True. But there were rumblings of a trade before the season started. Monty's contract is up after this year, Herbert fits the new scheme better and is clearly running better. Monty has more value to the team to be traded now, plus...there were multiple teams interested in CMC, those teams clearly were in need of a RB. Time will tell.

I think a Monty trade is wishful thinking...the Bears coachs and GM need to win to keep their jobs. It's not fantasy football and you don't trade a player just because they're a FA next year when you have 2/3 of your season left. Herbert hasn't even dominated the touches in a game yet when Monty was healthy. The CMC trade makes sense because he's a big cap #, they got a great return, they fired their coach, are doing a complete reboot and likely are tanking for the #1 pick.

I'm a Herbert owner BTW.

I have Herbert rostered because he seems like a potentially high volume backup. But basing Herbert v Monty on YPC is very one dimensional thinking. There is a lot more that goes into being a good RB than YPC.

Herbert is clearly lacking in certain areas that are necessary to be a reliable RB.

I agree with this. As some other posters have said Monty is a great leader and motivator for the team. Those are things that won’t show up on a stat sheet but are hugely valuable. And that is a piece that is really hard to get rid of.

Just saw a tweet that the chiefs may be interested in Monty. So, while that may not happen, it’s not as a far fetched as some may think.

Should have posted it. Was making coffee and juggling kids and breakfast.

And yes, it’s just a rumor. So it could hold as much validity as my drunk brother in law.

True. I also think it's more tangible than leadership. Monty is probably better in the passing game. He's probably a better blocker physically as well as identifying who he needs to pick up.

I would also suggest, although admittedly do not know this to be true, that Herbert is more likely to freelance rather than follow his reads. As I understand it, even if it leads to positive results not running the play as called can drive coaches nuts.

Any one have tackle for loss statistics?

They said it but it could be coachspeak also. The coaches need to worry more about Fields than the RBs.
 

Khalil Herbert rushed 12 times for 62 yards in the Bears' Week 7 win over the Patriots, adding a 25-yard touchdown catch on two targets.​

David Montgomery out-carried Herbert 15-12, but both backs produced 62 yards. Montgomery scored the goal-line touchdown, but Herbert did his damage with a catch-and-run touchdown to give the Bears a 17-14 lead they'd never look back from. Herbert has been great on limited work with Montgomery healthy this season and is starting to earn more and more reps each week. He's still more of a FLEX play with Montgomery the 1A in Chicago. The Bears go to Dallas in Week 8.

Coach Matt Eberflus said the Bears "will continue" to get Khalil Herbert more involved on offense.​

David Montgomery had been playing well over 70% of the snaps when healthy, but with both backs healthy this past Monday night against the Patriots, Montgomery's snap share dipped to 56% with Herbert's rising to 41% in the win. Montgomery narrowly edged Herbert out in combined carries and targets 15-14, but both backs found the end zone. Herbert is averaging a crisp 6.2 YPC on 75 totes this season and is putting himself on the RB3/FLEX map with Montgomery dropping to back-end RB2 status.

wasn't a workhorse in college, maybe they decide he's not the guy, 6th round draft capital, et al

(I don't know what else he has to do....every time Monty has been hurt he's been a stud in spot starts....this year he is tearing it up almost every week)

you would think they would invest in WRs and other need areas first though, right?

OK, Monty is better at pass pro.

Last two weeks were especially impressive to me; NE was allowing 28th (5th fewest) in PPR FF points allowed to RB, Dallas 32nd. He's matchup proof rn.

Still an rbbc at best so it's hard to continue to hope he continues with the ultra efficient performances, but dude is maximising his opportunities.

David Montgomery played 68% of Chicago's offensive snaps today. Khalil Herbert was just under 30%. Likely due to script, that's a week-over-week increase for Montgomery: he was at a 56% snap rate last week.

so much for taking a bigger bite of the apple. I guess Fields will be doing all the rushing going forward....
 
Khalil Herbert rushed seven times for 23 yards in Chicago's Week 9 loss to Miami.

There'll be weeks like this as long as Herbert is on the short side of Chicago's running back platoon, but Herbert looked absolutely fine in his small sample of carries. A tasty matchup with Detroit's porous run defense looms and Herbert will at the very least be on the FLEX line for it. There will be upside in Chicago's run offense next week.

Khalil Herbert (hip) has been ruled out for the remainder of Week 10 against the Bears.​

Herbert rushed 10 times for 57 yards, out carrying David Montgomery, who had nine carries for 37 yards. Herbert looked like the Bears' best back again this week, but his health could stall any momentum in securing a larger piece of the Bears' backfield. If Herbert were to miss Week 11, Montgomery would be a strong start against the Falcons.

Yeah, that and Herbert isn't irreplaceable enough to not be a kick returner. For some guys, that's all they do. But in my opinion -- and this is only my opinion -- you don't want guys who are valuable to you in other ways returning kicks.

I hate seeing it. Too many guys getting creamed and getting their knees taken out at high speeds to be comfortable watching a guy you roster in fantasy return kicks.
