RB James Cook, BUF (1 Viewer)

Cook will probably dig his heels in as he will turn 26 at the beginning of the season and this is his shot to collect.
They drafted a very competent Ray Davis. They have Ty Johnson as well.

Cook can dig in his heels all he wants, he has zero leverage here.
It is sad when a WR3 gets paid more than a RB1 but that is the state of the NFL right now. Especially when RBs have a much shorter shelf life.

This season is way too important to the Bills to worry about this stuff. Trade him, cut him, whatever. Get rid of the distraction.

That seems like an overreaction to me.

I mean, if he want $10M and the Bills don’t want to give him $10M, that probably the correct reaction.

Doesn't appear to have any leverage here. I'll forecast he plays for half of what he wants which would be 5 million. That's a lot of cheddar. Play then regroup. You took your shot. Didn't work. Have another good year then try again. Tough spot..

Best thing he could probably get accomplished this off-season is to try and use whatever hold-in/buy-in leverage he can to see if they can get the Bills to agree to not tag him next off-season.

The Bills have a mission this year. Super Bowl or bust. Everyone else is on board and fully bought in. There’s no room for distractions and selfishness.
You wanna talk about overreactions? The dude has put his house up for sale because he’s upset.
This is Josh’s offense. He’s great when he’s on the field and not a distraction. But they don’t need him. I’d say goodbye.

You think Ray Davis is ready for a larger role? I thought he looked good when given the opportunity, but he Bill’s would seemingly miss Cook’s explosive capabilities. I do wonder how much the Bill’s value Cook however, him not even being on the field the final drive of playoffs sticks out to. How do you pay a guy elite money for his position if you don’t even want him out on the most important drive of your season?

I think we got that answer when he said he wanted $10M & the Bills said crickets. 🦗
I thought it was reported he wanted 15m, but I agree. On top of them making several signings already makes you wonder if there is any intent to re-sign.

Maybe it was $15M - can’t recall, but yeah, they politely told him to pound sand.

He is in a tight spot. On a good team with a chance of a SB run. Just off a great season and realistically the only way ahead is slight regression Has at least 1 very good back up. But the FA crop next year at his position is insanely good.

Right now he has little leverage and looking ahead he probably sees even less leverage next year.

My guess is he wants an extension with secure money for as long as he can. But the security will come at a salary discount.

Right now its advantage Buffalo. Let's see how it develops.

Cook is an elite back and most any team would be glad to have him. He’s going to have to play nice and work with the Bills to get a reasonable extension that he deserves. The Bills have cap issues and need him to win a SB.

I think Cook is a great fit for the BUF offense. I’m not sure he’d be as good on some other teams.

But so long as he’s in BUF he’s going to put up elite numbers. If I had shares I’d strongly consider selling if BUF doesn’t re-sign him after 2025.
