i thought it was pretty funny. it was mostly for adults, i thought, but also felt fun. i imagine it is amazing to watch while high.

I liked this, and agree it had a lot geared just for adults. didn't think it was an all-timer, but enjoyed it.

I find it a bit odd to hear that people actively "hate" it. yeah, ok- overrated or not up to the hype... and just ok. but "hate"? I've seen some terrible, terrible movies that still don't elicit that kind of response from me.

I wonder if people who hated it see a lot of kid's movies. Because the LEGO Movie is better than almost all in that genre - by a huge margin.

For us it was one of the rare movies that kids and parents can truly enjoy, from 3 years old to 49. Lots of movies try to fit into that rare group, but very few are truly enjoyable for those on both ends of the age spectrum in my family.

Every Shrek movie did this as well. Lego movie makes me want to punch myself in the face. I purposfully went to sleep just so it would be over.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Unlike most of the really great kid's movies, instead of being geared to kids with things adults will enjoy, this movie was geared to adults with things kinds will enjoy and as such, as a kid's movie, I think it's only okay. And I have a 4 year old and 6 year old so I see plenty of them

Saw Birdman. It was o.k. Some really good acting, particularly by Keaton and Norton. But I don't know that in total its worthy of as much attention as it seems to be getting. There was one element of the plot that I thought probably could have been left out which would have made it a better film. Or maybe I just didn't get it.

I agree. Loved the acting but some of the plots and subplots could have been shortened or eliminated. It could be a great movie if tightened up a bit.

22 Jump Street.

I'm influenced by KarmaPolice's review, no doubt. But this was funny, topical, a bit meta, but the meta was way dialed back compared to other movies that are more self-conscious. I thoroughly enjoyed it and found humor in it. Suspend disbelief for a minute, and it's funny as heck. Better than the surprise of the first, IMO. Helps to have great writers and creators behind it. 7.5/10.

When thinking back of Animated Kids movies I liked better then Legos...

Incredibles and Monsters, Inc were tops on my list.. From 2000 to today I'd Throw in Shrek, Toy Story, Cars, Finding Nemo, UP, Lilo & Stitch

There are probably others.. All of those I listed I'd watch again in a heart beat..

Miyazaki is the Scorcese of kids/animation. Can't really miss with any of his (or at least any that I've seen).

They are a bit more complex thematically, IMO- and better suited for kids older than mine (3 & 7)... so I left them off my list intentionally. Looking forward to sharing them with my kids though- my son is ready. There's a local kids' film festival every year- feel like they're always showing a bunch of his... but did he just retire or die?

As long as we're talking kids' movies, I beg you all to show your kids Christmas Story. No, not the American film. It's the story of Santa made in Finland. Beautiful scenery, touching story, and just a great heartwarming tale.

I think that movie scarred me for life - in a good way. I saw it young, within a year or two of when it came out - quite the introduction to cartoons for adults, particularly Elinore.

.I guess it's just different strokes for different folks kinda thing cause every single movie you typed I disliked, (including cloudy with a chance of garbage) Toy Story 3 being the only one close to liking but the worst of the three. My kids don't even care for that one.

The fact that he lumped "Incredibles" in as movies he disliked.. When thinking back of Animated Kids movies I liked better then Legos...

Incredibles and Monsters, Inc were tops on my list.. From 2000 to today I'd Throw in Shrek, Toy Story, Cars, Finding Nemo, UP, Lilo & Stitch

There are probably others.. All of those I listed I'd watch again in a heart beat..

Legos.. like I said, barley made it through the first hour..

Incredibles was so boring. Characters had zero personality. Bolt is another movie I didn't care for.

Whiplash.

Solid if yet a bit underdeveloped. But the ending is so scintillating that it's hard not to walk out impressed.

Theater/sound-system really benefits this one.

Iron Giant might be my favorite kids' movie.

But most of the Pixar catalog is pretty great outside of the Cars franchise. Again- difficult for me to fathom actively disliking any of those.

There was an Italian movie from the 70s- their version of Fantasia, IIRC- called Allegro Non Troppo. I remember thinking it was amazing as a kid, but I wonder if it's held up at all.

Animated short- Bambi vs Godzilla.

So you're the other guy that saw Allegro Non Tropo? Since we're gettin' all obscure here, ever see Ralph Bakshi's amazing Wizards epic?

Iron Giant is the bomb.

saw Wizards in the theater for a friend's birthday party- totally forgot about that movie.

Bakshi also did the LoR animated thing, IIRC, right? lots of live-action background stuff that's been painted over?

Did he do Heavy Metal too?

He did do part 1 of the Lord of the Rings animated, relying heavily on Rotoscoping. He didn't do Heavy Metal.

i think he did it with "American Pop" too. A film that my parents also took my brother and I to as kids, btw.

I don't get the hate for the Lego movie. I thought it was one of the better kids movies to come out in the last few years. Great humor, good message, a little father-son interaction to make it a little misty, and while the animation didn't look great, I did admire the commitment to make everything Legos (even the water/showers). I had a blast with it, and have watched it several times now.

As far as most fun/popular in my house in the last decade, it is right up there with How To Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, Wreck-It Ralph, Toy Story 3, and the Incredibles. I loved Rango too, but that was more a me thing.

Watched LEGO Movie last night. Without the kids. Yeah, some of you are nucking futs. That movie is awesome. (It does help that I am the father and my son is the kid)

If you just want to check out mentally and relax...watched 22 Jump Street last night. It's a typical sequel, but it had it's moments.
