I watched Fury recently. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it - nothing amazing or unique but highly entertaining throughout. I put it firmly in my top 5 most enjoyable movies from 2014, even though I am getting a bit tired of "gritty-hero" Brad Pitt.

Pretty much agree with this word for word.

I also liked Fury.

Watched Guardians of the Galaxy. Not much more you can ask of a movie. Won't ever be a "classic" for me, but no reason to rate it any less than 8/10.

I know that Guardians of the Galaxy is lightweight. But really, if you look at how many terrible, dull big budget movies that get released every year, Guardians deserves some credit.

I still think the ending killed this movie. So silly, especially:

They go out of their way at the beginning to show the realism of war as the newbie has to scrape a face off the inside of the tank. However, Brad Pitt takes 2 grenades in the tank and doesn't have a scratch? and of course Shia gets the one German willing to risk the lives of all the guys in his troop by letting him be at the end.

It had potential, but really missed the mark for me.

I can't think of a movie that's even close just for the tank battles alone.

As Above so Below - OK horror flick. It would have been more intense for me if they toned down the supernatural so there was some suspense. You could see the ending from a mile away due to the found footage style.

Many films start off well and limp to the finish. This actually started off mediocre but had a better second half. Overall it was in the average range.

I couldn't get past the Chinese lady's thick accent. Especially since her brother spoke perfect English. While she was the one working in the US for a hedge fund and he was working for the Chinese Government. Just makes no sense at all. She was easy on the eyes tho.

I'm about a half hour into this and totally agree with the "uncomfortable comedy / absurdly funny" call so far. Will finish it up this weekend, but can already tell it's worth recommending.

Not sure if I reviewed this yet or not .... but I thought it was mediocre most of the way, maybe a slight uptick at the end as it developed the story. Worth watching, though, since there's usually a ton of crap out too.

But even if I had, The movie just wasn't that good, disjointed, over the top enemies, and the acting was bad (Cooper was OK, though his accent was awful).

And in the middle of a very intense firefight, he decides to call his wife. That would be like Jim Bowie stopping fighting at the Alamo and writing a letter to his wife.

I just watched it and thought it was good, but not great.

i enjoyed this movie a lot...he was a guy who did his job regardless of how hard it was ...the inner conflicts were interesting...his need to protect was what fueled him ...such a sad ending for such a great soldier

Watched Sniper last night and enjoyed it as well. Some of the personal story in the beginning was a little cheesy but once they get into it, the rest is pretty solid. I had expected a little more but it was worth watching. 3/5

A Spanish movie available on Netflix. I enjoyed the performances (Daniel Bruhl was also good in Rush) - especially that of the little girl. She acts like Chloe Grace-Moretz and looks like Alyssa Milano. The movie didn't break any new ground but the mood and presentation were good.

Wife and daughter are out of town so I had a chance to see a bunch of movies:

Dope (9/10) - IMO this is a classic. Nothing really like it but it was kind of a black Superbad.

Spy (8/10) - absolutely hilarious. Even if you don't usually don't like Melissa McCarthy, she's likable in this. Just a really funny movie, best comedy of the year so far.

Ted 2 (7/10) - if you liked Ted you'll like Ted 2. A lot of funny scenes, but brought down by jokes meant to offend rather than be funny and too much focus on weed - it's a cheap laugh and used way too much in the movie. Also, #### you Seth for letting Beth sing again, thought the Walking Dead ended that ####.

Max (6/10) - didn't hate it but I wasn't the target audience (probably very popular with dog-owning Texas military families). Nice story and good family movie. Makes you want that dog.

I liked this one a lot.

However I do worry about how all the hardcore porn exposure will be effecting the young ones as they grow up.

John Wick

I was fully entertained and enjoyed the ride. And I'm going to go out on a limb and just say that I enjoy the Keanu Reeves experience. He is the MacDonalds of the movie industry. Not great cuisine, but it satisfies when you go for it, and when you are done you know it wasn't great and that you should do better, but life goes on.

The action scenes were fun. Campy enough not to be so stupid that I lost interest, and solid enough to be worth watching again. I would have loved more time in the hotel with the assassins rules and some intermingling there with Ian McShane and the rest of the group. That seems like it could end up being its own story.

Over the past week I had a chance to Catch a couple movies I thought were worth the 2 hours..

NightCrawler - I can understand how this wouldn't be for everyone.. But really enjoyed it from start to finish.. 4 out of 5

A Walk Among the Tombstones - Was pleasantly surprised by the "Depth" of the movie compared to his Taken action movies.. 4 out of 5.

Agree about Day. Thought the bosses were great, but didn't like the main 3. Thought the 2nd was a step down as well.
