RB Najee Harris, LAC (6 Viewers)

Eyes heal quickly. My niece ran into the lit end of her dad's cigarette like 15 years ago when she was 3 and it looked messed up but was fine in like 4 weeks.

Verdict- most likely nothingburger but lots of great jokes.
You are most likely right. I am no optometrist, but I would think a lot depends on that nature of the injury.
I would have thought there would be more specific information about the injury. It seems to be very vague, or I may have just missed it.
Nope. Just the info that's been reported. Maybe all is well, maybe not.
What is the NFL required to report? There’s the HIPPA considerations, but I don’t know how much that applies to NFL players. Other injuries are fully reported.

Good question. If it is something like a detached retina, does the team have any obligation to report it this time of the year? I doubt it. We are nearly two weeks removed from the incident. If Harris is still suffering the effects, it seems more serious than just a nothing burger injury. 🤷

I suppose the question is when is the NFL required to report the details.

It's my understanding that NFL teams have zero mandatory requirements in reporting off season injuries. So why would they? Why would a player?

Zeus Brown has his career effectively ended by a bean bag to the eye, and it wasn't even on fire.

This is exactly what I am talking about. Not a single report on actually what is going on with his eye, but folks saying eyes heal quickly. Would anyone be willing to bet their house that Najee's eye is going to be back to normal before week 1? The fact is we have no idea what's really going on. He could be one-eyed Willy for all we know. Until I hear different, I choose to view him as a one-eyed Willy.

To me Hortiz saying one of their staff members gets updates from Najee's docs at Stanford after every appointment and his stay on the NFI list should be very short was what I qualify as a report. Not sure if you heard that or not.

It should be noted the Chargers had not actually seen Najee in person when he made those comments yesterday. But he's there today and Harbaugh said he's in meetings and stuff.

Kris Rhim

Jim Harbaugh said Najee Harris is healing and doing everything he can to get back on the field. Harbaugh said he doesn’t know if Harris will be back for training camp
I was sure Najee was the value pick over Omarion, but as each day passes, I can't stop the feeling that Najee's eye is really bad. Anyone got any videos of him at the eye doctor?

So much conflicting information and lack of information here. I've heard reports that it's nothing, reports he was in the hospital for a week and a half after the incident. It's so weird.

DB Bobby Dillon played his entire career with a glass eye. He's tied for 26th in all time INT's
TE Fred Arbanas lost sight in 1 eye between the 1964-1965 seasons, but managed to play 6 more years
WR Wesley Walker was legally blind in 1 eye and had a full 13 year career
WR Percy Harvin was also blind in 1 eye and was a 1st round pick

I wonder if there's ever been a player blind in 2 eyes?

Anthony Richardson. No arms either.

The Venus De Milo of QBs.

I'll believe it when I see it.
I see what you did here

Gotta admit, seeing them bring in another running back is just a little bit ominous.
I see what you did there. That's just wrong! 🫣
My lawyers will be in touch.
;)
Najee just got kicked out of his peripheral vision club. He didn't see that one coming!
I’m going to turn a blind eye to these malicious comments.

Now he’s getting biblical on us. All like, “an eye for an eye” and stuff.

They say in the land of the blind, the man with 1 eye is king. Someone should ask Najee if that’s true. :oldunsure:

I believe they have 7 RB's right now!

  1. Najee Harris – U/PIT (currently injured)
  2. Omarion Hampton – 2025 first-round pick
  3. Hassan Haskins – Waiver claim from Tennessee
  4. Kimani Vidal – 2024 sixth-round pick
  5. Jaret Patterson – Signed off 49ers practice squad
  6. Raheim Sanders – Undrafted rookie
  7. Nyheim Hines – Veteran free-agent signing
Obviously not all of them will make it through cuts, but that is a lot of bodies

Hampton is going to get 500 touches!

Years ago, I had to have a quick "surgery" to have something dislodged from my eye.

A few years back, my son had lens replacement eye surgery.

After each, they said it would be "this long" til fully healed. Both of us said we felt great and eyes worked well. At the doc, ya lean forward and the doc uses his contraption to truly tell if it's healed 💯. We were both surprised we weren't all healed at the timeline they said.

Nowadays they schedule many surgeries on a specific day so we met others in the waiting room. Some were healed but most were told "give it another week" just like my son.

I don't think their heal dates are as concrete as we take them with other injuries

The majority of those guys sure look like future STers/camp bodies to me. How many of those guys are in serious competition for meaningful touches?

I doubt most of them are, but having so many camp bodies does raise questions about how truthful they are being about Najee's eye. If he is to miss time or his effectiveness impacted, the Chargers are quite thin after Hampton since they let both Gus Edward's and Dobbins go. None of those guys left I'd be confident in giving actual in-game touches.

That’s a good point, but conversely should we really be that worried when those are the names on the list after Hampton and there isn’t a RB added that has s track record of even moderate success as a NFL runner? If they thought Harris’ situation was more severe, wouldn’t they want a stronger backup to Hampton’s default assumption of RB1?

It's days before training camp, who is there left to bring in? Maybe Gus Edward's again is the best option but according to the FA trackers here are the remaining free agent RB'S out there: D'onta foreman, Mike Boone, Hasty, Abdullah? Not a lot of options this late in the game until cuts start happening.

This is a bit of a tangent for this thread, but here is my view of the Chargers RBs.

If all get/stay healthy until final roster cuts, I think the Chargers will keep 4 RBs and FB Matlock on the final roster. Obviously Harris and Hampton are locks.

IMO Haskins is very close to a lock because he was a core special teams player last season, and a good one. That said, he would be RB4 on the offense depth chart.

That leaves Vidal, Sanders, and Hines battling for the RB3 spot and the first 2 practice squad RB spots. Before they signed Hines, I was expecting Sanders to win that job.

If Hines is fully recovered and hasn't lost a step, I could see him getting the spot, although Roman's offense does not value/feature a third down back, which would normally be a role Hines might be well suited for. Last season, 5 Chargers RBs (including FB) combined for just 56 targets and 47/298/2 receiving in the regular season. That's not much, although it is also true that Hines is a better receiver than any of those RBs.

Patterson is a camp body, and probably won't even make the practice squad, since two of Vidal, Sanders, and Hines will be ahead of him for that.

Back to RB3, that player will not carry much value if Harris and Hampton are healthy. Last season, the Chargers carried just 3 active RBs plus the FB in each game, and Haskins was always active for special teams. If they follow that pattern again, RB3 will normally be inactive.

One other possibility is that Hines could beat out WR Davis for the KR/PR role, leading the Chargers to keep 5 RBs and 1 fewer WR on the final roster. In that scenario, 4 RBs would be active on gamedays, and Hines would obviously be one of them since he would be handling returns. Maybe in that scenario, he could also get snaps on offense, but hard to see that amounting to much.

Any update on his eye?
I did find this. Could be the first picture we've seen of him.
Then there is this one.
Dammit. I clicked on it. Ha ha
