This is a bit of a tangent for this thread, but here is my view of the Chargers RBs.
If all get/stay healthy until final roster cuts, I think the Chargers will keep 4 RBs and FB Matlock on the final roster. Obviously Harris and Hampton are locks.
IMO Haskins is very close to a lock because he was a core special teams player last season, and a good one. That said, he would be RB4 on the offense depth chart.
That leaves Vidal, Sanders, and Hines battling for the RB3 spot and the first 2 practice squad RB spots. Before they signed Hines, I was expecting Sanders to win that job.
If Hines is fully recovered and hasn't lost a step, I could see him getting the spot, although Roman's offense does not value/feature a third down back, which would normally be a role Hines might be well suited for. Last season, 5 Chargers RBs (including FB) combined for just 56 targets and 47/298/2 receiving in the regular season. That's not much, although it is also true that Hines is a better receiver than any of those RBs.
Patterson is a camp body, and probably won't even make the practice squad, since two of Vidal, Sanders, and Hines will be ahead of him for that.
Back to RB3, that player will not carry much value if Harris and Hampton are healthy. Last season, the Chargers carried just 3 active RBs plus the FB in each game, and Haskins was always active for special teams. If they follow that pattern again, RB3 will normally be inactive.
One other possibility is that Hines could beat out WR Davis for the KR/PR role, leading the Chargers to keep 5 RBs and 1 fewer WR on the final roster. In that scenario, 4 RBs would be active on gamedays, and Hines would obviously be one of them since he would be handling returns. Maybe in that scenario, he could also get snaps on offense, but hard to see that amounting to much.
