RB TreVeyon Henderson, NE (5 Viewers)

I benched AJ Brown for Henderson.

According to the “experts,” Brown had the #1 most difficult matchup, and has been a dud vs pushovers. No reason to think this week would be any better. Figured the Pats would be up big and this would be the perfect game to give him opportunities, including garbage time.

Nope. Despite playing this stupid game for 30 years, I’m still an idiot.
Yea ... this ones on you brother. I started Henderson today, but only over the likes of Travis Hunter (oof) and Tre Tucker. You should know better than that though .. I don't care how "bad" AJ Brown has been, hes still been better than Henderson. Plus the ceiling/floor differential?

Next week is a new week, thankfully
Definitely on me. I was tempted by the notion of rolling the dice on the unknown vs what seemed to be a guaranteed dud. Would it have been shocking if AJ Brown went 4/37/0 in a tough matchup and Henderson went 8/32/1 in an ideal matchup?
No. But, I'd still 1000% take my chances on a dud game from AJ over a garbage time hope on Henderson.

I agree. I don’t see how anyone could start Henderson over Brown, or anyone similar, given his minuscule usage.
It was a jackass decision, plain and simple. Got tired of AJ boning me and went with a gut feeling based on nothing but matchups.
Been there and done that…picked up Geno and started him due to match up and expert opinions. Yeah, I lost that week due to this move.

I think he will hit a ton of waiver wires this week in redraft with all of the teams on bye.
Probably. Not me though. Thankfully, I can afford to hold him (redraft).

It’s really bad right now. But there’s still a lot of football ahead, and he’s supposedly a very explosive RB.

You would’ve liked to have seen something by now though …

I’m holding as well, but yeah it’s looking very bleak

Same here. Will continue to hold. It’s to a point I don’t want someone else to pick him then he blows up. Don’t need that salt on my wounds.

Like I said, in hindsight, it was a jackass move. Then again, if Brown had another 4/37/0 game in a tough matchup, and Henderson went 8/32/1 in a great matchup, the decision would’ve seemed sensible. And as we all know, that could’ve very well happened. But it didn’t, so for this week, I’m a jackass. Next week a similar decision will seem prescient.

… I already told you that you’re not an idiot. Do I need to tell you you’re also not a jackass?

Live and learn. We are all dumb, most of the time.

Okay, nothing can be done about it now so, what did we learn?
what I'll take from this.. only real life first round guys have high round capital from a fantasy perspective. The players drafted day 2 and 3 can have value, can play themselves into position but they don't merit fantasy draft capital due to how their teams likely view them.

And I mean, coaching matters, that alarm was sounded preseason,

He was a deadly 3rd round pick, if you got him 5/6th your'e probably surviving

Hindsight is always 20/20. All we can do is set our lineups with the information that we have. Now we know that Henderson is a non-factor and we can’t use him until he proves us wrong.

This is the point in the season you would expect to see him trending up but he seems to be trending down. If gets dropped, I will stash him for a bit but this looks extremely bad for short term and long term value. If I took him in dynasty, I would be very skeptical about what I have now.
The only weird thing to me is the Gibson injury. That absolutely should have resulted in a bump in usage. And it was like, the opposite.

Also, I know no one wants to admit this, but Rhamondre Stevenson is a very solid football player when he’s not putting the ball on the ground.

I think the proliferation of fantasy content over the last couple years has led to people chasing rookies up the board a lot more than even 3 years ago. It’s easy to write articles about a rookie and with no priors of them in the NFL, writers have a blank slate to paint any narrative they want. Couple that with the abnormal anoint of breakouts last year (Bowers, Bucky, Daniels, BTJ) and rookies were being overdrafted this year.

This and we saw a potential Bucky during the preseason. This kid was electric and the fact he was a high second round pick. That and we also saw what he did at Ohio State. It’s ok to take a L sometimes.

He's been terrible this year. Look at his game logs. 2 decent games. One against the Dolphins and this week against the Titans. Titans are 29th against the run and the Dolphins are dead assssssssss last. The great Rico Dowdle had 200 yards against the Dolphins on over 9 YPC. That's how bad they are. He's averaged 2 yards or less in 3 games this year and those were against the Raiders, Bills and Saints.

He hasn’t been “terrible”. When he’s had touches, he’s done well. The games he’s done poorly, he was limited in his touches. That’s sort of the case with all RBs.

He's had 3 games of more than 10 touches. 1 of them was a stellar 13 carries for 18 yards against the Saints. That 1.4 YPC if my math is correct. 3.6 for the year and 3 fumbles. That's pretty terrible. The guy hasn't been good since 2022. I was very high on him after that season but downhill every year since.

Fortunately for the Patriots, their schedule is incredibly soft this year, so Vrabel can get away with using this JAG as his starter and get away it because he has an amazing young QB.

Think this dream is over.

Vrabel never punished Stevenson for his fumbling and gave him every chance to earn back his trust. And boy did he.

This isn't a 1a and 1b situation.

He may have his moments, but I doubt anyone will be able to predict them.

Was actually trying to buy him 2-3 weeks ago. Now looking back at what I was offering...bullet dodged.

Well, that doesn't tell the whole story now does it? He's also averaging over 10 yd per reception and 4.8 yd per touch.

He's by no means elite but, he's more than serviceable. If Henderson wants the job I think the opportunity exists. He just needs to go get it.

Clearly the Pats coaches see something some of us don’t, because Hendo isn’t getting the opportunity to take it.
I believe that's a philosophical belief of McDaniels and Vrable. Rookies wait their turn (barring massive positional need, e.g. Campbell) and vets get first shot (and second shot, third shot, multiple fumbles etc).

These guys would have sat a rookie Randy Moss.

But, it's working for them this year so, I don't expect much to change unless Treveyon manages to make them rethink with his limited touches.

Think about rookie Kenneth walker as an example. He was also a second round pick and was coming off a foal walker award. The incumbent in Seattle was Rachaad penny who had a great finish to the prior year but had never strung together a full season as a starter. IIRC he was drafted in the 100-110 range where as Henderson ended up being in the 40s.
