I still don't understand why Argo seems to get so much grief for historical accuracy when so many other films don't.
I'm ok with artistic license. The problem here is that the added drama.... wasn't dramatic. They added nothing entertaining when they change the story so why change it?

Watched "Joe" last night. Can see why the critics loved it b/c the acting is really good. Especially the actual homeless guy they got to play the bum abusive father. The guy actually died two weeks after filming while back on the street. Worth a watch.

But my god what a depressing movie. (See chaka's spoiler box below for generalized mentions of some disturbing scenes)

Pro tip: don't rent this when your wife has promised : yes: It ain't gonna happen.

There's implied child prostitution, brutal death of a dog, numerous scenes of a 15 year old being

physically beaten, and incredibly disturbing scene where a homeless man is brutally beaten to death.

I'm thinking you should have put a lot of that in spoilers my friend.

Sorry, didn't think my notes of the disturbing scenes in joe gave anything away about the plot but I removed them. See chaka's post below it with spoiler box.

Just watched Grand Budapest- 9/10 - really good film. Funny, entertaining the entire way, a little suspense, good cinematics. Great cast.

I'll say it...I liked Grudge Match. Vintage Bobby D., imo. He was into the role. They could have done away with all of the Kim Bassinger parts and it would have been a lot better. I'd also be interested in an article about the filming of the fight scene. There was some wacky stuff going on there. I likied it though. 3/5

I really liked this one too. Great pacing and clever dialogue. Much better than Moonrise Kingdom which I just found boring.

Is it the usual Wes Anderson fare? If so, i will pass. Not a fan of Mr. Anderson
It's funny that he is such a polarizing director. I liked his first three films quite a bit (Bottle Rocket, Rushmore & The Royal Tennenbaums) but not much since them (Mr. Fox was okay I guess). Grand Budapest is his best work since Rushmore, it might be my favorite film of his overall.

The Long Hot Summer

A generic love story with great chemistry between Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. What makes the film distinctive is the rotund Orson Welles, and his mumbling, stumbling, way-over-the-top performance. He unloads in every single scene. It is almost parody.

Dammit, I was thinking that I could keep passing this one by. They look fantastic, but I haven't liked any of his past 4 movies or so. I keep getting suckered in to watching his movies then it is this  for 100mins for me. Keep hearing similar things about Budapest though - much better than his recent work.

Haven't been able to watch many new ones since I work most of my hours on the weekend. Noticed that we got Raid 2 a week early, so I can watch that on my days off this week. :pantstighten:

Revisited Raid: Redemption last night since I heard part 2 takes place 15-20mins after the first one. Yeah, I love this damn movie. Who needs plot when a movie kicks this much ###? I would say that it has to be one of the best action movies of the last decade or so. I am a little apprehensive about the run time on Raid 2, but hopefully it is doesn't suffer from sequelitis.

I thought Rushmore was obscenely overrated. Moonrise Kingdon was the first film he made that I really liked. I'm looking forward to watching Grand Budapest Hotel.

Based on the polarizing "I love it, I didn't like it" posts here I gave "The Worlds End" a shot last night..

who can I talk to about getting that last hour back???

Enjoyed the first hour.. Was looking at the clock waiting for it to end after the first Bathroom fight... at a point the only reason I stayed with it was to see how they ended it..

at best a 2 1/2 out of 5 for me..

Transformers: Age of Extinction

Too long and too much of a mess. Started out good but then they

killed off Lucas (played by TJ Miller of Cloverfield). He was really funny and kept the movie going
and then became some decent robot fighting but other CGI was bad.

My daughter pointed out they showed a trailer for Fury (starring Shia LaBeouf) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (starring Megan Fox) before our showing

I never complain about people's taste in comedy especially. I laughed just about the entire time. To each his own.

Except for Castaway. That movie sucked and people that like it need to be pointed at like the fat kid on the small bus.

Like I said.. I enjoyed the first half.. It was after the bathroom fight that, IMO, it went completely downhill. before that point there were many points where I was :lmao: .. But from that fight scene on it just "lost it's way".

Muscle Shoals, excellent music documentary (avail streaming).

Not as well known a regional sound perhaps as Chicago (Chess), Detroit (Motown) and Memphis (Stax), but put out a huge number of hits completely out of proportion to what is just a tiny dot on the map in Alabama, from Aretha Franklin's breakthrough to Lynard Skynard (including I think parts of Exile on Main Street and/or Sticky Fingers by the Stones), much by Fame Studios and later by an offshoot led by their most famous rhythm section, the Swampers, who were a huge part of that signature sound, variously described as funky and greasy.

"Let The Right One In"

Even with the english subtitles it did not take away my enjoyment of this movie. It's a little different take on the vampire genre.

The little kids gave great acting performances as well.

You're a horrible person.

"Let Me In" - the American version is pretty good. I didn't know anything about it and was thrilled by it. Haven't watched "Let the Right One In" although I have it.

Transformers 4 =

The Fault in the Stars =

"Let The Right One In" is better. Much more atmospheric and creepy.

Tron - 5.5/10

The original. I've never watched it before. And never will again.

That was a bad movie.
After all these years, I still don't have a peg on your ratings. 5.5/10 = bad movie? How ####ty does something have to be to get a 2 or 3? May I have an example of a 3/10 movie for you?

Still better than the reboot.
Oh HELL no. The reboot was a lot of fun.

What is WRONG with you? :hot:
Nah it wasn't a lot of fun, it was really, really terrible but it was presented in a shiny package.

And I am a guy who is generally very forgiving of film stupidity if they at least entertain and the reboot didn't.

A 2 or 3 has to be insultingly bad or grotesque in some way. Tron doesn't get into that realm because I could tell they were trying for a semblance of a good move.

I'd give Shark Boy & Lava Girl a 3.

The only 1 I can think of off the top of my head would be The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, And Her Lover.
