Ron Dayne cut (1 Viewer)

I feel bad for the people who bought into the Dayne hype this offseason. Sounds like the turf toe injury really wrecked his chances though.
I guess it's ok to hang on to Dayne to see where he lands, but if it isn't good, he's one step closer to the WW in most leagues. Thank goodness I only have him in 1 league and I don't have to worry about cut downs in that league. Then again, I'm sure you could give a rats a-r-s-e about that.
This is all so very 2004. Game over man, game over.
I disagree. Dayne does have value. Much value? no. But there are several teams that could use him. I own him in no leagues, do not particularly like Daybe, nor wish to acquire him, but he would easily be the RB on several teams at the present ... and injuries will only make that moreso.
:wall: What does it take for you people to watch with your own eyes how guys run? Dayne rarely makes anyone miss, doesn't have great speed, and has very little power especially for a guy his size. He simply is NOT an NFL RB. Further I disagree with your comment as I don't think he is better than ANY starting RB right now.
I never said I think he is decent. And, where do I say that he is better than a starting RB? I just think that the NFL personnel guys will take a chance on him.
but he would easily be the RB on several teams at the present
Dayne isn't going to be THE RB on any team. This year, or next. The guy just isn't very good. Now if you meant "be A RB on several teams". Probably. He'll be a solid 3rd string RB for the rest of his career.
read the rest in context. the rest I wrote said he was better than some of the backup RBs on some of teams. I still say I do not think he is a good player, just that he has value. I will stand by that. Disagree? There was more than just this discussion between CalBear and I, the poster above just pulled this out.

Shanny never lies, if Shanny says Dayne is number 1 he will be number 1.
Dayne was number one when Shanny said he was. Here's what I think happened. Dayne did not win the number one job during training camp -- he won it during the June and July mini-camps. These mini-camps are non-contact.Dayne may be pretty impressive in non-contact work. He is pretty quick for a big guy, and has surprising speed. When nobody is hitting him, he may even make decisive cuts and get upfield aggressively. When the pads went on, he didn't look as good. Mike Bell looked better. (Dayne had a turf toe problem, but if that was the only problem he wouldn't have been cut.)Dayne did look pretty good in limited action last year. But it seems, from reading Cecil's training camp reports ( ), that he did not get up through the hole strongly as consistently every day in practice as Mike Bell did.The lesson to be learned here? Ron Dayne was viewed as a nice mid-round fantasy prospect because of his team situation. (There's a famous quote in someone's sig about his not being "Ron Dayne," but "Denver RB.") I think that June/July is too early to value somebody highly based on team situation. In late August it makes more sense, but in June and July too much can happen to upset a player's surrounding situation, so it's better to place more emphasis on talent at that point.

I never give up because I simply relayed that several NFL insiders have said that, if Ron Dayne is cut, there's a good chance he winds up in Houston?
If Houston needs a large, slow running back, they can get Antowain Smith back; he has at least shown the ability to be effective.
Tell that to the NFL insiders who have said that Houston and Miami would be interested in Dayne if he was cut.
