Ronnie Brown Recovery Going Well (1 Viewer)

(KFFL) "Armando Salguero, of The Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano said he thinks RB Ronnie Brown (knee) should be ready for training camp. "

Some will say the news is always good about recovery but that is not so. This is certainly promising news because if Brown is ready for training camp then his odds of being ready to play week 1 are much better than if he is still recovering during camp.

Being ready to play week 1 would amaze me, that would be 10 months after surgery. Are atheletes really recovering that quickly from ACL tears? I always thought the general rule was 12 months following ACL surgery and expect Ronnie to be on the PUP list to open the season.

10 months isn't unheard of. Coming from a PT- typically yes 12 months is standard, but with the aggressive rehab that the pros take, 10 is about as short as I would say is safely done. Now he won't be 100% in 10 months, but perhaps 85% and able to play in games. He may not be 100% until midway through the season. But that doesn't mean that he can't do certain things before hand. I could see him participating in the entire training camp, sitting out most of if not all of the preseason (maybe play one series in the final game) and be ready to start week 1. But it's not unheard of to be ready in 10 months. It's pushing it definately, and I feel for the guy going through that ridiculous of a rehab, but it's definately doable

Five years ago, you'd be correct. Today, not so much.Take a look at players in the past year or two with ACL injuries but came back virtually 100% the next season -- Carson Palmer, Javon Walker, Braylon Edwards, Deuce McAllister come to mind. Nowadays it's only the most serious ACL injuries that take the full 12-15 months or more.
