RB Kyle Monangai, CHI (2 Viewers)

My 12 team league has 21 roster spots
Are waivers have nothing left,I know that feeling..
The Bears running game is one I avoided completely this year after owning Swift last year.. and think door is open for Monagia to take over if Swift as rb1on the Bears. It just might take half the season before the coaches make the change.

I think people are underestimating the hold Swift has on the starting RB job.

I just traded for Monongai because I roster Swift and if he is injured and misses time I believe Monongai will see the biggest bump in workload. It's also entirely possible his role doesn't change and Roschon takes over for Swift.

But the idea that Swift will be sidelined doesn't track with this entire off season. Spending a 7th on a slow RB is the only move the Bears made in the backfield. Johnson knows Swift well, if he was not convinced he could handle the job he would have made at least one more move. Then again Devin Singletary was in a similar spot last year so, it wouldn't be entirely unprecedented.

I figure Rachaad White would be a similar example. When Tucker could barely get a snap as a rookie, I concluded, they are obsessed with Rachaad, no one is bumping him. Then some fourth-rounder with meh-surables showed up.
IDK I don't view Rachaad similarly, I could be wrong about this but I think Todd Bowles is a little hands off with the offense and, if his new OC wanted a new RB he was going to get it.

I also never thought Rachaad had a hammerlock on the offense. He was drafted under Leftwich as OC, survived Canales and got supplanted under Coen. Daboll and Johnson had much longer histories with Devin (drafted under Dabol and three seasons together), and Swift (not drafted under Campbell/Johnson but played two years together in Det).

But, it's probably splitting hairs. It could happen, I just don't consider it very likely barring injury.

Off topic, but White would look damn good in KC right now.

So would Achane ..

You know who would look great in KC right now?

BILL BRASKY!!!

Redraft only: anyone picking him up to gamble on the post bye rookie bump? Swift looks bad. Ben Johnson already knows this from Detroit. Any other narratives? I can drop Tuten for him in one league. In another just a second defense. Just haven’t seen much. I watched his touches this season and he does not wow me at all, however. But what do I know.

He's still a lotto ticket. Whether you'd be better off with him or Tuten depends on how you rank your lotto tickets imo. Tutens been more productive per touch; Monangai has more fragile #1 ahead of him.

Kicked to the curb this morning.

I think the bolded would be a huge mistake.

The problem with your narrative is if Ben Johnson thought Swift sucked and because, as you say, he knew it already then why on earth would he ignore the position in FA, wait to round 7 to draft a RB and do nothing the first 4 weeks of the year but load up Swift?

I think Kyle should be on a roster in most leagues, I've picked him up in a few he's been dropped, but I would not be able to say with any confidence he's going to overtake Swift anytime soon. Not impossible, not a "no chance" thing, just seems doubtful to me. Bears lack of urgency to address the RB position since Ben Johnson got the job is a little puzzling, but again if anything that's an indicator that he does not view Swift in the negative light you think he does.

But the main thing is, don't cut Tuten. I think you asked this in another thread as well. His playing time has been limited but his flashes have been ultra impressive and when he's finally able to shed the no-contact orange jersey for his hurt shoulder at practice I think his usage will tick up. Not overtaking ETN, but possibly enough for some flex value and he's I think he's absolutely smash if ETN went out. Could argue he's the best handcuff in the league right now.

I agree, don’t cut Tuten for Monangai. I’m not sure Monangai is rosterable.

D'Andre Swift was added to Thursday's injury report.

Not sure how this pans out for this week, but Kyle Monangai was a frequently-mentioned preseason darling as someone who could possibly take over the Chicago backfield if Swift faltered. On the heels of a very good performance by Swift last Monday night, he was trending towards obscurity, but this opens the door. Swift's availability is key, but if he gets his chance and if he does well (big ifs) there may be opportunity ahead.

Swift is saying he will play. I picked him up for laughs. Now probably drop again before kickoffs.

He looks really good today. He's now on the FLEX radar

Swift has looked good as well. I am not sure how often the Bears are going run for 220 yards and pretty much complete dominate a game. He is definitely an essential handcuff, but no way can you trust him in a flex spot unless your league has a deep starting lineup and three flex spots.

Head coach Ben Johnson had a two-man backfield in Detroit where both running backs were fantasy-relevant, and it’s starting to look like this Bears duo could do the same thing.

And both those running backs are better than Swift and the best offensive line in the league. The Bears don't have that yet, it took time.

Have to imagine part of that is not wanting to overwork Swift. From Ben's experience with Swift in Detroit, he probably realizes that Swift is explosive with a reasonable work load, but shouldn't be a regular 20-25 touch guy.

And it has been a good thing for Swift. Since their bye he has been killing it.

He feels like someone we will all bid $25+ for and he will go back to getting 8 touches a game. This seems like it was very game script dependent.
You can make decisions based on your "feelings" or based on reality. I choose reality
This sounds a little combative. What's the reality? That Monangai got twice as many touches, this week, than any other week before that? That he produced 4X his standard yardage total than any other week? That Caleb had his single lowest passing yardage total this season in this game? That the Bears ran it more this game than any other this season? So is this the outlier or the new "reality"?

Or is it just Caleb having his worst game this season, and the coach just taking the air out of the football in a very winnable game?

Both things can be true.
He may go back to limited touches, but it still might be worth a big FA bid to find out.

Heading into Week 8, it's getting very close to "use it or lose it" time for FA money.

Maybe he goes back to limited touches, or maybe the rookie is finally ready to help Ben Johnson do what he loves most, run the ball down your throat with a 2-headed monster backfield.

I don't know the answer. If I did, this would all be very boring.
