I'm not interested in starting a new thread, so I'm punching this in here.

"Comedians Getting Coffee in Cars" Jerry Seinfeld's project.

Each episode runs between 8-20 minutes. It's a fun and entertaining concept.

Anyone ever seen this? I had heard of it and saw parts of one a year ago and thought "meh".

Then I saw something online recently that got me to try it again, and glad I did.

I just streamed through the first two seasons - granted there are some parts of each episode that are a bit sluggish, but for the most part I enjoyed them all. (except the Michael Richards episode which to me was somewhat depressing).

Season 1:

Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks, Bob Einstein and Larry David episodes were good.

The Alec Baldwin episode was pretty funny.

Season 2:

They're all really good.

Seasons 3-5 yet to watch.

Excellent show.

Almost all the way through The Equalizer and finally, something good to report.

Denzel is just awesome in pretty much anything he does, huh?

Antoine Fuqua is a kickass director. Great movie. Need to finish the last half hour but it's a solid 8/10 for me.

Weird, I couldn't finish it.

Agreed the Equalizer seemed pretty vanilla,especially when compared to Training Day (which also had Fuqua and Denzil))

Love and Mercy A- Great Story Great Acting except for John Cusack He did a decent job but he looks nothing like Brian Wilson.


Paul Dano did a phenomenal job as young Brian Wilson and looked like him. Watching him put together "Pet Sounds" was an awesome scene

I had a hard time finishing this one. It felt like the story could have been told in a much shorter amount of time. Although I will admit the acting, especially Carell, was fantastic.

Very, very slow movie. Everything- the way they talked and walked and the pace of the movie. Nodded off a couple times during it.

It is pretty depressing. Wiig's character is particularly cringe-worthy pathetic to the extent it gets difficult to root for her. But I thought it was really well done with a good balance between comedy and emotion and the interactions between Hader and wiig had me believing they really were twins.

I'm also in the- more I think about Interstellar, the less I like it camp.

The Gold Rush - 7/10

Often talked about as one of the best movies of all time. Chaplin's favorite of his own works. I liked Great Dictator and Modern Times better. This was on par with City Lights.

He should have kept the original '25 ending in the '42 re-release.

I know but he was forcing the macho thing. Didn't work. It was like they put things in just to make him look macho where it wasn't needed.

Comedy Bang Bang

I've been tearing through their podcast archives for weeks now, so I thought I'd work my way through the three seasons on Netflix.

Hilarious.

Jurassic World - 3/5

Even as just a mindless popcorn flick it wasn't very enjoyable. You're really not missing much if you don't see this in theaters.

I don't think I've ever seen it- definitely looks like I should.

and it makes me realize that one of my favorite smaller movies, Barfly, essentially ripped it off, or at least riffed it off.

it's such a terrific film. Newman does some of his best work in it. the cast is really strong across the board with terrific character actors in it. finally, i'll say that it has a lot to say about winning, competing and how it can consume people.

The Hustler really is a great movie, and it's not just great because it's part of the canon or something one should like. It's great because it's empathic, tragic, brilliant and eminently watchable, even today.

eta* And I'd also like to see Barfly, which many of my friends recommend.

I've been saying that for so many years.

Factotum also very underrated. Just a hilarious tone throughout.

Factotum is boring. Barfly is awesome.

Paper Planes

While not a good movie by adult standards, this is great for the 5-7 age range before they know enough to realize how cheesy it is, especially if they like making paper planes. My 6 year old loved it.

Chappie

This is a Blomkamp movie through and through. He certainly knows how to put his stamp on his creations. Definitely had a District 9 feel to it in parts but just wasn't executed as well. I was entertained though even if it didn't necessarily tread any new ground.

Dumb and Dumber To - Shocked that I'm saying this but I really liked it. Not as good as the first but there are plenty of funny moments. I'm sure people are very critical of the performances, but I don't think Carrey held back, If you're a fan, I think you'll like it. If you can take him or leave him, you probably won't like it. But my wife is a big fan of his and hated this and went to bed halfway through. So who knows. I liked it. 3.5/5

I don't think it was as bad as you're saying. But there have been better recent war films. Letters From Iwo Jima would be an example.

Agree- silly, completely unrealistic ending that included an extra layer of cheese that put it over the top, pretty much ruining the movie. That being said, the movie was fairly stylish and engaging otherwise, which counts for something.

Yep - I posted earlier in thread how much surprisingly I enjoyed it.

When I think about it, it felt like a longer but more concise episode of Band of Brothers. And that's not a bad thing at all.

Other than the ending battle, (which was high energy and lots of action, however over the top ridiculous)....I loved this movie.

Watched Guardians of the Galaxy. Not much more you can ask of a movie. Won't ever be a "classic" for me, but no reason to rate it any less than 8/10.

I still think the ending killed this movie. So silly, especially:

They go out of their way at the beginning to show the realism of war as the newbie has to scrape a face off the inside of the tank. However, Brad Pitt takes 2 grenades in the tank and doesn't have a scratch? and of course Shia gets the one German willing to risk the lives of all the guys in his troop by letting him be at the end.

It had potential, but really missed the mark for me.
