got CMC
3.) Gave Odunze/'26 1st got CMC/AJB

I don't usually like buying aging vets for anything more than 2nd's because you can't trade them. I'm betting on two years of high-end RB1 production for contending teams. CMC moves the needle as much as anyone when healthy.

That 3rd deal is wild to me. I would argue you got CMC for free, as I'd be ok paying Odunze/2026 1st, just for AJ as a contender.

Oh cmon now. This is getting silly. Even I’d pay a 2nd.

I think in the end lots of people just aren't believers he will hold up. The guy has been injured a lot and this group has been doing fantasy for 35 years. They have long memories...
Any of those long memories include CMC single-handedly making fantasy football teams contenders or winners? I am hoping for him in every redraft I am in... high upside and worthy of late 1st or early 2nd investment.

I don't want to own him long-term but seems worth the investment on a one year team. I've definitely made dumber decisions.

San Francisco could be the Kittle & McCaffrey show this year...

Every single 49ers beat writer has said that Christian McCaffrey looks incredible and fast af. Maybe the year off helped him regain some explosiveness…

This is great and all, but I need to see an entire training camp, with him doing full sprints like this for an extended amount of time before I would consider drafting him. Achilles Tendinitis has a very high recurrence rate.

I need to see that + a sworn affidavit from his personal trainer, and also statements from 3 character witnesses who will vouch for that trainer’s honesty.

Whatever it takes, my good man. Long as they vouch for his dude. Otherwise I’m out.

And I think you summed up why he's hard to ship in a dynasty format

Yeah but a 3rd is preposterous for any starting RB with (just about) any medical condition.

Just offered Chuba Hubbard, Nick Chubb and pick 2.07 for CMC. The other owner expressed interest in Hubba / Chubb (they almost need to be traded together for the fun word play). I have no idea if I'm overpaying or under-offering. I'm ready to deal both of those guys and I'm a buy-low guy on CMC. Pretty sure he's going to come back asking for Zay Flowers or AJ Brown from me which would hurt but could land the deal.

If I were on the other end of that trade I wouldn't give up CMC for that. I'd rather take the chance CMC is a league winner.

So if you believe he’s healthy, how do you pass as a top 3’

Feels like he’s a guy that’s effectively too 5, top 3 or even 1.01 or he’s on your do not draft list

Fascinating guy, have any twitter docs weighed in on him? Are those injuries degenerative?

Yep, he passed. I sweetened with Flowers.

I own CMC (and he's almost single handedly won me 3 titles) and I think your first offer was fair/close.
Irrelevant but with my roster construction in that league, I'd absolutely take Hubbard/Chubb/Flowers for him.

Ya, I thought he might take offer #2. Nope, he's gonna roll the dice that CMC is back and healthy.

CMC's type of injuries have a high chance of recurring from what I've read. That's what scares me off at ADP.

I've become pretty risk averse with my first couple round picks, taking more risk later in drafts.

Yep.

It could happen at any time. I heard CMC talk about it last year. It just flares up out of the blue -calf feels tight one day, next thing you know you’re out half the season.

He looks awesome. As a 49ers fan I’m extremely happy to see that.

As a FF manager I’m not interested in the risk this year. I completely understand why others would be.

I am going to do it again despite being burned taking him last year at 1.1; drafting CMC and now he's at a discount in FF drafts. All in on Purdy too; the 9ers have a really good SOS as well.
